Manhattan, New York City.
The trip to Manhattan from Jakarta made Jana's body crumble. Coupled with the welcome of cold air that pierced his bones, even though his clothes were already layered.
Two days in Manhattan, Jana fell ill. Fever and flu. His whole body was in pain.
Joshua's residence is not big. Tends to be narrow. There is only one room, one bathroom, and one room that is divided into two functions, namely, the kitchen and living room.
Either Joshua rented it or the apartment was his. Joshua never said anything to her.
"Oh, put my nose down." Jana rubs her nose to reduce the itching that hit. He had been in a thick blanket since this morning, though his stomach had begun to wriggle to fill.
Joshua went nowhere. There was no food at all in the freezer, nor did Joshua leave any money. After all, Jana was confused about buying food where. He has only been there for two days and does not know the direction.
Joshua's mobile number has changed local numbers, and Jana has not had time to save her husband's number. Now Jana is confused, while her stomach begins to be unable to compromise. He's hungry. Cold air makes a person hungry.
There was nothing Jana could do but wait for Joshua to come home. However, Joshua had been gone for hours, and there was no sign of him showing his nose.
Waiting, and waiting, until Joshua just came in the afternoon, carrying two boxes of fried noodles with seafood mixture. From the box, Jana could see there was Mandarin writing.
"Sorry, yeah, I had a lot of business. You're so hungry, aren't you?" joshua said as the two sat down at a small dining area near the kitchen.
Do not be asked how tortured Jana held hunger from morning, especially with the condition of his body that is sick. However, what came out of Jana's mouth was of course different. He replied that he was okay.
Jana noticed, Joshua's face looked tense. Not as happy as when I just set foot in Manhattan two days ago. There may be problems with inheritance and so on. However, Jana did not dare to ask Joshua.
"You sick?" ask Joshua.
"Fever only. No papa, I'm."
Joshua nodded. "No need to see a doctor, right?" tanyanya.
"I don't think so."
"I don't have any money."
Jana swallowed her saliva heavily. "Yes, Baby. I don't need to go to the doctor." Spend the rest of the noodles in the food box even though the taste is not too suitable on the tongue because of the lack of seasoning.
Then a moment of silence. Joshua was quieter. It looks like he is in quite a serious trouble. Jana noticed his movements tidied up the table, to throw the food box into the trash.
"I'm going out again. There's something I haven't finished dealing with."
"Mmm .. So, you came home just to give me food?"
"One of them" Joshua said, commenting on a faint smile. "I also have to take something."
"Owh." That's all that came out of Jana's mouth. Joshua went into their room and came out with a large envelope that had no idea what it was.
Jana gasped when Joshua suddenly kissed her lips briefly before finally the seam came out. Jana stroked her lips softly. The fur of the romans stood. The cold body feels warm even without a heating machine.
Jana's stomach is no longer wrapped around. Now, there is only boredom that stinks him. Because he could do nothing but wait for Joshua to come home, or sleep.
Fetal is busy. Lots of pedestrians and vehicles. The sound of police car sirens roared from a distance. The sound of car horns interlocking filled the area.
By nightfall, Joshua was not home. Jana who has been sleeping a lot, has not been able to close her eyes. His head was dizzy because he did not know what to do.
"Just walk around, yeah, outside." Jana mutters.
His body is better. Only the taste of linu that slightly attacked his joints. Jana grabbed a thick sweater hanging behind the door and then coated the jacket she had worn before.
Not forgetting to bring the keys to the apartment, Jana went out and traced a long hallway that had room doors on the right or left.
There is no elevator in the building. Strange enough for an apartment classmate in Manhattan, despite the seedy look.
Ah-Jana doesn't want to bother with all that. The important thing is now that he can enjoy the air outside the apartment and remove the dizziness on his head.
Everyone who passed Jana did not give her a smile. Unlike the Indonesian people who are so friendly, even to unknown people though.
Jana sat on a long bench on the broad sidewalk, looking around her. There were some people passing by while chewing food and listening to music through headphones. Everyone who passed him, Jana count maybe only once there are people who give him a smile. It was also just an old man who seemed to be a beggar.
But, it's okay. Jana felt her heart warm when there was a person who sincerely smiled at her.
How quaint. For just two days in Manhattan, he missed the friendly greetings of his neighbors every day. Even he misses his mother's quarrel with Yu Prapti which almost every day happens. And the look on Kang Soleh's bengong face, the greengrocer who had to listen to the debate between the two middle-aged women.
Suddenly, Jana missed all that. A sense of loneliness attacks his heart. No one can talk or just talk lightly. I really feel alone in this city.
"Hey, Sweety, are you alone?"
The sound of exclamations and the loudness of some men made Jana gasp. The dream was broken. He looked towards the original sound and was surprised to see three black men approaching him.
The three let each other out a laugh while saying words in English that Jana could not understand. Because their accent sounds different to most English.
"Come join us, Sweety," said one of the men who had a scar on his right cheek.
Jana understood what the man was saying. Still wanting to be polite, Jana just smiled and shook her palms.
Feeling rejected, the three get closer to Jana and surround the girl.
"I just saw her for the first time."
"I am too."
"Hey, do you speak English?"
Jana shakes. He felt that they were planning to be evil to him. He had heard the three suspected that he was new to this area that they had just seen.
Jana's chest is pounding. He wanted to stand up and run away, however, his legs felt heavy.
"Hey, don't bother the girl. Go ye!"
