Dara's heart ached to hear Gaston's words as if saying he was begging for offspring to him like the women out there. But in order to keep from being prejudiced, Dara ventured to ask about Gaston's true intentions.
"Why are you talking like that?" dara asked with trembling lips as her heart began to slash with her husband's statement.
"I'm the one who wants to ask you, you should be honest. Your goal is to have children because you want to get the rights of some of my property, right? We are also married on my mother's will, not mine. And it's actually very profitable for you?"
Plaaakkk,
Dara's hand could not bear the mounting anger towards Gaston. He slapped the man without her thinking of the consequences. If only Dara did not feel indebted to Mama Gaston who had paid off her debt, Dara would never want to marry a man who did not have the manners.
Gaston opened both of his eyelids wide due to the harsh treatment of his wife, and he wanted to avenge the treatment. Gaston's hand was positioned on Dara's head and ready to grab his wife's cheek. However, instead of feeling afraid, Dara instead willingly gave her.
"Slap me as much, if you need to kill me so that I can escape this suffering. So that you are satisfied to repay me, so that all break even with the debt that was once repaid by your mother. And one more, so that you may be free from the household that torments you!"
I don't know what possessed Dara's body until she became brave at that time. Though Dara who is known as Gaston is a submissive woman who never goes against his orders, more precisely not obedient but forced to obey.
Gaston punched the sofa backrest hard as a form of anger, apparently the man still had a gap of heart to hear Dara's sentence so that he did not get back at his wife's treatment. Dara covered her face with both palms while crying.
"Be quiet, I don't like to see people crying. Especially baby! That's why I'm not ready to have a child. So don't make it!" Gaston is no less emotional than Dara. Both are now equally mired in chaos in each other's hearts. Silence is the only way they can do it.
That night the two remained silent until the morning. When the sun was fully revealed, Gaston was well dressed and prepared to sit at the dinner table. The look on his face remained the same, flat and cold. In contrast to the look of Dara's face that withered and also swollen because of crying all night.
There was no conversation between them, only the sound of the clanking of spoons interlocked with the plate to cause a loud voice. After fifteen minutes of filling each other's stomachs, Gaston now began to stand up and prepare to go to work. As usual, Dara kept faithfully carrying the bag for her husband until he got into the car. After Gaston passes with his car, Dara goes back in and goes to the kitchen to help Mak Inah.
"What's wrong, madam? Looks like madam's crying?" ask Mak Inah while together cleaning cooking utensils.
Dara shook her head with a lethargic face, her chest still felt tight so her lips were still difficult to speak. Mak Inah understands Dara's situation is not good, chooses for him and does not ask much more. Twenty minutes of silence occurred during the activity in the kitchen, until finally Dara himself broke the silence.
"Mak? How will our lives be without a child but a lot of possessions?" dara's question immediately led to the burden of her mind.
Mak Inah momentarily stopped her activities and answered Dara's question.
"I don't know what it's like to not have children, but I don't know what it's like to have a lot of possessions but not children. Because mak's not a rich lady."
One answer from Mak Inah seemed to be less satisfying Dara, so she asked again.
"I don't know everything yet, mother, all I know is that losing is very sad."
