"So it has something to do with Java, huh?" much

"Betul, Bali and Java are brothers" said Gusde

After being satisfied to talk and know the ins and outs of the funeral in Trunyan. We also heard screaming. We panicked, as soon as Dika and Prasta pulled my hand.

"What's that sound?" ask Prasta

"It seems like there is a celebration" said Gusde.

"Aaah. will be exciting this show, this show is only done once a year. Lucky we came here today." said Mas Arya.

I was still confused by what Gusde and Mas Arya were talking about. Celebrations what does it mean. Is a piodalan or a show that .. wait, once a year.. Waaa lucky for me. I can see this show. A very unique dance.

"You are smiling, Ra." asked Ivan

"Aren't you scared?" ask Prasta

"Seneng dunk, I know what show there is." I said

Everyone then looked at me. Yes, there are performances that are a series of Odalan ceremonies.

"What?" ask Gusde

"Barong Brutuk" I said

"Kok you know?" ask Mas Arya

"I wrote a paper on Megaliths in Trunyan Village" I said proudly

The others were then busy seeing the rare show.

In addition to the uniqueness in the burial of the corpse, it also has a rare dance called Barong Brutuk very rarely performed except when odalan at Pura Pancering Jagat Trunyan village on purnamaning sasih kapat.

Barong Brutuk is a pair of statues or barong typical of Bali. Balinese Hindus believe that Barong Brutuk is the symbol of the ruler in Trunyan Village, Ratu Sakti Pancering Jagat (male/male / in the inscription called Ratu Datonta) and Ida Ratu Ayu Pingit Dalem Basis (female).

Barong Brutuk imparted the knowledge of ancestors to their succeeding generations. Barong Brutuk is also said to symbolize the meeting of women with men–laki as the process of human life in Hinduism called Purusa and Pradana.

"What danced it was a teenager, huh?" ask Prasta.

"Barong brutuk is danced by 21 young people who previously had to go through a quarantine period first for 42 days held around the holy area of the temple, for 42 days the young man was forbidden to leave the temple area and was forbidden to have contact with women" Gusde said.

"His costume was made from dried banana leaves huh?" ask Satria

"Unlike other Barong dances in Bali whose clothes are usually very full of ornamental motifs, Barong Brutuk's fashion is very simple. No carvings, no pieces of glass, let alone golden prada paint. Only groups of dried banana leaves (Keraras), which are said to only be picked from Pinggan Village." said Mas Arya

We then re-examined the very interesting and unique show.

Barong Brutuk is not accompanied by music. Brutuk just take a walk in the yard or surround Jeroan Pura while carrying a whip.  So it is actually a bit difficult if you say dancing, because it is just praying, walking around and whipping. Not many residents are allowed to enter to avoid whipping. Many residents were seen watching from behind the fence, there were also some who were reckless at the door of the Jeroan.

"For what purpose did the inhabitants take the dried banana leaf cut?" ask Dika

"Residents believe that the kraras leaf cut from Barong Brutuk brings salvation and blessing. So too is the whip. It is believed to provide healing (tamba) for the sick. Some of the children called and teased Barong Brutuk to whip at them" said Mas Putu

But when Barong Brutuk was approaching and whipping, the boys were on the run and laughing happily. There are some people who have been affected by the blisters as well.

There was even a resident who looked sick and even insisted on being whipped, and when whipped instead of running away but instead gave himself – because he believed in the medicinal properties of Barong Brutuk's wounds.

In addition, several times I saw Barong Brutuk was throwing fruits from banten to the audience. And people are scrambling to get it, because it is also believed to be a blessing and a cure.

"This performance is very long. The morning is only in the courtyard of Jeroan Pura, then after a moment Istiahat continued to the area of Jaba Pura (outer part/areal Pura lower). The afternoon was staged how Trunyan men and women in the past sought their partners, which is called the methamphetamine event" said Gusde

"Returned?" much

"Barong Brutuk with the mask of the king and queen danced this romance dance. They both dance with her aggressiveness, until finally feel fit and married. I explained that in Trunyan's public belief, that the business of finding a mate is not just a matter of men who must aggressively select and make their life choices, he said, but the women deserve to be just as aggressive in making their own choices" replied Mas Arya

This Barong Brutuk lasts for a full day. Unlike the Barong performances in general, Barong Brutuk does not use any musical accompaniment and his dance does not use a dance pakem in general. The dancers dance by themselves while directing their long whips.

