The elevator door opened and at the same time Luana ran towards the boy's room. The hallway was dim. Most of the lights are off. Sara followed a little further back, perhaps to take shelter behind Lua just in case something happened. In the distance he could see the bedroom door open and the moon illuminating the hallway. He quickened his pace and took a deep breath before entering the room. The nurse Sara said was on the floor. His torn neck was bleeding. Luana checked her pulse, she's dead.
He looked around the room, his curtains were partially torn, his sheets were covered in blood. But the boy wasn't there. Lua's body became alert and she looked at the woman again. Red eyes like the man in his vampire dreams. Tear neck. Bloods. That's what the boy has! Now he can find out! But something pulled him out of his mind: he heard sobs that seemed not far, but close. He looked around the room again, this time more carefully. At one end of the room, huddled under the table, was Max.
- I found you! _ Luana said in a whisper and saw Sara flinched from the corner of her eyes.
No matter what might happen, he approached her and crouched down before her: in front of the boy. Max is a nine-year-old boy who was hospitalized two months ago. It had been found by people in an alley in the center of the city. Seeing that he was injured, they took him to the hospital. The boy said he remembered nothing but a woman who left him there. The boy looked like he had lost his memory or something.
Since then Luana has been in charge of her treatment at the hospital, trying to figure out what the boy has. Seeing Max in such a state, Lua felt pity. His hands and clothes were covered in blood. Her head was between her legs and she seemed to be crying, as Luana could hear a very slow sobbing.
—Max! _ The boy raised his face in fear, even his eyes were red.
— dr. I'm thinking you better get out of there, he might attack you too! _ Sara said, showing fear.
Max sees Sara looking annoyed and Luana gulps.
—Max! _ she called him again, turned her attention to him _ Wake up, little one!
"Max, I'm not gonna hurt you!" Please get out of there!
He could see when the boy's gaze went to Sara and came back and then he understood what was wrong there. He got up, pushed away from the table and went to Sara.
"Sara, I don't mean to be disrespectful, but would you rather have a deputy waiting outside?"
— But Dr. what if…
"It's gonna be okay Sara, I promise!" Max was scared so I wanted to talk to him and maybe he wasn't comfortable with you.
"Okay, but yell if you need to." I'll be outside to help you _he said leaving the room.
- Thank you! But I'm sure it's not necessary _ he said and closed the door, locked it. _ Small, let's get out of there, now there's no stopping you.
With a paranormal pace, the boy came out from under the table, climbed onto the stretcher and curled up in his corner. Luana was startled but took a deep breath and tried to look calm, approaching.
