The first day of the preparation course for the sex exam made Jana's head want to explode. He must return to learn the subject matter in High School, in order to graduate later with good grades.
All that Jana has to go through because she wants to get a job in this country. He wanted to help ease Joshua's burden of meeting their daily needs.
Fortunately, Jana can get a green card easily. He should have been able to work, however, only small or odd jobs were not as successful. Jana wants a decent job with a decent salary.
That afternoon the air was a little warm and the sun appeared even for a little while. Jana decided to fill her stomach in the cafeteria of the building where she was undergoing the course.
Warm potato soup, baked baguette bread and a few slices of bacon. It was quite delicious, as Jana was getting used to such foods.
"Haii, can you sit here?"
Jana who was enjoying her lunch, raised her head and found an Asian girl with a sweet face and mature brown skin. He holds a plate of food and a glass of fruit juice.
"Yes, please," said Jana while commenting on a friendly smile.
"From Indonesia?" asked the girl made Jana surprised, but at the same time happy, because she could meet with relatives of one nation in the land of people.
"Yes. You too, huh?"
The girl chuckled. "Yes, I know you, I'm Mira. Just entered the course. You?"
"I'm Jana. I just got in too. Waah, it's nice to meet friends from Indonesia as well," said Jana happily.
A conversation flows between a girl named Mira and Jana. Because both are the same age, the two become familiar quickly. And coincidentally, both have the same mission. I want to get a decent job in this country.
"I am divorced from my husband. I have to support myself here. It's like living here. Males returned to Indonesia" Mira explained the situation.
"If I wanted to help my husband, anyway. It's not good every day there's no activity."
"Yes, Jan. They have to be productive. In fact, yes, the cost of living here is very expensive."
Jana nodded in agreement. "A bad time can go crazy, anyway, here," he kekeh.
"That's very true." Both of them let out laughter.
"Duh, seneng really finally got the hanging out."
"Me too" said Jana girang.
Since that meeting, Jana and Mira become familiar. From Monday to Thursday they meet at the course, even weekends they sometimes hang out together to watch movies or eat at Indonesian restaurants in Manhattan.
"You're in Melati's Mother's society, too, huh?" tanya Mira when Jana informed that there is an Indonesian festival that will be held at the Indonesian consulate general in Manhattan.
"Yes, here. After the beginning here join really, nyari-nyari temen who live here to find a new atmosphere."
"I've been there, anyway. But not strong."
Jana chuckles. "Yes, I know, really, why."
"Duh, their circle didn't come in on me."
"I didn't go in either, just, yeah, it's gone. Going out is not good."
Mira shakes. "Their mouth is horrified, you know."
Jana agrees with Mira's words. A group of women who are hungry for popularity.
"But, the average Indonesian Mothers here are rich, anyway, Jan."
"Yes, huh?"
Mira nodded. "They, well, rich make gangs that, loh, a kind of socialite. Yeah, arisan, hanging out, cooking shows. But, the point is, want to show off the goods branded doang," kekehnya.
"Oh, I didn't go in that way, Mir. I don't have a lot of money rich in them."
Mira shook her hands while sipping the juice in her glass. "Many don't have a lot of money, either, they. But, imposed. You don't want to lose to each other."
"Oh, huh?"
"Oh, Ma'am Yola." Jana.
"Well, that, that Yola, really. She's her husband's doctor, yeah. Every meeting with Melati's gang, his clothes are rich artists, that's." Mira gave a pause to her story. "Eh, no, her husband's just a lackey in the hospital."
"Owalaaah," muttered Jana. Apparently so the story. Behind the good looks, there is something forced. "They can get branded goods, where's the money, Mir?"
Mira chuckles. "There are also distributors of his goods, Indonesians as well. KW 17," he continued.
"Seriously?"
"The item's KW, Jan."
Jana nodded. Apparently the lives of Indonesians here are quite toxic.
"Not everything, anyway, Jan. There are good ones too, though. But, usually the old."
Jana grimaced while scratching her head. Much he did not know about the ins and outs of the surrounding environment apparently. Fortunately, he met with Mira, who was happy to tell him important info so that Jana could filter back whatever she would do in the future.
"I'm divorced from my ex-husband because .. he's a gangster."
One day Mira told me about the most personal thing. Of course, after he and Jana were already very familiar with each other.
"Oh, huh?" jana asked with a shocked face.
"Yes. At first, he liked to wear."
"Pakes?" jana asked not understanding.
"Medicine, Jana, drugs."
"Owh." Jana nodded. "Continue?" tanyanya.
"My ex-husband, uh, really attentive, Jan. Okay, really, at first. But, after he was in PHK, he was a bit stressed. Make medicine, and then temperament.
"You get beaten up a lot?" ask Jana concerned.
Mira nodded weakly. Her sweet face turned grim. "Highly, yes, he rarely came home and turned out to be a gangster."
"Oh, I'm sorry, yeah, Mir." Jana stroked the back of Mira's hand gently, trying to give her best strength to her best friend.
Mira chuckles. "Udah, it's been a long time, really. I've moved on, you know."
A smile on Jana escapes. "Thank God, Mir. I've got someone else, like, right?" goda.
"Numbered, Jan. Haven't thought about it, anyway. From yesterday, tuh, just think of working money alone."
"Where do you work?" ask Jana.
"Yes, in small restaurants, take care of the baby, help in the laundry. That's a shackle, Jan. That's why I joined this GED, you know, so I can get a good job."
Jana nodded. Hearing Mira's story, her fate was still much luckier. Joshua was kind and didn't show any strange gurgles. Although until now Jana does not know what her husband's job is.
However, Jana believes, Joshua is not doing strange things out there.
"Jan, I want to give you a warning, nih," Mira said in a serious tone.
"What, tuh?" ask Jana curiously.
"You said you didn't know what your husband was doing. You have to be careful."
Jana frowned. "Why, Mir?"
"Who knew he also turned out to be a gangster. This is Manhattan, Jan. Strenuous. Join gangster one easy solution to survive here."
