They were supposed to meet in Brazil but they chose to go to Belgium instead, the first reason not to go to Brazil is Carnaval which was held in Rio Je Janeiro due to flash floods and landslides although they could have been to other cities that were not affected but Gerald and friendshis friend does not want.
