Solo Leveling – Chapter 6

One of the hunters who died today was Mister Park, a personal friend of Mister Kim.

Exploring the double dungeon was decided by a vote involving everyone, but Kim had already erased that memory from his head after losing much of his reasoning.

Mr. Song spoke to Kim.

"I want to walk on my own accord, so can you get rid of that sword?"

Kim, of course, refused.

"How can I trust you, old man? Stop wasting time and start moving. ”

Song sighed softly under his breath and walked towards the altar. Kim pointed his sword at the older man's back and followed after.

Jin-Woo bites her lower lip while watching the two men leave.

"It's not Mr. Song's fault."

More than half of the group agreed to do it together. Just because things were going south, blaming Song for everything was too cowardly, he thought.

'But me….'

Unfortunately Jin-Woo doesn't have enough power to stop Kim here.

Kim, who is considered one of the best among the D rankers, and Seong Jin-Woo, are easily the worst of the E rankers. The difference in their strength was too obvious for him to see. Not only that, Jin-Woo even lost a leg.

If he tries to confront Kim like he is now, there is a chance that he and even Ju-Hui, who are only focused on healing him, could meet with disaster.

"D* the mn."

Jin-Woo squeezes his eyes shut. He never hated his own powerlessness as he did today.

Meanwhile, Song had climbed onto the raised altar.

Suddenly, a red flame lit up near the outer perimeter of the altar as soon as he did so. Everyone nervously swallowed their saliva and observed the situation carefully.

However, nothing happened. Only one flame lit up, and that was it.

"…?"

They waited for a while but there was no change at all. Not only Kim, but everyone became confused by this situation.

Kim quickly turns his head and talks to Jin-Woo.

"Look, Mr. Seong. This isn't? "

Jin-Woo also shakes his head.

"Even me …."

He also thought that once someone chosen as a sacrifice stepped on the altar, the third law of 'proving one's piety' would be completed.

"It's not about offering sacrifices?"

If so, then that's not necessarily bad news. If the law wasn't about sacrifice, then it meant that Master Song could still save.

Jin-Woo's expression was rather bright.

He was sweating the bucket as he tried to stand up, and the two Hunters nearby quickly lent their help.

"Please bring me closer to the altar so I can learn it."

"Mr Jin-Woo, your injuries …."

Ju-Hui also rises from her place to follow after Jin-Woo. Her skin was somewhat pale after expending too much of her magic energy.

But as she has worked so hard, Jin-Woo's blood loss is temporarily stopped and the pain she feels is reduced to a barely noticeable degree.

"I must hurry."

Ju-Hui's current condition, Kim's simmering anger, Song's injury, and the terrified Hunters – he doesn't have much time here.

Jin-Woo finally arrives at the altar with help from the other Hunters.

"Let's go up to the altar."

The two Hunters are jolted from his statement, but they trust Jin-Woo and step up. Then three more fires lit up. Soon, Jin-Woo's eyes sparkle brightly.

"It's the same number as the people at the altar."

Mister Song and Jin-Woo, plus the two others who helped the young man – indeed, the flames lit up to match the number of people standing at the altar.

And presumably these four flames drew a circle outside the altar.

‘If I consider the space between the flames, two more will complete the circle.’

It seemed that everyone left had to climb up the altar for something, anything, to begin with. Jin-Woo turns to ask Song.

"If we wait here, do you think another Hunter will come to save us?"

Song shook his head.

“Today is the seventh day since the Gate appeared. These things will start moving first before help comes along. "

"Since it's a D rank Gate, I see that it was abandoned for too long."

"Well, that's how the Association operates, isn't it."

The gate will be fully open after the seventh day. The true meaning of the attack was to kill the boss monster of the dungeon and therefore close the Gate before it happened. When it failed to do so, the monsters trapped in the dungeon would be freed from the dungeon and they would be able to roam the outside world.

Jin-Woo looks behind him.

The giant god statue was still looking down on them with an arrogant and arrogant expression from its throne.

"If the creature makes it out, then …."

The chaos that followed was inconceivable. Of course, before that happened, the Hunters who came to this room to save them all would be killed by the statues first.

He was now convinced of the fact that they could not wait here forever. Jin-Woo calls Ju-Hui and Kim.

"You two, climb up."

Ju-Hui stepped on the altar first. The hesitant Kim also followed him soon after. Two more flames lit up and the circle was now complete.

Then….

The hunters were fascinated by what happened next.

"What what the fuck?!"

"What's going on here?"

As Jin-Woo expected, another change occurred.

"come."

From the outermost end of the altar, small blue flames floated upwards and began to draw their own circles. There seemed to be at least thirty of these blue flames, placed very close to each other.

’34. 35. 36 …. ’

Jin-Woo quickly calculates everything as the blue flames complete the circle and he realizes that there are 36 of them.

‘Six blazing red flames to match the number of people. And 36 blue flames that appeared outside of them. What could be the meaning behind that number? "

That was.

THE CLANG!

Without warning, the tightly shut door suddenly opened wide. The hunter reflexively jerks.

"Euk …!"

They all desperately wanted to run to the wide-open door, but after seeing the final moments of the Hunter choir, they found it hard to take the first step. If someone tries to be the first, who knows what will happen to them?

