Ash-Shiddiq His full name is Abdullah bin Uthman bin Amir bin Amru bin Ka`ab bin Sa`ad bin Taim bin Murrah bin Ka`ab bin Lu`ai bin Ghalib bin Fihr al-Ma`Qurasy at - Taimi – radhiyallahu`anhu. Met his Prophet with his grandfather Murrah bin Ka’ab bin Lu’ai. Abu Bakr is the Shahabat Rasulullah – shalallahu`alaihi was salam – who has accompanied the Prophet since the beginning of his diutus as an Apostle, he is among the people who first converted to Islam. Abu Bakr has the nicknames “ash-Shiddiq” and “Atiq”.
Some say that Abu Bakr was nicknamed “ash-Shiddiq” because when the event occurred is` mi`raj, people belied the incident, while Abu Bakr immediately confirmed.
Allah has witnessed the friendship of the Messenger of Allah with Abu Bakr in the Qur`an, which is in His word :
"If you had not helped him (Muhammad) then surely Allah had helped him (i.e.) when the unbelievers (mushrikin of Mecca) brought him out (from Mecca) while he was one of the two men when both were in cave, when he said to his friend: "Do not mourn, verily God is with us". So Allah sent down His testimony to (Muhammad) and helped him with an army that you did not see, and the Quran made the disbelievers inferior. And the word of God is high. Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise." (QS at Taubah 9:40)
`Aisha, Abu Sa’id and Ibn Abbas in interpreting this verse say: “Abu Bakr was the one who accompanied the Prophet in the cave.”
God also says :
“And those who bring the truth and justify it, they are the ones who fear.” (QS az-Zumar 39:33)
Al-Imam adz-Dzahabi after bringing this verse in his book al-Kabaa`ir, he narrated that Ja`far Shadiq said :” There is no dispute anymore that the person who comes with bringing the truth is the Prophet, the only one who confirmed it was Abu Bakr. Is there still a privilege beyond its privilege in the midst of the Shahabats?”
From Amru bin al-Ash radhiyallahu`hu, that Rasulullah sent him over the forces of Dzatus Salasil :
“I then came to him and asked “Who is the man you love the most?” he said :”Aisyah” I said : “if from a man?” he replied : “his father (Abu Bakar)” I said : “then who?” he replied: “Umar” then mentioned some men.” (HR.Bukhari and Muslim)
“Surely Allah has made me His lover, just as He made Abraham His lover. And if only I took from my people as a lover, I would make Abu Bakr a lover.”(HR. Bukhari and Muslim)
From Abu Sa`id radhiyallahu`hu, that the Prophet sat in the pulpit, then said :”Verily there was a servant who was given a choice by Allah, between being given the luxury of the world with what was at His side. So the servant chose what was by His side” and then Abu bakar wept and wept, then said :”our father and our mother as your ransom” Abu Sa`id said : “what the servant meant was the Messenger of Allah, and Abu Bakr was the one who knew best among us” the Prophet said : “Surely the one who gave me the most protection with his wealth and friendship was Abu Bakr. Suppose I could take a lover (in other history there is an extra : “other than rabb-ku”), I would take Abu Bakr as my lover. This is brotherhood in Islam. There is nothing in the mosque of a door unless it has been closed, but only the door of Abu Bakr (which is still open).”(HR. Bukhari and Muslim)
The Prophet said: “Surely Allah has sent me to all of you. But you guys instead said `you are a liar’. While Abu Bakr justifies (my teachings). He helped me with my soul and treasure. Are you guys going to leave me (by leaving) my shahabat?” The Prophet said that phrase 2 times. Since then Abu bakr has never been hurt (by any Muslim).(HR. Bukhari)
Caliphate
God has said :
“Muhammad was nothing but an apostle, indeed some apostles had passed before. If he dies or is killed you turn back (apostate)? whosoever turns back cannot harm Allah in the least, and Allah will recompense those who give thanks (QS Ali Imran: 144)
Ibn Abbas radhiyallah`anhuma said: “by Allah, as if the people did not know that Allah had sent down this verse until Abu Bakr recited it. So everyone received the verse of the Qur`an, none of them heard it but chanted.”
