Many people there felt that this was divine punishment for their cruel boycott. Then, in the tenth month of Muharram, five non-Muslims in Makkah who opposed the boycott gathered. They decided they would do something to help end the siege.
This was done because not all the Quraysh agreed to the treaty. Among the figures who counter the deal is Hisham bin ‘Amru from the tribe of Bani ‘Amir bin Lu-ay. He was the one who secretly supplied food to the Bani Hashim.
One time Hisham met Zuhair bin Abi Umayyah al-Makhzumiy who was the son of ‘Atikah bint ‘Abdul Mutthalib, to invite him to make an attempt to cancel the boycott. He also met Muth’im bin ‘Adiy who agreed on that, but he asked for additional people, so Hisham met Abu al-Bukhturiy bin Hisham. He asked for additional people, so Hisham met Zam’ah bin al-Aswad bin al-Mutthalib bin Asad and asked him to also cancel the boycott. They all agreed to gather tomorrow at the door of Hujun and promised to cancel the shahifah.
In the morning, they went to the club. Zuhair came dressed in oversized clothes and went around the ka’bah seven times and then faced the audience and said, “Wahai of the people of Mecca! Do we have the heart to enjoy food and to wear clothes while the children of Hashim perish; no one will sell to them and no one will buy from them? By Allah! I will not sit until the shahifah who has severed the womb and this shalim is torn!”.
Abu Jahl who was in the corner of the mosque said, “By Allah! you have lied! Don't do that!”.
Then Zam’ah bin al-Aswad cut it, ”For Allah's sake! you are the most liar! We were never willing to write it when it was written back then”.
After that, Abu al-Bukhturiy chimed in, “True what Zam’ah said, we never willingly agreed to what has been written and never agreed to it”.
Next, it was al-Muth’im's turn to add: “They are both true and it's really the person who said other than that who lied. We departed to Allah from the shahifah and what was written in it”.
It is also followed by Hisham bin ‘Amru who chimed in like that as well.
Abu Jahl then said with annoyance, ”This business has been decided in a place other than this on the night of his deliberation back then!”
Abu Talib was sitting in the corner of the Grand Mosque. He came to that place on the basis of the Prophet's notification ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ In it.
The people of Quraysh said to him, “Then you have done right”.
What Abu Talib said was heard by the people and also Abu Jahl and Makkah leaders also agreed to the deal. Then Al-Muth’im got up to the charter and was ready to tear it apart.
He saw that the termites had eaten its contents, except for the fragment of the inscription “Bismika Allahuma” (with your asthma O Allah), and every part of the word “Allah” was also inedible to termites.
Indeed, the polytheists have seen a great sign as part of the prophetic signs of He ,
وَاِنْ يَّرَوْا اٰيَةً يُّعْرِضُوْا وَيَقُوْلُوْا سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ
“And if they (the polytheists) see a sign (miracle), they turn and say, “(This is) continuous magic.”(QS. Pammel:2)
They turn away from this verse, denying the greatness of Allah ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ and their unbelief is becoming more and more.
The boycott ended and the Muslims returned to their homes in Mecca. After this long and challenging ordeal, some came back with very poor health. These included the wife of the Prophet Khadijah ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ and his uncle Abu Thalib ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ 80. They both died shortly after the siege ended.
Thus the story of the boycott of the Prophet Muhammad ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ Muslims in Mecca. May this be a lesson to all of us.
