At midnight, Kyra awakens from her sleep. The woman blinked a few times, adjusting her retina to the lighting.
Kyra realized, there was only Emily by her side. He was confused, then where was his son? Is he asleep? But, where is it? They were, right, in the Kennedy mansion.
With great difficulty, Kyra took off the windings of Emily's hand on her waist. The little girl hugged him all night, reasoned still afraid and did not want to be left behind. Of course Kyra was devastated and let the child seek comfort in her body.
Kyra managed to get out of Emily's room. He deliberately did not close the door tightly so that he could return easily. His eyes wandered all the way around the corner, dark. It seemed like the entire mansion's inhabitants were wading through the dream world.
Go find Darren, but where are you going, wehh? Did he knock on one of his rooms?
That's obviously a ridiculous idea. If Kyra does that, instead of finding Darren, she creates a new problem.
“Kyra?”
Kyra gasps. Reflexes he reverses the body with the movements of the horses.
Cavan. Kyra's level of vigilance is really high, even though they are inside the mansion— which has strict guard from various directions. “What are you doing?” ask Cavan.
Before answering, the woman fixed the position. He rubbed his chest, trying to neutralize the crazy heartbeat from shock. He regretted lowering his instincts until he was unaware of Cavan's presence. “I find my son. Sir see no?”
“Darren?”
“My son is only one, Sir. It just so happens that he can't split independently, so it's him I'm looking for.”
Cavan grunting. He understands where Darren's annoying nature comes from. It was from her mom. Ah, the man couldn't imagine how many quarrels would occur if they joined into one family.
“He slept with Eiden,” Cavan replied.
“Oh?” Kyra surprised. What does Cavan mean about Darren sleeping with Eiden? Sleeping in one room? One bed? One blanket?
This.really?
Seeing Kyra frowning in disbelief, Cavan pointed at the door next to Emily's room. “That's Eiden's room. You check aja.”
Curious and eager to prove, Kyra solemnly stepped closer to the door she was pointing at. He turned the knob slowly and pushed it until it caused a gap.
And, yeah. Cavan's words are not wrong. Darren was inside, sleeping one room with Eiden. In fact, they are hugging now.
Wow, wow, looks like there's something the lady missed. Why was his son so close to Eiden?
“They match, right?” cavan said slowly behind Kyra. The middle-aged man also peered inside, looking at his sleeping son while hugging Darren by his side.
Kyra nodded. “Iya, Sir. Fits great. Suitable to be made enemies, I mean.”
Goddamnit! Cavan wants to curse, but he can't. His image as a good candidate-in-law could be shattered instantly. “You are too honest, Son,” Cavan said.
“Hohoo... I was indeed born with a haqiqi innocence, Sir. So, I'm always honest.” Kyra smiled with a made-up plain look.
Cavan sizzles cynically. Not wanting to get himself out of control, he turns around and leaves Kyra giggling in front of Eiden's room. I swear, he's pissed off half to death.
As Cavan left, Kyra gave a small smile. His gaze was directed into Eiden's room.
Are you happy, dear?
...💫💫💫...
The next day...
“Mami,” greet Darren who just came out of the room with Eiden. The boy looked bright. Her tiny legs ran over to Kyra who was sitting on one of the chairs in the dining room. “Morning kiss where?”
Kyra smiled. He came down from the bench and kissed his son's cheek twice, and was told the same thing. The difference is, Darren will kiss Kyra lama—kye thing that Wildan used to do when he was alive.
Emily who was sitting next to Kyra pursed her lips. He only got one kiss on the right cheek from Kyra. But Darren got two. It's not fair, he thought.
Emily was about to protest, but she held back with all her might. At least until Kyra and Eiden get married.
“You slept well, Darling?” tanya Kyra sat Darren next to her. So, the woman was flanked by two small children. Meanwhile, Eiden takes a position next to Emily.
“Yes, Mi. Very soundly,” replied Darren spirit. “Mami tau, last night Darren dream beautiful, you know.”
“Oh, yes? What dream?”
Before he could answer, some servants came and served food.
“Thank you, Aunty,” said Kyra and Darren in unison.
The servants were stunned. They carved out a thin smile and nodded. One of them ventured to make a sound. “No need to thank, Miss. It's our duty to serve others.”
“Iya, Darren tau, kok.” The boy replied without taking his eyes off his plate. Kyra is taking a serving of fried rice. “Makanya, Darren sama mami says thank you. It's Aunt's job, and Aunt has done her best. So, Aunt's efforts should be appreciated. Yes, right, Mi?”
