Zed's father approached us but could not bear to separate me from his son. ''It's okay, until we know why he's here. He's walking past our security line. He can't do it without help. His strength is not so strong.''
Victor kept me away from Zed making our embrace come off and held my eyes back with his sharp gaze. ''Tell me why you're here. Did someone send you?'' He used his talent, coating his words with coercion to answer. I could hear it like a harmony running under the melody. That's sore. "Sky, you have to tell me."
"Stop, stop!'' I sobbed, pulled away from her, stumbled backwards. ''Get out of my brain, all of you!'' I tripped, ended up sitting in the snow, head sandwiched between my hands.
Zed pushed and then hit Victor to get out of the way and pulled me into his arms again. He's very angry. "I'll take her inside and I don't care what you say. She's mine, my soul mate and you (Victor) better not try to stop me.'' Zed's eyes looked at her brother with anger.
This announcement was met with shock from his brothers, except from Zed's father.
''Look at him, in.he turned blue from the cold.'' Zed walked past his family and took me to the kitchen. Xav was there, with Will, one of the brothers I'd never met so well, they were checking out the monitors that had been installed on the kitchen counter.
"He went in by himself" Will said. He ran some CCTV coverage from the gate to the cable car complex. "No sign of anyone else."
''Sky, why are you here tonight?'' Xav moved towards me, then looked at my feet. ''Sheesh, Zed, didn't you notice her feet bleeding? Put him in the chair."
Zed hugged me as Xav took off what was left of my shoes. He closed his eyes and placed his palm on my foot. I immediately felt a tingling sensation like being pricked by a needle and then the pain as Xav healed me slowly disappeared.
Victor drops his gun on the table and pulls out the news he just heard from Zed. ''Will, Xav, there's something that our younger brother forgot to mention.''
Trace shook her head. ''Yes, he's his soul mate.''
Xav's touch was pinched for a moment, the jolt of the energy flow was a little chaotic, like his Xav was startled then he returned to healing.
Will whistled.He's not kidding right?"
"That's what he said." Trace glanced at her father, looking for confirmation, but her father simply nodded.
''Well, where do you know.'' Will grinned at me, his happiness sincere. ''Have an older sister, Sky?''
Zed smiled at her with gratitude. "Not that he knowsbut we'll try to find out for you." Then gently rubbed my head.
"Don't forget all of us," Trace said, her smile slightly forced. "Some of us are running out of time."
Zed's father patted his son's shoulder for a moment. ''Patience, Son. You'll find him.''
''You walk here alone?'' Zed asked gently as the healing was going on. "Why?"
''I need help, '' I whispered, hoping I could hide in his chest and disappear. He was so warm and I was so cold. ''I need you.''
Trace and Victor are still suspicious of my strange arrival. I could feel a wave of emotions flowing from them. My God, my power has been activated again. Here, in the homes of these Savants, the ability to see people from their feelings reappears.
"I want your brothers to know that I'm telling the truth." Now I don't have to open my eyes to realize where everyone is.
The two older Benedict stood protectively near the door to another part of the house. Their father's emotions were mixed up, worried about me, and confused. Will leaned against the counter, shining with a cheerful spring green color.
Xav was concentrating on healing my legs, his presence giving off a cool blue concentration. And Zed, she was shining gold with a feeling of love and purple signifying desperation to do something so she could help me.
"You don't think I'm here because someone sent me to hurt you, do you?'' I muttered, rubbing my cheeks into her t-shirt.... Hehehe, the aroma is delicious and win.
"No, honey," she answered, stroking my hair.
"Your father said I could come."
''I know.''
Zed's father picked up the phone lying on the table. "How many phone numbers?" She asked.
I realized I had forgotten all about my parents. "They don't know I'm gone."
''It's better to wake them up to tell them the girl's safe than to let them find your empty, worried bed and then urgently look for you.''
Zed dialed the number and Zed's father had a brief conversation with Simon. I know they want to jump in the car and pick me up right now, but I don't want that after coming all the way here.
"I want to stay" I whispered. Then I found a stronger voice. ''I want to stay here.''
