Chapter 32: Out of town

After leaving the Adventurers Guild, Riyan got into the car with Kamila.

“It will take quite a long time to get to the defensive wall. So, I'll explain to you about monsters,” tell Kamila.

"Wait-Wait..the defensive wall?" shock Riyan looked at Kamila with her eyebrows raised.

"The city is surrounded by a great wall. It prevented the monsters from entering and made it harder for the Vampires to sneak inside. There is also a powerful magic barrier that protects the city from outside magic attacks." Kamila explained.

"I understand... By the way, I've been wanting to ask this for a long time, but...where did these monsters and Vampires come from?" ask Riyan.

"Vampires have been around since ancient times. There are records that show that Vampires have existed even before humans. As for monsters, this may come as a surprise, but we believe that they came from another world, just like you."

"Seriously?" Riyan was stunned by this new information.

"Yes. Monsters didn't exist until a thousand years ago. They suddenly appeared and started terrorizing the world. They don't care if you're human or a Vampire, they'll attack anything in sight."

"No matter how many monsters we kill, they seem to keep appearing. Even though the current number of monsters is much lower than it was a thousand years ago, we can't get rid of them completely."

"However, it's not like there's nothing good about the appearance of the monster. They give us Mana's core."

"Where's core? Let me guess, it's something that monsters leave behind after they're killed, and it contains mana in it" Riyan said, remember all the games he played in the past when he was a kid.

"Yes, that's right. This Mana Core is very useful to us, as it can be used to make potions and artifacts."

Moments later, Kamila parked her car in a special area for Adventurers who were planning to leave the city.

"So this is a defensive wall... It's so big..." Riyan muttered as he looked up to look at the top of the wall.

"How high is this wall?" Ryan asked a moment later.

"More than 1,000 meters."

"Wear this ring." Kamila suddenly handed him a black ring.

After wearing it on his right ring finger, Riyan asked, "Is this an artifact?"

"Yes, and this will protect you if I can't" Kamila said calmly.

The two of them approached the gate on the defensive wall, where several guards with heavy firearms stood. One of them raised his hand and said,

"Show me your identity card."

"Show her your Adventurer's License" Kamila told Riyan as she took her own card.

The guards checked the Riyan card first.

"An F rank adventurer? And you're going out with just the two of you?" The guard looked at them with raised eyebrows.

Although there was no regulation on how many people were required to leave the city, most F rank Adventurers only left the city if there were at least four people.

"I'm saying this for your own good, but you might have to come back after you have more people. Outside is extremely dangerous, and the number of monsters roaming around has increased significantly over the past few days." The guard said, unaware of the Kamila Adventurer Ranking.

"Thank you for your concern, but we'll be fine." Kamila handed the Adventurers License to him the next moment.

"Rank S?!" The guard was in disbelief as he looked at Kamila's Adventurer License.

Since it had been many years since Kamila left the city for the last time, it was not strange for the guards there not to recognize her.

"Camila... You're Saintess!" The guard immediately recognized her after seeing her name.

"Excuse my rudeness just now, Saintess. If it was you, I have no doubt that everything would be fine." The guard quickly returned their Adventurer License and took a step back.

"Don't worry about that" Kamila said indifferently.

"If you may know, why did you leave town? And how long are you guys gonna be gone?" The guard then asked.

"We're going to do a monster hunt. We have to go back tonight."

"I understand. Enjoy it out there."

The guard saluted them as they walked through the thick city walls.

"What's that...?" Riyan's eyes widened in surprise after seeing the scene outside the city walls.

Unlike the bright and colorful scenery within the city that could be seen all day, the scenery outside the city was the opposite, being quiet and desolate without any green plants in sight.

Riyan thought he had been transported to another world again after leaving the city for the first time.

"What's going on here? It's like there's been a nuclear war."

"This was the result of fighting monsters for a thousand years. What do you expect?" kamila smiled faintly.

"I don't know what I was expecting, but this is just crazy."

"Welcome to our world." Kamila said as she started walking forward.

Riyan followed him from behind and looked around nervously.

"S-Ten km?! Don't tell me we're gonna walk?!" startled Riyan.

"Of course not. We can rent a vehicle at the border of the green zone." .

And he continued, "There are three different safe zones within this 10 km perimeter. The green zone is about one km long starting from the city walls. Inside this zone, there is almost no risk of us meeting monsters. Once the green zone is the orange zone."

"The "orange zone is about four km after the green zone. Guards and Adventurers patrolling this zone were much less than the green zone, so there was a higher chance of encountering monsters, but it was still a relatively safe area."

"The last zone is the red zone. Although there are still people patrolling this area, it's not enough to keep it completely safe, so there's a chance we'll encounter monsters there."

"As for areas outside the safe zone... We call it Wilderness."

"What about other cities?" Ryan suddenly asked.

"Most of them are in the same situation."

"Oh, so..."

About ten minutes later, Riyan could see a building in the distance, and it looked like a car dealership with many vehicles present there.

Once they arrived at this place, one of the workers there approached them.

"Do you want to rent a car?"

"Yes, and I want it for a whole week." Kamila nodded.

"What kind of vehicle do you want to rent?"

"Motorcycle."

"I understand. Please, follow me. I'll show you everything we have."

Kamila and Riyan followed the worker to the back of the building, where more than 20 motorcycles were available.

"I'll take this one." Kamila pointed to a red sport bike.

"A good choice. It's the best we have now. It costs 1,000 Yor per day, but we don't bear the damage done, so you have to be careful in using it."

Kamila suddenly took out her Adventurer License and showed it to the man.

"An adventurer rank S!" The man was speechless.

After a moment of silence, he gasped from his confusion and said with a stiff smile, "Since you are a Rank S Adventurer, you can borrow a vehicle for as long as you want at no cost! Thank you for trusting us!"

After retrieving her identity card, Kamila jumped on the bike and said to Riyan,

"Get it."

Riyan gulped nervously before putting on the helmet and sitting right behind him.

'I think something's wrong? Why am I in the back? It's weird!' inner Riyan who felt awkward.

After putting on her helmet, Kamila started the engine.

"Hold it."

"Whoa!" Riyan shouted out loudly as the motor suddenly started darting forward, and he instinctively hugged Kamila.

'Very soft!' riyan thought as she accidentally grabbed something very soft ...

"If you don't move your hands from there, I'll throw you and let the monsters party with you!" kamila said in a cold tone..

"M-Sorry!" Riyan quickly realized what he was touching and immediately pulled his hand.

A few minutes later, they reached the end of the red zone.

"Alright, get down." said Kamila.

"Have you arrived?"

"Since we're only going to hunt F rank monsters, we don't need to go any further."

After the two of them got off the motorcycle, Kamila parked the motorbike at one of the guard posts there.

"Are you not afraid someone will steal it?" Riyan inevitably asked, Kamila did not even bother to secure it.

"All the vehicles here are marked with magic and are not allowed to be taken inside the city. Even if they managed to smuggle it into the city, they would not be able to legally sell it. It's not worth the amount you get out of it."

"I understand... That's good to hear, I guess."

"Let's go. Stay alert and don't leave my side until I say so. We're entering the real Wilderness zone."

Riyan nodded and followed Kamila into the Wilderness.
