Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso tells the story of a talented pianist named Kousei Arima.

Very talented Kousei often won various competitions. At the age of 11, Kousei decided not to play the piano anymore. 

He no longer feels he has a purpose. He played piano because of his mother.

But when his mother was about to die, he accidentally said “People like you (his mother) would rather just die.”

So he felt guilty and preferred to leave playing the piano.

But it is not really Kousei's fault either because his mother trained Kousei so hard that he felt depressed and unintentionally said that.

During his 2 years of not playing the piano, Kousei meets a girl who plays with pianika in the park.

The game was so flexible and free that Kousei was stunned. The girl was named Kaori Miyazano, a violinist.

 Then Kaori invites Kousei to enter the race with her.

And, for the first time the man listened to music live. He also saw how Kaori played. 

Very free and flexible to the point of making the audience stunned, but the judges did not like it even gave a lot of value reduction.