Everyone's gaze is fixed on Jin-Woo as if asking for an answer from her. However, Jin-Woo's lips remain tightly closed.

"…"

He could not make a guess at the moment. He did not know if the door that opened was a trap, or they were now allowed out after they had successfully enforced the final law.

Too bad for him, just as everyone is looking at Jin-Woo, a terrible voice fills the entire room.

Crunched….

Creeaaa ….

The sixth head Hunter quickly snapped to take a look.

"What was that?!"

"This, it's getting closer !!"

"Those things are all moving now !!"

The stone statues that only moved when one was close were now a few steps closer to the group. Jin-Woo only needs a short time to figure out what happened, of course.

‘No, the statues don't move. It was the pedestal beneath them that moved. '

The horrible shrieks from before were most likely from the pedestal beneath the statues attached to the stone floor.

"… They don't move anymore?"

Kim wiped away the sweat droplets on his forehead as he spoke.

While everyone is still staring at the statues, Jin-Woo's focus is on the blue flames. They had come out one by one, and three of them had already blinked due to his existence.

Creaaqbpk …

Hearing the screech, someone shouted.

“A-what was that ?! Where'd it come from? ”

Jin-Woo quickly raised his head. The sound came from his general direction. The stone statues facing him had moved a little closer.

"Why just my side ….?"

Was it because he saw another place for a moment?

To confirm, Jin-Woo closes his eyes.

The voice sounded again.

Kznar …

As soon as he opened his eyes, the voice stopped.

"What's going on here ?!"

"What, what should we do about this ?!"

Jin-Woo quickly yells at the others.

"Don't take your eyes off the statue, no matter what!"

As he thought about it, he realized that the statues first started moving closer to the group as others were busy looking at him.

"They creep closer when we don't see them."

Just then, another blue flame disappeared. However, there was still no visible change for either the group or the statues.

'Could it…?'

Carefully raising his hand, Jin-Woo does his best not to take his eyes off the statues while checking the time with his watch.

'As I thought.'

At one minute intervals, the blue flame was extinguished.

"Blue fire is a timer."

It is likely that one of the main points of the third law is to remain inside the altar until all 36 blue flames are extinguished.

In other words, as long as everyone was watching the statues, they would be safe. It is very likely that no one should die in this last crowd.

Wanting to be more accurate about the rest of the time, Jin-Woo starts telling him the amount of blue flames once again.

"There are thirty left …."

They only need to last thirty more minutes!

Unfortunately, Jin-Woo made a big mistake, back then.

While he counted the amount of blue flames, his eyes wandered for a moment, and it caused the statues to creep closer …

Grindeeakkkk ….

"Open, uwaaaahhhh !!"

The man standing across shouted and ran towards the door. He just couldn't hold on any longer because the terrible shrill sound coming from his back made him extremely frightened.

As soon as he left the altar, one of the red flames disappeared.

"No!!"

Jin-Woo yells urgently.

However, the man who ran as if going insane escaped through the open door without meeting the fate of the grizzly, which shocked everyone.

"What, what the fuck is this ?! Master Seong! What the hell is going on? That guy made it out alive! ”

Kim shouted, confused.

Jin-Woo stands with his back to the door so he can't really know what's going on.

"Did anything change?"

"Door…. The door's a little closed. ”

"The door's closed?"

"No-no. After the man left, the door moved slightly, but then stopped. ”

Jin-Woo then remembers one of the red flames disappearing as soon as the man left the altar.

"Oh my God !!"

He immediately felt his heart turn cold.

One of the questions he had been unable to think of until now as he stood on this altar finally had an answer.

How can standing on the altar be a proof of one's piety?

Indeed, he now had an answer to this difficulty.

And that answer is probably the worst for Jin-Woo, who only has one leg now and needs the help of others just to keep his balance.

***

That 'open' door is a trap.

False hope right before someone's eyes!

If one were to see a door that opened and descended from the altar at the same time, red flames would come out and the door would be closed again. And then, the blood rain banquet and screams would definitely follow next.

On the other hand, 'altar' was the promised land.

If each did what they had to do in their position until the timer ran out, then their survival would be guaranteed.

So, it is either a false hope right before one's eyes, or an invisible promise of salvation.

The third law is a test to see if one can maintain one's position without falling into the sweet temptation up there while constantly being under the threat of a disturbing death.

However, two flies in the ointment occur in this situation.

The first is Jin-Woo.

Originally, the remaining group of people would run straight to the open door, which was, but they stop first to listen to what Jin-Woo has to say and that helps them avoid the traps that appeared in the first place.

"We're lucky there."

Indeed, that should be the only explanation.

Such a thing was only possible because Jin-Woo managed to figure out the first two laws by himself and gain the trust of others.

Unfortunately for him, the second fly also happened – something he did not foresee: a defector appeared in their midst.

How do humans react when there is hope for survival right before their eyes? That's too obvious.

The man who helps Jin-Woo leaves the young man and runs away as well. Song hastily reached out and propped Jin-Woo up from his back.

Poof.

As the man left the altar, another red flame disappeared and as expected, the door closed a little more.

Creeaaack…

"Huh?! Uh !!"

Kim confusedly pointed at the second defector, but just as the first person left them, he also safely escaped through the door.

Jin-Woo confirms the amount of red fire left and shouts.

“We don't have to move! More than this, then it will be the end! "

And
