A bright blue sky above an upscale hospital that was on the outskirts of the city. The leaves of the tree swayed gently, dancing in the cold morning breeze. A black luxury car stopped in front of the main entrance. A middle-aged man with gray hair, looking weak, supported by two personal assistants. They entered the spacious hospital lobby with a brilliant marble floor that reflected the light of the morning sun.
“Pak Handoko! How is he today?” greet Dr. Rudi, with a warm smile. The look on his face showed concern, but his eyes, sharp and focused.
Handoko looked over, her face pale. “Still the same, Doc. No change.” his voice is hoarse, full of sadness.
A beautiful woman in her 40s, in a flight attendant uniform, walked over. He is Lestari, Handoko's ex-wife and also has a special relationship with Rudi. Lestari's expression was mixed, there were worries, there was hope, and there was something else that was difficult to define.
“Good morning, Doctor Rudi,” greet Lestari in a soft but slightly awkward voice.
Rudi nodded. “Good morning, Lestari. How are you?”
“Good. I just hope Handoko gets well soon.” He answered while glancing at Handoko.
Rudi clenched his hand, recalling the past they had shared. "Let's talk in my room." He leads the way.
In a quiet room, with a beautiful garden view outside the window, Rudi sat in front of Handoko and Lestari. A sophisticated machine seemed to be on the side of the room. It was Meditech, the AI that had changed Rudi's career.
“I will use Meditech to help Mr. Handoko. This may be the last solution we can try,” Rudi said in his heart.
Process starts. Meditech works, with flashing lights and rhythmic beep-beep sounds. Suddenly, the machine rang loudly and the screen displayed shocking information.
Handoko, with wide eyes, pointed to the screen, “What.... what does all this mean?”
Rudi looked surprised. The data shows that Handoko has actually been poisoned. Lestari screamed, surprised.
“Who did this to you?!” asked Rudi in a high tone.
Handoko shook her head, confused. Lestari, with a pale face, clutched Handoko, “Who can be so evil?”
Rudi took a quick step. He ordered some further tests. With the help of MediTech, they managed to find an antidote for the poison.
A few days passed, Handoko began to show signs of improvement. Lestari, who was always beside him, looked at Rudi with gratitude.
In the silence of the night, under the dim moonlight, Lestari approached Rudi in the hospital garden. The leaves fall off, adding to the atmosphere of silence.
“Rudi, thank you,” he said in a vibrating voice, “But, who did this?”
Rudi took a deep breath, “I don't know. I can only help heal him.”
As the night approached, the moonlight began to reflect gently on the surface of the pool in the garden behind Rudi's house. The breeze of the wind breathes out the scent of blooming flowers, creating a peaceful and slightly melancholic feel. Amidst that calmness, the ringing of Rudi's house bell rang, breaking the silence.
With quick steps, Rudi opened the door and found Lestari standing with teary eyes. His face looked gloomy, as if carrying heavy news.
"Congratulations? What's up?" asked Rudi, with a frown on his forehead. Lestari took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down.
"Rudi, I. I came to tell you something," he said in a bitter voice.
Rudi pulled Lestari in, and the two sat by the pool, under the beautiful moonlight. The rustling of the water flowed calm, but the atmosphere between them was tense.
Rudi fell silent, his expression unreadable. He stared at the glittering surface of the water, looking for the right words to respond.
"Lestari, are you sure of your decision?" ask her in a soft tone.
Lestari nodded, "After all that has happened, I feel this is the best thing. Handoko needs me, and I feel like I should be by her side, at least for now."
Rudi sighed, his eyes misty. He stood up, walking a few steps away, as if trying to digest what he had just heard. Then, he turned to face Lestari, "I understand, Lestari. I wish you and Handoko the best."
Lestari stood up, her eyes looking at Rudi with emotion. In an instant, he approached Rudi, grabbed his face and kissed her feelingly. The kiss was full of love, sadness, and separation. The two shared a short, deep moment before Lestari finally let go of her kiss.
"Thank you, Rudi," whispered Lestari with tears streaming down her cheeks. "Thank you for all our wonderful memories. I hope we're always happy with each other's choices."
Rudi smiled sadly, "Always happy, Lestari."
Without realizing it, the warmth of Lestari's lips made Rudi lulled. A feeling that has long been hidden is back. Slowly, his hand crept behind Lestari's waist, pulling her closer. The originally short kiss became deeper, more meaningful. Rudi replied with the same intensity, even more.
As Lestari's lips touched Rudi's neck, an electric wave crept within her. Despite the efforts to remain substantial and support Lestari's decision, emotions rippled from within Rudi. He is not ready to lose Lestari just like that, especially after everything they have been through together.
Moments feel like forever. Rudi, without a second thought, responded with the same intensity, replying to Lestari's kiss. Their hands are twisted together, seeking comfort in close embrace. Both of them were immersed in an outburst of emotions, letting the feelings that had been pent up dominate.
After a few seconds that felt like a clock, the two finally released a kiss, with breathless breathing and eyes that looked deeply.
When Lestari was about to catch her breath, Rudi's instincts ambushed. His hand quickly coiled around Lestari's waist, pulling her closer. With her eyes still closed, she returned Lestari's kiss, letting the feelings that had been buried overflow.
The cool air of the night became a silent witness to the meeting of two hearts filled with confusion and longing. After what felt like forever, Rudi let go of her kiss, looking at Lestari's eyes that exuded clarity and fragility.
“Lestari...” whispered Rudi with a wheezing breath.
“I... I'm sorry, Rudi,” muttered Lestari, feeling her heartbeat pounding. “This wasn't my plan. But my heart..”
Lestari gasped, she did not expect Rudi to reply so warmly. But, in those moments, all their confusion and doubt vanished. They are immersed in the wonderful memories they once shared.
After a while, the two let go of each other. Their eyes looked at each other, looking for answers from what had just happened. Their breaths were wheezing, their faces flushed red, both of them were silent, looking for words.
"Lestari" whispered Rudi, "me..."
But Lestari put her index finger on Rudi's lips, stopping him. "Shh. we don't need to talk now" he said softly.
With teary eyes, Lestari added, "I know, we both have a lot of unresolved questions and feelings. But right now, let's appreciate this moment. A moment in which we both, albeit briefly, re-experience our fond memories."
Rudi nodded slowly, "I understand, Lestari. Just, I want you to know that this feeling, the feeling we just shared, is always inside me."
Lestari smiled weakly, "And inside me too, Rudi. But, maybe it's not time yet."
Lestari walks slowly away from Rudi's house, leaving behind many memories and questions about what is really in each other's hearts. A chapter has ended, but their story still continues, each with their own path.
