Chapter 9 - Bad daughter-in-law - The

Where's wrong?

For weeks Binar never calmed down. His mind wondered what was wrong with him? Why is he seen so badly? Although it looks fine, but in his heart the unrest is so haunting. Seeing the attitude of Lady who was good but the attitude of the neighbors who always looked cynical about her really confused Binar. What should he behave like?

Fay even wondered why lately Binar looks often dreamy.

“Lo why the hell?” ask Fay.

Binar looked over forcing his smile. “Nothing, just tired aja.”

Fay stared in disbelief, he had known Binar for years and knew very well that his best friend was hiding something.

“Bi, if you have any more problems please story. I recently saw that you are very lethargic, I know something is bothering you right.” Fay looked seriously at Binar.

Binar was still wondering if she should tell Fay the problem.

“Gue is just thinking how to be a good daughter-in-law and wife.” Said Binar still trying not to tell all her anxiety.

“Ella and the stone time disturb you lo again?” ask Fay guessing the origin of the restlessness of Binar.

Binar shook his head, “not, they were busy with campus activities. In fact, I have rarely met Ella since Blue negur his sister.”

“Gue is not sure if this strange attitude is just because of how to be a good ghost and wife. I'm sure there's more to it than that.”

Once again Binar shook his head. Fay understands, Binar is not ready to tell a story and he will not force his best friend. Fay can only pray that whatever problems Binar can solve well. He just wants his best friend to be happy wherever and whenever.

...****************...

Binar could feel a hostile look from his neighbor. Binar did nothing but say hello politely. She just got home from work and found a group of Moms she knew were gossiping. And among them there is Mother Siti, the in-law who is now looking at her with a warm smile like a mother in general.

But somehow Binar could not see sincerity in the eyes of Mother Siti.

“Eh Binar is home, let's go in. Must be tired of coming home from work?” Ms. Siti welcomed Binar warmly, something she had never done before.

Binar smiled politely, “sorry yes My mothers are interrupting.”

Bu Ani smiled a little cynically, “nothing mbak Binar. Please enter, must be very tired ya just came home from work.”

“Ya tired Ni, her name work until this afternoon.” Ms. Wiwi chimed in, which was greeted by the laughter of other mothers.

Binar felt like he was laughing.

“Work is work but do not forget the obligation as a wife and daughter-in-law, is it mbak Binar?” this time, Miss Rini made a sound. So cynical and full of satire.

Binar knew, well knew what the words meant. He glanced at Mother Siti who was just silent with a small smile on her lips.

“Alhamdulillah, I have not forgotten my obligation Mothers all.” Binar replied still with her polite smile.

“Ah time? If it runs out this must be cleaned and cooked dong.” Instantly Binar removed his polite smile hearing Bu Ani's words.

“Iya Ma'am, if so please excuse me first.” Pamit Binar immediately went into the house without wanting to look again, she felt humiliated by the group of Mothers.

Now that Binar knew all of Dinda's words were true, Lady Siti talked about the no-no behind him. Binar just didn't expect her in-laws to be so evil, she wondered where her fault lay. Did you choose to work something wrong?

Why didn't her mother-in-law speak to her directly if she didn't want Binar to work? Why tell the other neighbor? Inner Binar wondered. All this time he worked hard trying to be a good wife and daughter-in-law but it turned out to be unappreciated, wanting to feel like Binar was crying.

...****************...

Who realized the change of Binar lately is not just Fay, almost all who know Binar well realize something is not right. From the outside Binar looks fine, all work is going well but the woman's sad face indicates something is wrong.

Binar did not know who to tell her, it was impossible for her parents because she knew her mother would be worried. It was impossible for Albiru as well because he was afraid that all this was just misunderstanding and instead aggravating the atmosphere.

“Mbak Binar!” the call awakened Barin from his daydream. He didn't even realize he had been sitting pensively in front of the house for long, waiting for Albiru to come home from work.

Dinda who happened to pass by immediately greeted Binar. He was a little worried about Binar because of his words at that time.

“Hai mbak,” Binar greeted back with his small smile.

“Mbak all right?” Ask Dinda carefully.

Binar shook his head weakly, “how can I be okay mbak?”

Dinda felt increasingly guilty, regretting her decision to recount the actions of Binar's in-laws.

“Mbak Dinda don't have to feel guilty, ” said Binar after seeing the guilty look from Dinda. “I already know everything you say is true. I watched it myself.”

Dinda was surprised to not expect if Binar witnessed it himself. He knew very well what his heartache was because he had also experienced it. In addition to heartache he was also ashamed of being underestimated by other neighbors. And until now Dinda did not know what purpose the Mothers were telling their own daughter-in-law.

“I was also in the position mbak Binar,” Dinda began to tell stories about his difficult times. “I even had to willingly resign for the pleasure of my in-laws. I was judged not to be a wife because I was busy working, at that time I was pregnant so my in-laws increasingly pressured me to immediately stop working. And my husband has no power whatsoever.”

“Do I have to be like mbak too? My job is my dream, even I have to try hard to reach my position now at my young age.”

Dinda shook her head, “don't give up mbak, prove you can be a good wife and daughter-in-law and have a good career.”

Binar smiled thinly, “lately I have thought of this mbak but have not found the right answer.”

Dinda looks more guilty because it adds to the burden of the mind of Binar, “ maybe I should not tell the same story mbak.”

Not had time to answer another voice already interrupted, “what story?” asked Albiru who had been standing behind the two since when.

Binar and Dinda were shocked, not knowing what to do. Binar looked at Albiru doubtfully, did her husband hear her conversation with Dinda? She was afraid that Albiru misunderstood her and hated her instead.
