"Beautiful aunt!" The four-and-a-half-year-old girl screamed to call out the name of a grown woman she had met a few days ago at a party.
The figure of the woman pushing the grocery trolley turned to the caller. He felt familiar with the cute voice that called him a pretty aunt.
"Key?" That woman is Maya. He turned around as a little girl named Kei ran towards him.
"Beautiful aunt, shopping, huh?" ask Kei. He went to Maya's shopping cart and saw the contents, not finding what he was looking for, he asked again. "Where's the big grandpa, Auntie?"
"Oh, his grandpa's at home, baby." Maya replies. He took a look at Kei's appearance this afternoon, the girl was wearing a kindergarten uniform, and as usual her hair was tied in two, left-right.
"Who are you here with, son?" ask Maya. It is impossible right, from his school Kei came to the supermarket alone.
"Sama Oma" he answered.
"Where is the om?"
Kei pointed towards the fruit booth. "That's right there. Oma's picking fruit, Auntie."
"Let's go over there, I'll go find you." Maya.
"Yes, Aunt."
Maya leaves her shopping trolley for a moment, accompanying Kei to her grandmother's place. Unexpectedly, Kei clasped Maya's hand tightly, holding her.
"Geez!" call Kei.
Kei's grandmother, Maryam, looked over. He found the granddaughter along with a woman he knew the other day. They join warmly, just like mother and child.
"Yes, Maya?"
"Oma, I just met a pretty aunt there." Kei pointed at the direction where Maya's trolley was located.
"Good day, Miss Maryam." Maya greets friendly, not forgetting to smile.
"Jiang, May. Shopping too?" ask Miss Maryam.
"Yes, Mom. It just so happens that the needs at home have been thinned," he replied.
Kei took off Maya's hand and ran to the grandmother. "Oma, is the shopping still long? I'm hungry, Oma.." whine while tugging at Maryam's long headscarf.
"Yes.patience, baby. Moments later oma is done." Ms. Maryam took some fruit at random and put it in a trolley. "May, continue your shopping. After this we'll have lunch together, okay?" bring him.
"But Ma-"
"Tante, yes..." Kei pleading with his innocent face made Maya unable to resist. He did not want the adorable little girl to be sad.
"All right."
Maya continues her activities. When he was going to pay, Maryam immediately prevented him. A debit card was handed over to the cashier to pay for their groceries.
When she gets outside, Maya hands some red money to Maryam's mom.
"Save your money, May!" reject the middle-aged woman.
"But, Mum..." Maya feels bad.
"I'm iklhas, May."
Hearing that, Maya fell silent. Looks like Miss Maryam is the type of person who is hard to resist her will.
"Thank you, Mom."
.......
Fadhil was watching the news broadcast on television when his mother came to bring him a cup of coffee.
"Thank you, Mom." The man never forgot to thank him for the service that his beloved woman had given him.
"Is Kei asleep?" ask Miss Maryam. He glanced at the wall clock that had shown him at nine o'clock in the night.
"Already, Mom. Before going to bed he told me that this afternoon he met a beautiful aunt. Is that true, Mom?" fadhil asked after sipping a little hot coffee made by his mother.
"Yes, we met while shopping at the same supermarket." Maryam leaned her back against the sofa. His old body felt a little tired.
"Oh, I think Kei was just bragging because since meeting Maya a few days ago, he kept talking about his beautiful aunt" Fadhil said.
"Your daughter seems to like Maya a lot."
"Yes." Yeah." That was the only response Fadhil gave. Actually, the man has been very sorry what is currently being thought of the mother. It's not far from a match. The intention of his mother who wanted to match him with Maya was clearly read.
"Mother, Maya's fit to be-"
"Mom. I don't need a wife. Enough with my mother's presence and Kei's already made me feel complete and happy" Fadhil argued, cutting off his mother's words.
Maya smiled wryly. "Mother didn't say you wanted to make Maya your wife."
"Then?" Fadhil's forehead was wrinkled confused.
"Mother said that Maya was fit to be Kei's mother."
Fadhil breathed a tired breath. "That's the same, Mom. If Maya wants to be Kei's mother, she will automatically have to marry me and be my wife."
"That's you know, so will ya?" Maryam did not give up. In fact, he was tired enough to persuade even force Fadhil to remarry, but he did not want to see his son become a widower for life. What if later he was called the almighty to follow the husband who first came home, surely Fadhil and Kei will be lonely because they will stay alone.
"Mom, we just got to know Maya, but why are you so sure you're gonna set me up with her? Do you know very well what a woman's personality is?" ask Fadhil not thinking. Not that he wanted to judge the Maya's past which could be said to be bad, but Fadhil just wanted to know his mother's view of Maya so that he had strong belief to match them.
"Come, Son. I know that Maya has a bad past. He had a child out of wedlock, but he also went to jail for being involved in a case of mistreatment of the wife of his affair, but I see if now he has converted."
Fadhil was shocked to hear the mother's words. "So you know everything?"
"Yes, I can't be rash to choose a future wife for you and a future mother for Kei. I asked people to investigate."
"Then, are you sure you're right that she's changed?" tanya Fadhil.
"Yes, you know what? Maya has a motherly nature, that's what mom likes about her. While eating at the restaurant earlier this afternoon, Kei whines for Maya to feed him and yes... Maya painstakingly and tenderly feeds your daughter a meal. During Kei's journey home, she smiled incessantly, and when she answered that she was so happy that she had eaten Maya today, your daughter missed the figure of a mother she never got."
Fadhil. Has he been selfish in ignoring his daughter's wishes?
"Son, everyone must have a past, but more important now is how that person is going through the present and the future. Don't you forget about your past?" Miss Maryam reminded.
Fadhil jerks. His mother reminded him of a mistake many years ago that he was eager to forget.
"Alright, Mom. I'll think about it."
Fadhil relented, not wanting to upset his mother for the umpteenth time.
"Thank you, son." Miss Maryam rubbed her son's head, baby.