Kyra nodded. He looked at the servants who were looking at his son. “Thank you for the hard work, Aunty,” reset Kyra more clearly.
Cavan, Abigail, and Eiden smiled stiffly. Rarely did they treat the servants like that. Although they are not the type of people who judge through appearance and status, but say ‘thank you’ and ‘maaf’ are rarely thrown. Let alone mentioning the word ‘tolong’, it is impossible.
“Oh, so Emily should thank you too?” Emily's innocent nature is stirred.
Kyra rubs Emily's head dear. “Iya, Pretty. If others give us something, do good to us, and help us, we should be grateful. Emily okay?”
“Unclearance, Mommy. Emily later said thank you too.” This innocent thinking of a child is what needs to be utilized. They will absorb new knowledge and advice much faster. Especially if the parents exemplify well, then the child will tend to follow.
Cavan. “Let's eat.”
After that, silence was created. Like a family, Kyra and Darren's presence completes the Kennedy family vacuum. The most affected of course Emily. Just look at the little girl, she was enjoying a bribe from Kyra.
Eiden frowning. Why is he being ignored?
Is this what Darren felt when Kyra was more concerned with Emily?
Now Eiden understands. Not being ignored by loved ones is a little stifling.
...💫💫💫...
The breakfast together is over.
Cavan and Abigail take Kyra and Darren for a quick chat. Luckily, Eiden asked permission that his daughter and son Kyra not go to school on the grounds of yesterday's kidnapping. However, for the size of the children, the tragedy of the past is not a playful thing.
“Mami.” Darren came with a relaxed look. “Darren want to talk to you for a minute, can you?”
Kyra cringing. “Both?”
“Iya, two aja.” Darren purposely pressed his sentence. He could see the adorable wink in Emily's eyes, the little girl's habit of whining.
Finally, Darren can control his mom even for a little while. Surely Emily will sulk as usual. Darren knows that it's just Emily's trick to attract the sympathy of others. Unfortunately, the boy was always difficult to resist every look at the girl's heartbreaking look.
“What's up, Honey?” ask Kyra curiously.
“Mi, last night Darren dreams of meeting papi.”
Kyra speechless. He let his son continue his story.
“Darren main satisfied with papi. Papi asked Darren to swing, flying on his back, same roll on the grass. Papi's weird, yeah, Mi.”
According to others, yes. But, for Kyra, it was a uniquely Wildan. The man had a great compassionate nature. Childhood lovers since adolescence. No wonder Wildan really took Darren rolling around.
“Before Darren wakes up, papi sends a message to Mami. Darren doesn't know if this is a real message from papi or just Darren doang's dream. But, Darren considers this a trust, so Darren wants to convey to mami.”
Kyra nodded in understanding. “Papi says what, Darling?”
Darren cleared his throat briefly. “Papi says, ‘Darren, say same to your mom. Papi is happy here, so you should be happy too. Don't deny the line of fate just because of Papi. Your mom should be happy too even if it's not because of Papi’. That's what he said, Mi.”
Kyra's body froze. That sentence strongly describes the situation now.
The biggest reason Kyra refuses to remarry is because of her love for Wildan. The woman was afraid of disappointing her husband by opening her heart to another man. Unexpectedly, Wildan instead sent a message through Darren like this.
“Papi says what else, Darling?” Kyra wants to know more.
“Papi says, papi is proud of Darren. Darren could be a good brother to Emily and a good son to Mami. Papi also hugs Darren similarly rubbing Darren's head, you know, Mi,” Darren reply to the invasion. He did not know if the boy's sentence had any implicit meaning in it.
Kyra rubbed her son's head. “Mami is also proud of Darren.”
Darren cengengesan, he's happy. “But, Mi, what papi message mean? Darren keeps thinking, but, really, don't meet.”
“Nothing, Honey. It's an adult's secret.” Kyra looked at her son with a grim look.
Darren grunting. “Darren is great, Mami!”
...💫💫💫...
“You want to go home, Son?” Abigail looked at Kyra. “Not want to be here any minute?”
Emily nodded, confirming. “Mommy don't go.”
Kyra did not answer. She smiled and rubbed Emily's head warmly. His gaze refocused on Cavan, Abigail, and Eiden standing at the main door to prevent him from returning home. “I've made a decision, Sir, Madam.”
The three people in front of him frowned, confused.
“About the wedding offer,” added Kyra.
“Ah..” Abigail gave a hopeful look. “So, how, son? You accepted our offer, right?”
