A rectangular box of considerable size carried Lilis towards Mbok Tum's room. Not plain, the box has been wrapped neatly with wrapping paper and pinned a ribbon as well. So it looks more charming. Mbok Tum was stuffing some of his clothes into a tote bag when Lilis came in this morning. The woman who always carried her hair was flabbergasted to see the box that Lilis was carrying.
"What is it, Non?"
"Mbok, here's a little present from me and Mas Shehan for Mbok Tum's married niece. Please accept, yes." Lilis thrust the box after sitting on the edge of the bed - next to Mbok Tum.
"Why bother anyway, Non Lilis?" Mbok Tum is still reluctant to accept it because he is reluctant.
Lilis took Mbok Tum's hand and handed him the box. "It's okay, Mum. Just a simple gift. Please accept yes, Mbok."
Seeing the look of Lilis' smiling face, Mbok Tum was more reluctant to refuse the girl's sincerity for the second time.
"Alright, Non. Thank you very much yes, and please also say the same sir, thank you very much for allowing Mbok leave and give this gift."
"Yes, Mbok. I'll tell Mas Shehan. Be careful on the road, Mbok."
"Yes, No."
Finished cleaning clothes and items to be brought, Mbok Tum left the Shehan Murad residence house accompanied by Lilis to the front of the main terrace. Lilis asked Maman to take Mbok Tum, but was rejected because Mbok Tum said he would stop at his other brother's house before coming to his nephew's reception.
The big house now feels empty. There was only Lilis alone when Shehan was working and Nurbanu studied at the Sunflower Kindergarten school. Fortunately Mbok Tum was only on leave for three days. On Monday, he will return to this house and it is still Friday. That means there are still two days left before Mbok Tum's return.
**
Weeks.
The smell of pandanus is pouring out, surrounding the kitchen area. Lilis was stirring small pieces of yellow pumpkin that she processed into compotes. As a complement, Lilis added banana pieces to the fruitful and sweet food. The preoccupation stirred, Lilis unaware that Shehan had come to the kitchen to visit her.
"What are you cooking?"
Lilis was surprised to hear Shehan's question which suddenly stood right behind her as she wrapped her hands to her stomach - while looking towards the compote pot as well.
"This is like a ghost! Not knowing when it came, it suddenly appeared here!" taste Lilis.
"You're so absorbed in cooking that you don't know your husband is coming."
Cup....
A friendly kiss landed on Lilis' cheek. Sontak Lilis smiled widely. "Mas..," he called her softly.
"What are you cooking?" shehan asked again, still curious.
"Oh this...." Lilis turned her attention to the pot, "this is a compote, Mas. I've never eaten, have I?"
Shehan shook his head a few times.
"Later when it's ripe, try it, yes. Must be addictive!" lilis said, sure.
"No way!" Cynical reply by Shehan.
Lilis looked dumbfounded. "Why? It's delicious, Mas!"
"Ck! His appearance does not appear. You'll spend it later" Shehan said.
"Mas hasn't tried, anyway!" Lilis insisted.
"No...." Shehan left the kitchen, out of nowhere.
Lilis hissed as she shook her head several times seeing her husband's departure. Though the compote he made today will be dedicated specifically to Shehan, Shehan refused to eat it without tasting it first. As a result after the compote is finished cooking and has become cold temperature, Lilis keeps the compote in the refrigerator so as not to quickly stale and so more delicious when eaten when cold-in Lilis' opinion.
Three hours later.
Nurbanu emerged from his room with double braided hair on the left and right sides of his head. Ribbons decorated with cherry accessories also perfect the braids of the little boy. He wears casual clothes and a typical sling bag of girls that is attached crosswise in front of the chest. While being held in her right hand by Lilis, the couple mother and son continued to come to Shehan who was busy watching the news on television.
"Mas..," call Lilis from beside the sofa-standing together with Nurbanu.
Shehan looks around at his son and wife from top to bottom. Both of them wear unusual clothes.
Nurbanu let go of Lilis' hand, approaching his father on the sofa.
"Father! Banu wants to buy a checkered book with a picture of Mickey Mouse." The little boy whined spoiled. His whimper invited a smile like Lilis.
"A checkered book with a picture of Mickey Mouse?" Shehan frowned, not sure the book existed, "there really is a book?"
Lilis approached the two. "We still want to find it in the bookstore, Mas. There might be. That's why you want to ask permission first, we'll go out for a minute."
Shehan nodded a few times. "Yes, already. Don't go home for long, yeah!"
"Yes, Mas. Is there something from the outside? Let's buy them later."
"Hhmm .. nothing."
"All right, we're leaving now, ma'am."
"Yes, be careful on the road."
Lilis nodded. "Come, Banu!" His hands stretched out and were quickly greeted by Nurbanu.
Shehan resumed watching the news on television after Lilis left the living room with her daughter. Their shadow was gone behind the bend of the wall. The time has been shown at 16:32 pm at this time, the tea time clock has also passed, but Shehan has not eaten any snacks. Sitting quietly in front of the television made her stomach feel hungry.
Shehan went to the kitchen. Looking for something she can eat. When opening the refrigerator, Shehan accidentally saw a round container of clear color and made of glass inside one of the shelves. On a whim, Shehan opened the lid of the container. It turned out to be a yellow pumpkin compote made by Lilis earlier. Shehan was reluctant to eat it at first. However, when he smelled the smell of pandan which was appetizing, Shehan became interested in tasting it.
He also took a bowl and a spoon. Fill the bowl with a piece of compote without any contents. Shehan then tasted. The sweet taste is fitting, the sauce is not too thick, but also not diluted. Plus the fragrant pandan aroma
Several times Shehan took a sip of the compote. It feels really good. Addicted, Shehan reneged on his words earlier. He took the cabbage sauce along with its contents in large portions. Bring the full bowl to the middle room. Eat kolak while watching television again.
One mouthful, two mouthfuls and three feedings. Apparently Shehan likes the yellow pumpkin compote made by Lilis. Fun to eat while watching television, so Shehan did not know that Lilis was coming home again.
"Loh, Mum. He said he wouldn't eat a kolak."
Brussels....
"Yahoo!" Suddenly the kuah kolak and pumpkin that Shehan was chewing sprayed out of his mouth was so shocked. Shehan placed the bowl he had been holding onto the table. Banging on the chest while still coughing and choking. "Uhuk! Uhuk! Uhuk!"
Lilis immediately went to the kitchen to get a glass of water, then gave it to Shehan. "Drink first, Mum!"
"Yahuuk! Uhuuk! Uhuuk!" Shehan grabbed Lilis's handing glass. Sipping the water until the toilet.
Gluey! Gluey! Gluey!
Lilis rubbed Shehan's back, intending to help.
"Why did you suddenly come home? He said he was going to the bookstore!" nagging Shehan. Put an empty glass on the table near the compote bowl.
"My wallet's gone, Mom. That's why I came home to get my wallet."
"You're so careless! Where is nurbanu now?"
"Yes, sorry. Banu waiting in the car. Not going down he said. But how do you eat his legumes? He said he wouldn't eat?" Lilis leaned towards Shehan, marking her husband.
"I'm choking on eating that compote." Shehan defended himself.
Lilis glanced at the bowl on the table which seemed to be left half compote only from the boundary of the former compote that was originally high and attached to the inner wall of the bowl.
"Definitely Mas like, right ... his collars? Just confess, deh!" Lilis squinting eyes-plus teasing.
Shehan turned away in shame. Already caught eating a compote made by Lilis which he initially made sure if he would not touch it.