Father Zed glanced at me and nodded. ''Yes, Simon, he's fine, a little cold but we're looking after him. He was sure he wanted to stay. Why not come and pick her up after breakfast? There is no point in going out in the middle of the night when there is no need..... Yeah, I'll do.'' He put the phone back. ''He will drive in the morning. He said that you should rest and not worry.''
''Will I be punished again?"
Zed ruffled the hair behind my neck.
"Your father didn't mention that." Zed's father smiled.
''I'm not sure" I said.
''Until you are fifty, '' said Zed.
Xav took off my leg. ''I've done what I can for your soul mate Zed.'' He used the term with pleasure. ''He needs to stay warm and sleep now. The wound is healed enough.''
''Thank you.'' Zed raised me in bridal style. "I'll put it on my bed for the night. I'll lend you some dry sleepwear.''
°°°
Comfortable and warm under Zed's blanket, I don't feel sleepy. He was sitting in a chair by the window, a guitar in his hand, playing some songs that calmed me down.
Karla's mother Zed was a little raving about me being in Zed's room but when it was clear she wouldn't let me out of Zed's sight, her mother gave up, she trusted us to behave well. Zed's mother was worried about me because she was both with her son Zed who was so.
Zed leaned his forehead against his mother's forehead, a gesture that was so touching I thought seeing how much taller Zed was than his mother. ''Tell me what you see?. I have dropped my shield.''
Mother Zed sighed. ''Mom saw you standing guard over Sky and behaving like a true and perfect man."
''That's fine.'' He winked at me. ''Sometimes having a mother who sees the future is a blessing.'' she said After Mother Zed came out.
Now that I'm looking at her framed by the night sky, I think I've never seen anything more perfect.
"I love you, Zed," I said gently. "A. I don't have to wait to sort out my memories."
He stopped playing. ''It's fine now.'' He cleared his throat. ''This is the first time you have told me directly like this.''
''I told you before I'm sure I already."
''No, you've been hinting but you never said it just like that.''
''I know, A. I-I love you, I mean. I'm a little shy so I don't say it easily.''
''Little shy? Sky, you may be the shyest person I've ever met in the world."
''I'm sorry.''
He came and sat on the edge of the bed. ''Don't. That's part of what I like about you. You never thought anyone would like you and have a vague expression of surprise when we all care about you. That's cute and sweet.'' He patted the tip of my nose.
"I don't want to be sweet."
"I know you want to be taken seriously." His expression was serious but his eyes laughed. "And I-I swear."
"You lied."
"You don't believe me?"
I shook my head. "I can read emotions, you know."
He pulled the hair out of my forehead. ''I may not have a poker face but I can't believe I'm that easy to guess."
''You don't understand. This is my strength, I can really read what you feel. My power is open.''
He sat back down, his color turning into a flustered light purple. I could see her processing what I said, her emotions moving to the warm color of her love for me as she accepted it. ''It's okay then, so you know that when I say I love you, I really mean it. You know that you are my soul mate.''
"Yes. But I also know if you're lying to me, as well as about other things. People had a sly yellow-colored aura when they said a lie.''
''Oh, well, that's not fair.''
"You can see the future."
"Not all the time and not so much with you right now."
I smiled sleepily. "Then you better watch your steps when you're with me."
He rubbed the back of his hand on my cheek. ''You're enjoying the benefits when I can't what's in front of you huh?"
''Yeah, I'm in front of you right now, whatever you say here I know."
"Gosh, this isn't fair at all." He pushed me slowly and lay down next to me. ''When did you find your strength?''
"In warehouse. That's how I knew that you didn't hurt me even though my brain told me that you had hurt me.''I paused for a moment, the picture was still very clear. ''Are you sure I never shot you even by pretending like a fake knife?''
He groans. ''Don't remind me of that. And yes, I'm sure. That's not something I might forget now, is it?''
"I'm crazy, Zed." There, I admit it.
''He ''e. And I'm crazy too.because of you." Then Zed hugged me and kissed me softly on the forehead and said it was time to go to sleep and he rubbed my hair until I was asleep while hiding my face in his chest.
