He's Dead

Upon arriving at the hospital, Alby immediately searches for Devi and Renata. This morning he got word from Devi that Sean was critical.

After getting permission from the hospital director, Alby went straight to Singapore.

Alby arrived in a hurry while walking towards Devi who was sitting down on the waiting room chair.

Not until Alby arrived near Devi, Alby saw Renata who had just arrived with both eyes as she walked towards Devi like a dazed person.

"Ta," call Alby.

"Have you come?" renata is weak.

"Where's Sean? How's he doing?" ask Alby.

Renata turned to Devi for a bit before she finally looked at Alby with a pus.

"Sean's in the critical care room, let's take her to see Sean," Renata tells Alby to follow her.

Renata does not want to explain how Sean is now and what is the worst possibility that will happen to Sean now in front of Devi because Renata does not have the heart to see Devi's state. The girl just sat quietly with empty eyes and occasionally sobbed slowly making Renata powerless to just open her mouth.

Once there, Alby could see Sean weakly lying on top of the gurney with various medical devices attached to his body.

"Sean had recurrent acute intra-abdominal bleeding. A CT scan shows an independent intra-abdominal fluid collection. Sean showed signs of hemorrhagic¹ shock and received four erythrocyt² concentrates and six units of fresh frozen plasma. Duplex-sonografi³ shows decreased liver perfusion. Liver⁴ transaminase increased and Sean suffered a non-STEMI myocardial infarction without any indication for concurrent acute catheter intervention" Renata explained.

"Is Sean's stomach twitching?" ask Alby.

"Yes. That's because of the large amount of free intra-abdominal fluid in her stomach. After this the doctor will do a laparotomy exploration⁵," explained Renata.

Alby breathed heavily. Sean's condition is really on the threshold but Alby tries to think positively.

"I'll go with Devi first. He must be very sad about Sean's condition" Renata said.

Alby stared straight at Sean without retaliating. His eyes began to glaze over at the condition of his friend who was struggling between life and death.

Alby looked at Sean for a long time before he finally shed both tears on his cheeks. Alby lowered his head deeply holding back his sobs.

After seeing Sean's condition, Alby rushed to meet Devi. The girl must be very sad to see her brother's condition getting worse.

Alby saw Devi sitting quietly alone in the waiting room. Alby walked over to Devi and sat crouching in front of Devi while holding Devi's hands.

Devi who felt someone clasping her hand raised her head and looked at Alby with an indecipherable look.

"Sir Renata is taking care of Sean's brother's administration" Devi told Alby. Alby nodded his head in response.

"It's noon, have you eaten yet?" alby asked softly while wiping away the trace of tears on Devi's cheeks.

"I'm not hungry" replied Devi.

"But you have to keep eating. Your stomach will hurt if you don't eat. Let's get you some food," Alby pulled Devi's hand slowly but Devi held her back.

"I don't want to leave Sean's brother alone. What if you wake up and look for me but I'm not here? I don't want to om, I don't want to leave here" Devi said in tears.

Alby hugged Devi's little body and stroked her back slowly to calm Devi down.

"It hasn't been 23 days but why is Sean's brother like this? Om Alby didn't lie to me, did he?" devi asked in her tears.

"I'm sorry" said Alby.

"I haven't even finished spending my time with Sean and I haven't apologized for what I've done. My mistakes with my sister are many and I don't want my sister to leave before I can apologize. Let's get brother up so I can apologize to him" Devi asked, crying loudly.

Alby was speechless other than just being able to hug Devi and try to calm her down.

"You take it easy, your brother will soon wake up. The doctor will do an exploratory laparotomy and after that your brother will be fine" Alby comforted.

Devi releases her hug on Alby and rubs her tears.

"We're waiting for the results from the doctor?" alby asked who was answered nodding by Devi.

"When you wait for the doctor to finish the laparotomy, you have to eat first. Let me accompany you to the cafeteria," take Alby. This time Devi does not refuse him and just walks around following Alby's every step that leads him to the hospital cafeteria.

After finishing eating, Alby and Devi return to their original place to wait for news from the doctor.

Once they arrive, Alby and Devi find Renata frantically searching for their whereabouts.

"Sean was conscious" Renata said as Devi and Alby arrived.

Devi who heard it immediately sighed in relief even her eyes were also teary.

"The doctor asked us to meet Sean" Renata said.

"Let's go inside om!" get Devi excited.

Alby nods his head at Devi's request with Renata walking after them.

After wearing sterile clothes, Devi immediately rushed closer to Sean.

"Are you awake?" ask Devi.

Sean simply replied with a nod.

"Where is sick? I'm gonna ask Alby to check on you" Devi and Sean said with a slit on their head.

Devi sighed softly, then the next second Devi kissed Sean's old forehead while shedding her tears.

"I'm sorry, brother," Devi's cry broke while hugging Sean.

"I'm sorry I haven't been able to be a good sister to you. I have always troubled brother, never obeyed brother's orders and always made brother angry. I'm really sorry to big brother huaa..."

Alby also stroked Devi's back to calm Devi who was crying.

"No, sister brother never wrong anything to sister. Now it is my brother who should apologize to you. Brother is sorry?" sean said softly.

"I won't forgive you if you leave me alone. Brother has to promise me, brother will keep me company until I grow up, have a cool job, handsome husband and many children. My brother must accompany me until that time comes. Brother can't leave before I go first. Promise me brother!!" said Devi.

"By, please take good care of Devi and please protect her" Sean told Alby.

"No!! I don't want Alby!! I want my brother to take care of me!! Why did you say such words?!!"

"Ta, please take good care of yourself. You must forget me and meet another man whose love exceeds my love for you. I'm sorry I hurt you and I'm also grateful that you've been taking care of me all this time" Sean told Renata, ignoring Devi's words.

"Please stop saying such words, brother!!" reprimand Devi while covering both ears using both hands.

"Dev you don't want to sleep next to brother now?" asked Sean with a smile.

Devi takes off her hands covering her ears and starts riding in the gurney with Alby's help.

Once lying next to Sean, Devi hugged Sean's body tightly from the side.

"So I promise not to stay with me?"

Sean nodded his head slowly.

Devi tightened her body towards Sean and drowned her face into Sean's neck to hide her cries.

"Sister should stay with me until I grow up and have kids. Promise to you, brother?"

Sean was silent without shaking his head.

Devi slowly stretched out her hand and placed her hand on Sean's chest. Devi can still feel Sean's chest still up and down sign Sean is still breathing.

"I want when I get married, it's my brother who is my guardian, not Alby or anyone else" Devi said.

Silent! All that was heard was Renata's sobbing and Alby's voice trying to calm Renata down.

"So don't be quiet. Come promise me brother, link brother's little finger to me" Devi pinta lifted one of her little fingers.

Slowly, Sean's hand began to lift and linked his little finger to Devi's little finger.

"Look, big brother promised me" said Devi cheerfully although tears never stopped coming down her cheeks.

A few seconds later, Sean's hand fell. His chest no longer moves up and down, the sound of Sean's heart rate meter sounds long sign Sean's life has ended. Sean was pronounced dead of persistent intra-abdominal bleeding from angiosarcomatosis lesions.

"It turns out brother broke a promise."
