Chapters 21. The Awakened Question
In the midst of a festive feast, where everyone can be happy without worrying about anything out there, Dyze goes to a quiet place after eating the dishes served; venison burned in the right temperature remains the best for him.
The roof of the Wood Elf Elder's house was his goal. Looking at the night sky filled with a sea of stars always made him feel calm. Regardless of the surroundings, Dyze only let out a short sigh when he realized Chronoa had taken a sitting position next to him.
“What? Why do you look unhappy when I come?”
Without turning his head towards Chronoa, Dyze simply shrugged her shoulders, as if to say: “No, that's okay.”
Ignoring that, Chronoa also looked at the sky with Dyze, curious, asking all the burdens of his mind so far.
“Hey.. Why do you keep looking at the sky every night?”
… There was no answer, Chronoa turned his head and tried to ask again, but he stopped as Dyze moved his mouth.
“Why..yes? I don't know.. I don't know myself.”
He says it with my eyes, making Chronoa think Dyze has bad memories that he doesn't even want to remember.
Feeling guilty, Chronoa diverted the conversation by asking questions in his mind.
“B-so yes? .. What is Life Energy? You mentioned it in certain conditions.”
Chronoa looked at Dyze, waiting for an answer. Without giving a special response, Dyze replied:
“Energy of life, I will briefly explain to you.”
Chronoa became dumbfounded upon hearing Dyze's explanation.
The energy of life according to Dyze's explanation itself is age. Right, age. Life energy is not owned by all beings, only certain races have it from the beginning, such as the race of Gods, Angels, Devils who have lived thousands of years also allow to have Life Energy.
This life energy can also be a payment for using a Skill; a monstrous and amazing ability that can destroy, create, and support more powerful than magic. That meant that every Dyze used a skill while fighting, he happily and eagerly burned his own lifespan.
“..What..? Doesn't that mean you're burning your own age?!”
Looking at the emotion-brought Chronoa, Dyze just shrugged her shoulders.
“As long as it's fun and I like it, why not?”
Dyze's answer leaves Chronoa at a loss for words. He took a breath to stabilize his emotions. When he calmed down, he asked:
“That time, I activated the skill. But my body doesn't limp like running out of mana or whatever it is, what exactly happened?”
Chronoa heard the word “Oh” come out of his mouth.
“Maybe that time was because you accidentally activated it with your own age.”
“..Huh?”
Dyze's sentence left Chronoa confused.
“Does that mean I have Life Energy? A human like me?”
Dyze heard that knocking on his forehead slowly.
“It's not so, stupid. Life energy and lifespan are something different, we Gods have no age. Life energy is like age, but not in the real sense.”
Chronoa tilted his head like a fool.
“Ck, for example. Don't you feel like there's been a significant change in your body?”
“Hah? There aren't.. Kok.”
Chronoa fell silent, he remembered the words of Eiria who said her height had changed.
Looking at the Chronoa facial expression that had found the answer, Dyze spoke up:
“Yes. At first Eiria's height with you was neck-high, but now, she only reached your shoulders.”
Chronoa was confused, he looked at Dyze and asked her.
“Why can?”
Dyze looked at the sky while answering:
“That's because of your age that was cut off when using the skill. That's the difference between Age and Life Energy, if the lifespan consumed, your growth will be very rapid, and your lifespan will get shorter and faster. Conversely, Life Energy does not have any impact on your body, but if it runs out then your soul will be destroyed instantly and make your body like an empty shell.”
Chronoa shuddered when he heard it.
“Isn't that too dangerous?”
Dyze only shook his head in a sign of disapproval.
“Different by age, Life Energy can add or refill if qualified under certain conditions. For example, a strong desire to stay alive.”
“That's it?”
“Not really, enjoying something you love can also add Life Energy.”
Chronoa's expression changed, he seemed to understand what Dyze meant.
“Ugh, I now know why you enjoyed it so much.”
Chronoa shook his head, preparing to ask the next question.
“How about Firmament Deity?”
After a long silence, Dyze smiled at him, a smile that made Chronoa feel stunned for the first time.
“What? You believe in my fairy tale? Haha, I'll tell you what you want. It's a great place, I have a lot of great memories there. When compared to Neiphr, I cannot measure how far the difference is. The place is indeed above the sky anyway but in a different dimension to Neiphr, therefore we do not fall if stepping on the clouds.”
Dyze also explained that in Firmament Deity there are 13 Gods, and he is the strongest among the other gods. 13 The gods were divided into 2 camps, Dyze himself did not know what each camp was called, he named it as the Dark Fort and the Light Fort.
He had been king and occupied the strongest throne in the stronghold of darkness for hundreds of thousands of years and 6 gods in the stronghold of darkness under his control, but despite being king, he felt bored.
