"So, how's Doc?"
At the time, Chris and Dr. Herman is in the middle room. The old woman began to worry about her son, especially now that Chris has been living alone again.
"As before, his stomach relapsed. But it seems, the psychological factor is more severe than the physical."
The doctor sipped the tea and asked, "What's really going on?"
"He hasn't looked like that since his father left."
The mother nodded her forehead which did not really hurt. His son's problems began to make him psychosomatic as well.
"The problem with his wife."
"Chris is married?" The doctor looked surprised.
Chris' mother looked at dr. Herman, looks apologetic.
"A year ago the boy got married. Sorry for not telling you."
Dr. Herman looks unhappy. He was quite offended, feeling that he had been part of the Dieter family for decades, but this important thing, he did not know.
"Don't be angry Doc. The problem is complicated enough to tell. And I'm not sure I have the capacity to tell you. It's pretty sensitive to talk about."
Seeing his friend feeling frustrated, made the old man's anger slightly receded.
"That's it."
He then frowned, hoping to see Chris' wife who was told.
"He's not here."
The old man's forehead was wrinkled. "Keep, where is he? Her husband is sick like this."
The woman was throwing her rough breath. "He's gone."
Dr. Herman leaned his body back on the sofa, looking thoughtful. He began to make assumptions in his brain quickly.
He then asked carefully, "They're divorced?"
"Yes and no." Chris' mother twirled the cup on his lap.
Knowing that his friend was waiting for his explanation, he continued.
"The stupid boy filed for divorce with his wife and now he's sorry."
When he put his cup on the table, he looked at dr. Herman in front of him intensely.
"I'm sure the boy will never take the file to court."
Hearing the explanation, made the old man's forehead wrinkle even deeper.
"wait. You mean Chris asked for a divorce from his wife, and after his wife agreed, now even Chris who does not want a divorce? That's how you mean?"
The old woman nodded her head.
"Oh, my God!"
"Your son is a fool! I'm sorry Tita, your son may have a very high IQ, but for this one, he's a real moron!"
Chris' mother's eyes look glared. No one can say anything about his son other than himself.
Seeing the danger sign from the sight of the old woman in front of him, dr. Herman quickly shook his hands and continued, "Young man! Ordinary, young man."
Hearing the comment even made Chris' mother more sullen.
"That child is old enough to be said to be young!" Sung at.
They still continued the conversation some time later, and after making sure that Chris did not need to be on the hospital finally the doctor said goodbye.
"Just make sure she takes her medicine." Message from the doctor.
After thinking for a while, he continued. "It would be better if his wife came back. Looks like the most efficacious medicine is his wife."
Chris' mother smiled at those words. "I know doc. The boy just didn't realize it."
After delivering dr. Herman left, Chris' mother returned to her son's room.
Chris's face looked calmer than before and he was seen sleeping. However, when the old woman placed her hand on Chris' forehead, the man began to open his eyes.
"May? Still here? Dr. Herman?"
Chris' mother sits next to her son. Patently, he rubbed his son's hair black and dense.
Knowing that he did need someone else, Chris just nodded his head.
"Chris? Can we talk?"
Realizing the soft but serious tone of his mother's voice, Chris finally sat back down on his bed. He knew what his mother wanted to talk about.
The man stared at the hand on his lap. He was like a bad boy caught making a mistake.
"Yes, um."
The mother held her son's hand tightly. Sooner or later, this has to be discussed. The sooner it's finished, the better.
"Chris, you know you're separated."
Chris looked into his mother's eyes wondering, waiting.
Sighing her breath, the woman continued, "Rina came to the house about a week ago. He said you're getting a divorce."
Chris' eyes twitched. He did not expect that his wife would go that far to ensure that they would separate.
Realizing that her son was having an inner struggle, the woman continued her story.
"Rina looked confused at that moment. Mamah knew that in her heart, she actually did not want to part from you. You filed for divorce, right?"
Hearing that, makes Chris automatically want to pull his hand that is being held but his mother who had anticipated, just gripped it tighter.
"Chris, your wife loves you."
Chris closed his eyes tightly, his face looked wrinkled and in pain.
"Mamusic wrong. Rina doesn't love me. Rina-"
But his mother cut, "Chris. Look at mama."
Hearing his mother's soft voice, Chris looked into her mother's eyes.
"Tell mama now. Do you think you don't love your father anymore?"
Chris looked wondering. To be honest, he never knew his mother's feelings for his father after they separated.
"Chris, mama still loves your papah. Hugely. Till now. And see you later."
Chris' mother closed her eyes tightly as she emphasized her words. He opened his eyes again and held his son's cheek gently.
"Splitting up doesn't mean you don't love anymore."
"Why then do you part if you still love?" Indict Chris. The soul of his little boy decades ago is back again. All this time, he never asked his mother.
"Chris, you know why you asked for divorce from papah, right?"
Chris nodded his head slowly.
"There are some things in the household, which if broken then it will never be the same again. And unfortunately, your papah did the fatal thing."
"Although mama still loves your papah, but the mistake will never be forgotten."
His mother pointed at Chris' chest and pressed him gently. "Even you feel the impact, don't you?"
"Tell me, can you forget what your father has done?" His challenge.
Recalling how devastated his mother and himself were at the time, Chris shook his head slowly.
"It's better to be apart than to hurt each other. After all, in the end, our family can still be harmonious even though it is not united, right?"
His mother's words made Chris realize how much he loved his step-sisters.
"The meaning of telling this is, sometimes separation is the best way. But, it would be much better if farewell wasn't the answer."
The mother squeezed the hand of her son in her grasp.
"Now, tell mama, do you really want a separation from your wife?"
He looked at his son gently and smiled.
"Ask yourself, how much do you need your wife to be next to you? Ask yourself, is only separation the solution? Ask yourself Chris, and meditate."
Chris' mother patted his son's thighs slowly.
"Don't let regret be the only thing left in your heart. Do not let you feel what you feel on your papah, until now."
His mother's last statement, stunned Chris.
