Chapter 166: The Mystery of Mr. Joko's House

Andri POV

It was my first day working as a painter at Mr. Joko's house. I brought my friend Wildan. He was always with me if I got a part-time job.

Wildan and I are neighbors and we are one village. Along with my old Astrea bike. We started from home to Mr. Joko's house.

Upon arrival there we saw the house was still quiet as yesterday the condition. Wildan opened the fence and then I put my bike in the parking lot.

After that, we approached the door of the house. When my hand knocked on her door repeatedly there was no answer from there.

Then I remembered Joko's message. That he told me to go straight inside if he wasn't around.

I also remember Mr. Joko's message that he always left the keys to his house under the pot.

I approached several pots located next to Mr. Joko's house. One by one I checked carefully. And the keys and our meal money are right there. There is also more money to buy necessities.

After I got the key then I went back to approach Wildan who was still standing on the porch of Mr. Joko's house.

"This is the key the money has met! Let's just go in and get to work!" I said to invite Wildan to come in and start doing our job.

I opened the door using the key I got from under the pot. When I opened the door, there was a wind coming from inside the house. The wind greeted us.

We were silent for a moment. It was only silence after that wind that greeted us. Me and Wildan watched the house. Starting from the hallway to the roof of the house as well as the floor. Everything is dirty and dusty.

"Mas, this is a nice house! But why dirty gini huh, Mas?" ask Wildan.

"Hushh.." I'm with him.

"His name also lives here old man! So yes, it's natural that the house is dirty like this. Not strong, the father cleaned it. What matters is that we have one goal. Finish the job you were asked for, that's it!" I said I was trying to tell Wildan.

Wildan nodded after that. We started our work as usual. Wildan and I split the tasks.

I finished the window and front door. While Wildan he finished the middle door of the house.

We were busy with each other until the dhuhur adhan was heard. When the Adhan began to reverberate then me and Wildan sat in front of the porch of the house.

The first day working there was absolutely no obstacle. Thank goodness it feels! We enjoyed the cigarettes we brought.

"Don't eat the mas?" ask Wildan.

"Yes, spend the cigarettes first! All these abis prayers keep looking for maem!" I told Wildan.

Wildan nodded his head understandingly. After a while we smoked. Finally we decided to take the water. There we prayed in one of the empty rooms.

The room was dusty. There are some paintings on the wall. The painting is of cloth. The painting is neatly lined up there.

After we cleaned the floor. We also prayed there. Surprisingly after we finished our prayers.

The floor that we cleaned up earlier was suddenly dirty again. I think this floor is clean. It would be strange if this thick dust came in an instant.

"So the feeling has been swept away, Mas!" wildan said behind my body.

I'm silent, it's weird but I don't want to make things worse. I stood up and invited Wildan to come with me to eat at a stall.

We both got on the bike. We walked down the rice field. Until you find a food stall. Then stop our bike there.

We both went inside and ordered food. When food is made. The shop mothers occasionally glanced at us. When our meal was finished and served, the mother asked,

"Where are you from, Mom?" ask the mother to us.

Maybe he was a little surprised because the clothes we were wearing were dirty. Naturally, our job is a painter and surely the paint liquid is a little spilled on our clothes.

"We work, buk!" answer me to that mother.

"Oh," the mother was bearded after hearing my answer.

"Where's the job, Mas?" ask that mother again.

"We work as a painter, buk!" my answer.

"Oh, ngcat anyway, ma'am! Where is it, mas?" ask the mother again.

"Mister Andi's house?" ask the mother.

"It's not open, Mr. Joko's house!" my answer.

Hearing the name of Mr. Joko called then the mother was immediately speechless. His reaction just nodded only then he went back to the stove.

There stood the mother's husband. They whispered to each other later. I don't know what they whispered there?

After we finished eating there. So we went back to Mr. Joko's house to continue our work. As usual, we started our own work.

At first there was nothing. The adzan ashar. I heard something fall. It was from the middle aisle of the place where Wildan worked.

Hearing the sound of falling, I went straight to him. And sure enough Wildan fell down the stairs.

He fainted there but did not faint half a knife but his eyes were closed. I heard faintly from her lips she said a sentence.

"Astaghfiullah!" he repeated it over and over again.

I patted Wildan's face but he didn't come to his senses. Then I took the initiative to get Wildan near the pool.

There I put Wildan on my lap. Then I splashed the pool water on Wildan's face.

Seconds later he was conscious. And the first sentence he said when he came to his senses was,

"Let's go home, Mas!" said me. The cold sweat on his forehead seemed to be something that made Wildan like this.

"Calm down, let's blow it on the porch. Come on!" I said take him to the front porch.

We both sat there and Wildan was still very scared.

"Here, cigarette let's calm you down!" I bargained while giving him a cigarette.

Wildan took it and he lit the cigarette. He sucked it repeatedly. Then he looked at me who was also staring at him. He came closer to me and whispered,

"Mas, just now on the stairs I saw a baby crawling down but all the blood. His right eye was out of the mas! Horrified, mas! Come on home, Mum!" whispered Wildan to me.

I was surprised to see that. Dilemma taste. The money given by Mr. Joko has been enjoyed. If we don't finish our job it's a debt.

"Calm down, already! Let it go, you've been with me. Work like this, are you happy anyway? The money we have received even before we enjoy to eat. We can't stop! Sin if we stop doing that!" I said to Wildan.

Wildan was silent.

"Come on, Mas!" the answer.

I felt sorry for Wildan, too, saying,

"It's late afternoon too! We clean up our ex-work. We'll be here again tomorrow!" I said to Wildan.

Wildan nodded later. Because the feeling of fear still haunts Wildan. Then the middle hallway near the stairs I was cleaning.

A few minutes walk. And I heard the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs. I who turned my back to the stairs fell silent. Then slowly turn around.

I was shocked to see a woman with her two children.

They glared at me with bloody clothes and a very pale face.

I tried to calm myself. While reading the Quran I know. It was as if we were fighting strongly.

Slowly their hands pointed at me and they simultaneously said,

"Reverse!"

"Reverse!"

"Reverse!"

Say them to me. Then the three figures disappeared. I was in shock when I was silent for a moment. When Wildan came I was conscious.

We also went straight home from there. When I arrived home, I told one of my friends and my climbing friend named Bella Gautama.