This boredom has tormented him for thousands of years, although it is sometimes treated when sparing fights against a God of doom other than himself—Zavist, arguably he is the second strongest person in Firmament Deity.
The boredom continued to gnaw at his soul, until the moment he was traveling around Firmament Deity alone without the knowledge of a single angel guarding him. After a long while he wandered around aimlessly, he crashed into the barrier. The invisible barrier constrained the stronghold of light and the stronghold of darkness, none of them could pass through.
At that moment Dyze thought of his idle intentions, he wanted to see the activities of the light fortress that he had never seen before. He manipulated the barrier with his power in order to escape. After trying it out for a while, he succeeded, despite taking time to understand it.
As he passed through the barrier he traced the vast territory of the stronghold of light, unlike the stronghold of darkness that contained various thrones and large buildings, the stronghold of light was not visible to any throne there.
After walking for a long time without finding anything, he finally found something. A large circular table, the table contained 5 light fortress gods sitting around it. They were seen laughing together and the atmosphere was very much different from the dark fortress who looked at the strength and stiffness of jokes.
Dyze was initially hesitant to step up, but not doubting his strength, Dyze stepped closer to them. Dyze was ready to fight, but he was looked at strangely by them.
Dyze thought he would definitely not be welcomed, as anyone who was in the light would hate anything that was in the dark.
But he was wrong, one of them called him, invited him to come closer, gathered with them. Raizel, who summoned Dyze to gather with them, now Raizel, the god of lightning, becomes his best friend.
Dyze, who has not laughed for thousands of years, is now laughing for the first time.
Very easily, they accepted Dyze, they were not wary of Dyze as an enemy, whereas they knew in front of them was the strongest God, not feeling fear, not fear, they were enthusiastic to ask Dyze what it was like to be the strongest.
Dyze replied he felt relieved and sad at the same time, relieved to have achieved his goal, sad to not be able to do something that could comfort him anymore. But now that the feeling had completely disappeared, Dyze felt comfortable living with the Gods in the stronghold of light that was now her friend.
He also described the name of the god of the camp of light who was his friend in detail along with their abilities that he knew.
-> Raizel, The God of Lightning.
He was one of the gods of the camp of light who became a close friend of Dyze. Like his title he had power over lightning, there was nothing in the stronghold of light that could match his speed except the Goddess of Time.
-> Chloe, The Goddess of Time.
This goddess rarely spoke directly to Dyze, but she felt that the goddess often noticed him. The ability of the Time Goddess that Dyze knew was that she was able to manipulate time to her will, she was also able to even go to the past if she wanted to.
“Chloe.?”
Chronoa held his chin as if he was no stranger to the name, Dyze just looked at him in confusion then continued on.
-> Diana, The Arrow Goddess.
This goddess often interacts with Dyze, she also has a beautiful stature, although not as beautiful and graceful as Chloe. In accordance with her title, Diana is very reliable in wearing a bow or in terms of archery.
Diana had a favorite bow made from her own soul, which was named Arthemis. Diana also told Dyze that if she could fire Arthemis with half her full power at the Neiphr, everything inside the Neiphr would be destroyed instantly.
Chronoa was goosebumps when he heard it, for so easily could the god goddess destroy Neiphr if they wanted to.
-> Argos, The Weather God.
This god was also familiar with Dyze, he could control and manipulate the weather in Neiphr as well as Firmament Deity at will. For his fighting ability Dyze doesn't really know about it. But clearly besides being able to manipulate the weather, he also had power over the control of nature.
-> Eirene, The Goddess of Fortune.
This goddess was so aggressive towards Dyze, making her often quarrel with the usually calm Chloe.
Eirene had never been unlucky in her life, except once, other than that she had never experienced any misfortune. Eirene also has the highest intelligence than any other goddess, in the fight she uses her luck to launch attacks that look impossible, or avoid deadly magic. But she has a natural enemy, her luck can be blocked by the Goddess Kesialan— and her twin sister, Erina.
“Woah.. Didn't think the Goddess of Fortune really existed.”
Chronoa muttered in a soft voice. Realizing that there are still 1 question left in his head, Chronoa asked Dyze:
“K-then how can you be in Neiphr?”
Chronoa asked nervously as he himself was aware that this was a sensitive, if not careful question perhaps Dyze would be offended.
Hearing Dyze sigh, Chronoa glanced at him. He looked towards the full moon, his gaze sharp and intense, his hands clenched tightly until his veins were visible. The atmosphere around him changed drastically, making Chronoa shiver as the night wind suddenly felt like it was freezing him.
He moved his mouth and spoke heavily, his gaze getting sharper to the point that a flash of red light appeared in his eyes.
“That time.. Where it all started.”
