When the issue of bullying reaches the principal's ear, Shoya is appointed as the culprit.
He stated that some of his friends also harassed Shoko, but they just kept quiet and turned away from him rejecting the fact that they were involved.
Immediately, his classmates begin to oppress him, similar to the treatment he gave to Shoko.

Fearing that this misunderstanding upsets Shoko, Shoya invites her to go to the playground with him and a group of his classmates.
There, Naoka Ueno finally voiced her dislike for Shoko.

Desperate to convince and change his mindset, Shoya seeks to meet with Yuzuru and Shoko on a regular basis.
During the fireworks festival, Shoko returns home on the grounds of completing some schoolwork.

Shoya manages to grab her and pulls her back, but she slips and falls right in the river, leaving her in a coma.
One night, Shoko dreams of receiving a farewell visit from Shoya.
Scared, he ran to the bridge where they usually fed koi and collapsed in a cry.

Shoya asks Shoko to stop blaming herself, and also admits that when she once considered giving up and ending her own life, she decides not to.
Shoya then asks Shoko to help him survive.
When Shoya goes to a school festival with Shoko, he learns how much his friends from elementary school still care for him, and they all reconcile.
Afterwards, Shkya asks her friends to go to the school festival together.
During the festival, Shlya finally overcomes his past mistakes and is finally able to see the faces of others, as he cries and realizes that he has at least found redemption and forgiveness for his past.