"Ahead of the afternoon, the end of Barong Brutuk's performance was marked by the dancers taking off their masks and costumes. Then they would bathe or bathe in the lake. After that, the ceremony was closed by praying together and megibung (tradition of eating together)" said Gusde

We then stepped up into the temple. In this village there is a temple. The temple is called Pancering Jagad. We were also amazed by this ancient temple. In the temple there is a very sacred statue.

"Pura Pancering jagat, is one of the temples found in Trunyan Village, Bangli Regency.  If you visit this puran, there will be a statue with a large size and quite high named Bhatara Datonta or Bhatara Ratu Pancering Jagat. The statue of Bhatara Datonta is one of the relics in the great stone age. The statue depicts the expression of a bhatara with a very dashyat expression, his left hand hanging loosely on the left side of his body; his right hand bent over the shoulder towards the back, the position of carrying an axe; the statue is very loose; her vitals were striking down, but soft. Just below that vital organ is a hole that depicts the female genitals. Both are considered vital symbols of male and female strength. The symbol is thought to be an early form of the phallus and yoni, the power of Lord Shiva and Goddess Uma in Hindu tradition. Bhatara Ratu Pancering Jagat has as many as 21 unen-unen people in the form of masks called Barong Brutuk." I said explained.

"It looks like we can't get in. We can only see from the outside. But wait we can definitely get in" Gusde said

"How'd it go?" ask Prasta

"This is what we use to wear kamen. We can pray there." said Mas Arya

We glanced at each other and then smiled. But suddenly a dancer Barong Brutuk approached us.

"Please" he said while handing over klaras (dry banana leaves).

I smiled and said thank you. I don't know why I got those banana leaves in person.

After that, we went straight into the Pancering Jagad Temple.

The existence of Pura Ratu Gede Pancering Jagat and Arca datonta is also written in several inscriptions. In the inscriptions of Trunyan AI, Trunyan B, Bwahan A, Bwahan B, Bwahan C, Bwahan E, Batur Pura Tulukbiyu, and Pura Tulukbiyu B elaborated about social interaction religious at the time of religious ceremony attended by the temple community. The inscriptions describe the ritual activities directed to Ratu Pancering Jagat or better known as Bhatara Da Tonta in Desa Turunan (Trunyan). This shows the existence of social contact in the community in one banua in the area of Lake Batur.

"They perform this sacred ritual there must be a purpose, right?" ask Ivan

"Surely, Nara .. do you know about this ritual with the Temple of Pancering Jagad?" ask Dika

"In Trunyan B Inscription (in 833 Caka) clearly explained the relationship between the villages in Trunyan especially between Air Hawang Village and Desa Turun-an. Er Rawang Village and Desa Turun-an have their respective duties in the ceremony of Bhatara Da Tonta greatness and if they cannot do the task then each village will be subject to obligation." I explained.

Referring to the contents of the inscription it is clear that the belief in Ratu gede Pancering Jagat or Bhatara Da Tonta that developed since prehistoric times continues in classical times and until now. That is also why the temple to glorify Bhatara Da Tonta is kept, sacred and preserved.

"In early 2007 this temple was hit by a disaster because the tree fell which resulted in 17 pelinggih along with three bentar temples and the temple barrier wall was destroyed. But thanks to the cooperation between the community, private elements and the government of this temple have been renovated again" I added

Pura Pancering Jagat is a terraced (slag) structure, it refers to the concept of loka which shows the higher the page of the temple the more sacred. Pura Pancering Jagat is generally divided into four pages (loka) with a rectangular temple plan. Four pages (loka) contained in Pancering Jagat Temple is then divided into temple complexes complete with pelinggih building.

"What is this first terrace?" ask Ivan

"Jaba Sisi Page. Jaba sisi page (Jabaan/nista mandala) there is a building in the form of wantilan which serves as a meeting hall of the people of Terunyan Village and is also used to carry out tabuh rah (chicken tube) during the pecaruan ceremony" said Gusde.

"What about page 2?" ask Ms. Yessy.

To get to the Central jaba page must pass through a kori agung which is the main entrance of Pancering Jagat Temple with a direction facing west according to the winds of the people of Terunyan Village, which is south of the lake.

"Haman Jaba Tengah (Tempek Semanggen) there are several pieces of pelinggih which are four buildings and three pieces of pelinggih" said Gusde

We just passed and took photos together. After that, we went straight to the main building. It's a good and new opportunity this time. One of the gedongs or houses of sculpture is open.

"The Descendant's inscription." I said

"You know what it sounds like?" ask Gusde

I just nodded my head. I then approached the inscription gedong. I pray and pray first. After that, I read some good contents.