Said`id ibn Musayyab rahimahullah said: that Umar when it said : “For the sake of Allah, it seems I just heard the verse when it was read by Abu Bakr, who was a writer, to the point that I could not lift my legs until I was bowed to the ground when I heard Abu Bakr read them. Now I know that the prophet is dead.”
In another account of al-Bukhari, Umar said: “so the people sowed their hearts while still shedding tears. Then the Anshor people gathered around Sa`ad bin Ubadah who was in Saqifah Bani Sa`idah” they said : “From our circles (Anshor) there is a leader, as well as from among you!” so Abu Bakr, Umar and Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarroh approached them. Umar began to speak, but was soon stopped by Abu Bakr. In this case Umar said : “For the sake of Allah, all I want is to express what I think is very good. I'm afraid Abu Bakr didn't deliver it” Then Abu Bakr spoke, it turned out that he was the one who was fluent in his speech, he said: “We are the leaders, whereas you are the ministers.” Habbab bin al-Mundzir responded: “No, by Allah we will not do it, from us there is a leader and from you there is also a leader.” Abu Bakr replied: “No, we are the leaders, while you are the ministers. They (the Muhajireen) were the fairest of the Arabs, the noblest and the best of the people. Then come Umar or Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarroh.”So Umar interrupts : “Even we will pay`mu. You are our sayyid, the best among us and the most beloved of the Prophet.” Umar then held Abu Bakr's hand and followed by the crowd. Then there was a man who said : “you have killed (the right of the caliph) Sa`ad (bin Ubadah).” So Umar said : “Allah killed him.” (The History of Bukhari)
According to historical experts, Abu Bakr received goat milking services for villagers. When he was betrayed to the caliphate, a village woman said: “now Abu Bakr will no longer milk our goats.” The words were heard by Abu Bakr so he said : “no, even I will still receive the services of milking your goats. Verily I hope that the office I have held now has not changed my habits at all in the past.” Evidently, Abu Bakr kept milking their goats.
When Abu Bakr was appointed caliph, he ordered Umar to take care of the Muslim hajj. It was only in the following year that Abu Bakr performed Hajj. As for Umrah worship, he did in the month of Rajab in 12 H. He entered the city of Makkah around the time of dhuha and went straight to his house. He was accompanied by several young men who were talking to him. Then it was said to Abu Quhafah (His father Abu Bakr) : “this is your son (has come)!”
So Abu Quhafah stood up from his place. Abu Bakr hurried to tell his camel to rest. He came down from his camel when the camel had not had time to rest perfectly while saying : “wahi my father, do not you stand!” Abu Bakr embraced Abu Quhafah
and kissed his forehead. Of course Abu Quhafah wept as an overflow of happiness with the arrival of his son.
After that came several figures of Makkah city such as Attab bin Usaid, Suhail bin Amru, Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl, and al-Harith bin Hisham. They all say hello to Abu Bakr: “Assalamu`alaika o caliph of the Prophet!” they all shook Abu Bakr's hand. Then Abu Quhafah said : “wahai Atiq (nicknamed Abu Bakr), they are (the good) people. Therefore, make a good friendship with them!” Abu Bakr said : “O my father, there is no power and effort except only with the help of Allah. I have been given a very heavy burden, of course I will not have the strength to bear it except only with the help of Allah.” Then Abu Bakr said : “Will anyone complain of an act of injustice?” It turned out that no one had come to Abu Bakr to report an injustice. Everyone was flattering their leader.
Died
According to the legend, historian Abu Bakr died on Tuesday night, precisely between the time of Maghrib and Isya on the 8th of early Friday 13 H. His age when he died was 63. He intended that his body be bathed by Asma` bint Umais, his wife. He was buried next to the Prophet's tomb. Umar sholati his body between the tomb of the Prophet and the pulpit (ar-Raudhah). While the one who descended directly into the burrow is his son named Abdurrahman (bin Abi Bakr), Umar, Uthman, and Talha bin Ubaidillah.
The death of Caliph As-shiddiq caused his companions to not speak, so much sadness and who among them deserved to replace the next Caliph?
