Arafura S1 - Darker Than Black
S1 | Chapter II | Letters Red Ribbon Punishment

For some reason, a rumbling sound was so heard in the darkness. A calm, floating mind, feels very empty like nothingness. There was no feeling, no wound, everything seemed to slip like it was unmoved, just flowing like a meaningless void.

Jon felt such a thing, he had not yet regained consciousness from his sleep as if he was already very tired. His body was covered in sweat, his breathing was emitting water vapor hotter than his body. His cheeks looked red, even his blonde hair seemed to have been hit by rainwater. From his eyes a little wet like a water dam, a few drops had slipped on his cheeks, some hit the wall of the nose and disappeared as soon as they hit the lips.

"I'm sorry, Jon. I just want you to see it" Elijah said. He squeezes a warm cloth from a small bucket and puts it on Jon's forehead. Elijah smiled looking at Jon's eyes that looked weak, occasionally his left hand rubbed some of his blonde hair. Now he looks more like an ordinary man.

Actually all because Elijah is too much, he absorbs a lot of energy in Jon to create a world of memories of the past. Elijah could not make it carelessly, let alone bring someone to enter it. The world cannot be used like a ride without pay.

Just then, when Elijah touched Jon's hand with light, Jon was rendered unconscious. His body was laid down right beside Elijah and hugged him very tightly under a thick blanket. Hugs and warm feelings make the energy of life into a unity, bound like two separate threads, the two energies united together flow very fast until the creation of a world of past memories.

When the world of memory ended, Elijah woke up earlier. He found Jon's body had soaked his body with sweat. Clothes become heavy and form curves. It feels like warm water but it is not good if left.

A closet next to the exit still had a pile of clothes. There are two slots in the closet, it looks like one is owned by Jon's friend. Elijah picked up a white T-shirt and black shorts. A little dust fell from the clothes, but it was not dirty at all. Elijah changed his clothes.

When she finished, Elijah's mind turned to Jon. He then took off the clothes that covered Jon's body, no matter if he was a man, Elijah just wanted to wipe his sweat away to nothing. Elijah picked up a red shirt from the closet. The t-shirt was worn on Jon's body slowly without disturbing him.

A broad glass window makes cool air flow throughout the room. Elijah's gaze turned on the windows, the remaining beauty was nothing but ruined buildings, deserted streets, and scattered debris damaging several courtyards including dormitory courtyards.

Smiling sunlight is just a mere decoration of the sky, only signifying the weather is sunny at this time, not as a day full of freedom let alone relax as it used to be. Elijah remained vigilant, not too long standing near the window to avoid stalkers. It could be that a stray arrow just flew through the window, or worse, Jon and Elijah's whereabouts were known to the enemy.

"Ah, that's heavy. If there was a way out," muttered Elijah trying to lie down on Jon's side. The mattress felt soft but could not calm his mind. Elijah was still thinking about Jon's face in that world, he didn't speak at all when he knew his best friend would be a hindrance.

Elijah kept silent until the afternoon came. The blue sky turned a reddish orange, its light almost fading along with the academy's increasingly dark atmosphere. There is no visible light from the building to the street, except the silence brought by the night wind. In the room only lighted one white candle, although the candle was a leftover candle as big as a thumb, the light was able to devour the darkness of the room.

Jon is still unconscious. Elijah focused himself by channeling his energy from his power. Blue light like a moon, he rained down on Jon's chest. Elijah's eyes closed as his eyes gnawed at him every second, his breathing made regular so as not to make himself weak. Elijah was only focused, not knowing at all that the sun was hiding. The afternoon sky turned dark, ending in silence.

"It turns out you're here, Elijah."

The sound of people talking. His focus instantly broke making the moonlight from his hand end up disappearing. The look turned to glance at someone standing by the door, it turned out to be Viena. Eve the existence of the white-haired girl was not felt at all.

"I've sent you a letter, why are you looking for us?" Elijah asked, but it seemed as if Viena was fighting no matter.

His face looked flat filled with seriousness. His aura was not a known Viena aura, it felt harder than a log.

"Elia, don't tell me you told him," he threw in a suspicious tone.

Elijah looked away. "Sorry, Viena, I'm forced—"

"Why did you do it?" cut off Viena, "not that we promised to keep it a secret. We are not God who can solve problems just by telling everything!"

"It's not so, Viena" Elijah explained, "you know, about the rottenness of the Ankara mission that wants to thwart Mr Gen's mission? All of that to me was lost, nothing to do with Ankara's wishes at all."

Viena was a little surprised, "where do you know that as if you know her?"

"I started to understand when I was pouring my light on Jon in the meeting room. I accidentally read Jon's past about Ankara, it turns out he's a good boy! There must be something that makes him think evil," said Elijah.

Viena started to look upset. "It's hard to believe, Elijah. I'm sorry, that behavior is unlikely to change drastically, unless Ankara gradually hates Mr. Gen and wants to take him down" Elijah said as he walked up to the Window, "whether you think so, I will continue to make Ankara my enemy. I would not let such a person exist to destroy the Academy."

The night wind blows from the window. Viena's white hair twitched making her a little messy. His left hand lifted and slightly tidied it up.

"Why don't you believe it?" throw Elijah a question that sounds strange to Viena, her best friend from long ago.

"I understand how you feel, Viena. But, for me to let this academy split, everyone in it still has good people. I just want to crush the leaders who are the masterminds of destruction, not crush all the enemies. For me, there must be enemies who are forced to do the command, actually they want to find a way but do not know where. I as a moonlight user, I understand that, Viena! That's why I'll move in my own way!" Elijah is confident.

Viena slightly turned towards Elijah with a half-smiling face. However, his aura was not like one was appreciating.

"Your words cannot be accounted for. I know that not everyone is evil, but whoever is blocking Mr. Gen from rebuilding the academy, I will crush him to the root" Viena hurled with an aura of hatred, saying, he then walked up to Elijah until his steps stopped right beside him, "i know, Jon would definitely not accept Ankara as a criminal. He will soon come to rescue her from a holding cell. Just so you know, Elijah, I won't let that happen unless you want to be my enemy."

Elijah just kept quiet hearing that. For a moment her hands clenched but weakened back, for her Viena was her best friend. He is a defender of the truth and will obey anything for the sake of the truth, just as before when he and Elijah were still in the group of Airia, Viena is very devoted and reliable.

"Oh yeah, I forgot something," continued Viena, "Master Gen already knew about Jon's mission failure. Next time he won't make Jon move of his will. He sent a message to you."

Viena extended her left hand towards the floor. Instantly the blue flames burned the two floor tiles creating a scroll of paper tied in red ribbon. The blue flame disappeared as soon as it was finished. "That's all about the mission of Mr. Gen. He wanted Jon not to have to return to the castle for a while. May you be successful" continued Viena immediately disappeared from existence. Elijah realized, he used the power of time to come and go.

Elijah's gaze turned to look at the scroll. He picked it up and read the writing.
