Being an Eye to My Husband

Being an Eye to My Husband
CHAPTER 2

The doctor slowly opened the bandage that covered White's eyes. The man's heart was pounding fast. I hope what he fears doesn't happen.

"Now open your eyes" the doctor said.

White opened her eyes slowly. It feels a little sore. The mother next to him, clasped his hand tightly. Dark, he saw nothing even though his eyes were open. He felt his eyes, no more bandages there, but why can't he see anything.

"Dok, why is it dark? I can't see anything."

Deg

Mama Nuri's heart stopped beating. Her tears were shed without being asked. His biggest fear became real. His only son was blind.

"Well, Dad, why is everything dark?" White moved his hand forward, trying to feel what was there. Faintly, he could hear the sobs of his mother's cries. "Well, I didn't blind Mah?" White tried to touch anything, until the stairs, stopped on an arm. But he doesn't know whose arm it is. "Doctor, am I not blinded?" White has tremors. All his life, only this time did he feel a fear of this magnitude.

"Sorry sir, there's damage to your cornea. It's because you can't see."

White firmly gripped the arm he was holding. "Lying, I can't be blind. You lied to me, didn't Doc?"

"Once again, forgive me sir."

"No," cried White with hunting breath. "I'm not blind, I'm not blind" he kept screaming in frustration.

Mama Nuri who was by White's side immediately hugged her. "Calm down, baby, calm down. There must be a way you can see again." He tried to encourage the son, although he was not sure himself. Finding a corneal donor is not easy.

"I can't see Mah, I'm blind" White's cry broke.

Papa Sabda who saw that could not hold back his tears. The son who was once perfect arrived blind.

Without them knowing, a girl peeked out from the gap of the slightly open door. She was Airi, the girl was crying. Because of his brother, a man lost his eyesight. And now, does he still have the face to ask for this case to be resolved in a familial manner.

"Who are you?"

Airi was shocked when someone patted her shoulder. As he looked around, a beautiful woman stood behind him. Quickly he wiped away the tears in his eyes.

"Sa, I," Airi was confused as to what to answer.

"Can you step aside, I want to come in."

"Sorry, please." Airi stepped aside, gave the beautiful woman a way into the ward and then closed the door.

"Raya," said Mama Nuri when she saw her future daughter-in-law coming.

"Auntie, Om." Raya approached the gurney and kissed the hands of Papa Sabda and Mama Nuri.

While the Doctor and the nurse, because the task is done, they leave.

Knowing his future wife was coming, White felt anxious. There was fear in him if Raya could not accept his flaws.

"White, have your bandages been removed?" Raya looks happy. Several times he came to see White still wearing bandages. "I'm glad you're cured. Today I brought you an apple, do you want me to peel it?"

White just remained silent while looking down.

"See this is your favorite, green apple?" It shows an apple in front of White. But he felt strange, White's gaze did not lead to the apple. "Darling, you're okay, right?"

"White can't see" said Mama Nuri.

Plug

The apple Raya held immediately fell down. Her body immediately limp knowing if her future husband is blind.

Papa Sabda, he's taking his wife out. Giving space for White and Raya to speak from the heart of kehati. Anyway, it's a serious matter. And they themselves are the most entitled to decide what the future will look like.

Out of the room, Mama Nuri was surprised to see a girl standing not far from White's nursery door. It was as if he had seen the girl, but where, he had forgotten.

Airi approached White's parents, her hands stretched out forward to greet them.

"I'm Airi."

"Airi, who?" Mama Nuri frowned.

"I'm the older brother of the young man whose motorcycle collided with your son's car."

Highlight the eyes of Mama Nuri who was originally ordinary, immediately turned into hate. "So you're a family suspect?"

Airi just looked down.

"What are you here for?" ask Mama Nuri.

"Sa-I want to apologize on behalf of my sister."

Mama Nuri smiled obliquely. "Absorry, or any other intention?"

Airi hesitated to say it, but she had no other choice. He had to try even though it most likely would not be approved.

"Can this case be settled peacefully?"

Mama Nuri smiled as well as cried. Of peace? His son lost his sight and all this wants to be resolved peacefully? The girl in front of him was too naive. "You look at the wall next to you."

Airi turned her head and looked at the wall next to her.

"What color?" ask Mama Nuri.

"Pu-white," Airi said.

"And that door, what color is it?" Mama Nuri pointed at White's ward door.

"Co-brown."

"You can know everything. But my son, my son in there_" Mama Nuri held onto her tight chest. "My son can't see anything. White, Ash, brown, even to look at her own face in the mirror, she could not," cried Mama Nuri while crying hysterically.

"Patience Mah, patience," papa Sabda tried to calm him down.

"Do you think all this is fair. Is it fair that my son is blind and your brother is not getting the right reward. Is this fair, huh?" mama Nuri shouted while shaking Airi's shoulder.

Airi was crying, she knew this was unfair. But seeing his brother in prison, he won't be able to. Not to mention her mother, that woman would have been living without a life if Abian had been imprisoned.

"Well, calm yourself, Mah." Papa Sabda pulled Mama Nuri's hand to release Airi. "Sorry, it looks like we have to go. For the matter of this accident, we've already handed it to the lawyer," Papa Sabda took Mama Nuri away from there.

"It's cruel they Pah. After blinding Whiteku, he shamelessly asked for peace." Airi could still hear that even though Mama Nuri had already walked quite a distance.

With a slow step, Airi returned to her sister's nursery. In front of Abian's nursery, his mother was sitting dreamy.

"Mom." Airi touched her mother's shoulder and sat next to her. "Why didn't Mom come in?"

Soraya's mom just kept quiet. His eyes look empty.

"Mom, let's go in." Airi clasped her mother's cold hand.

Soraya's mother pulled out her hand. "Mom's just gonna be here" she's weak.

Airi sighed heavily then leaned her back.

"Abian never felt the affection of a father. Your father died when Bian was 3 years old. And it's all because of Mom. If only that night I hadn't told your father to go buy satay, your father would still be alive. He won't meet me and die horribly." Ms. Soraya cried considering the events of a dozen years ago.

"It wasn't Mom's fault." Airi cried while hugging her mother from the side.

"Mother listen, the man Abian hit was a rich man. They must've paid a great lawyer to put Bian in jail. I won't be able to see Bian in Ai's prison, I can't. Later, I'll talk to the Judge, let me take Bian's place in prison, let me just." Ms. Soraya cried while patting her chest that felt tight. A good boy, he accidentally bumped. He might even be able to see his favorite son in prison.
