Believing Dalil-Dalil Syar’i About Occult Things

Many people reject supernatural things on the grounds that it does not make sense or does not reach the human senses, such as the mu’tazilah who reject many problems of belief that horror such as the news of the grave, faith in the well (haudh), shirath, mizan, intercession and ru`yah (seeing Allah in the Hereafter).

True Muslims must believe in things or the supernatural as the word of Allah Ta’ala in Al-Baqarah 1-3:

الم ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِلْمُتَّقِينَ الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنْفِقُونَ

“Alif la mim. This book (Al-Qur`an) has no doubt in it, a guide for those who fear, (i.e., those who believe in the unseen, who establish prayer, and who pray, and spend some of the sustenance which We bestow upon them.”

🦋Human calories limited.

God created man to worship Him, to believe Him, to justify all His message, though not everything He commanded was sometimes difficult and unattainable to the human senses. Here the factor of faith is needed so that the human mind is subject to the revelation of Allah Ta’ala and the hadiths of shahih. Belief in the supernatural is one of the pillars of faith that every believer must have.

It is this faith that distinguishes Muslims from infidels. For faith is a true justification of Allah and His Messenger. A believer will believe all that Allah has commanded and preached by the Messenger, whether he sees it himself or not. Another is the case with the Zindiqs who always do not believe in supernatural things. Because their petty minds cannot find the faith, they do not believe everything that their science does not achieve, and their minds are corrupted. (Tafsir As-Sa’di I/41, Tahqiq Muhammad Zuhri an-Najjar, As-Sa’diyah Company, Riyadh)

The capacity of the human mind is limited, many of the realities of life are difficult to explain with it, namely things related to belief, such as establishing or denying the name and nature of God, the nature of spirit, jinn, miracles, and the nature of God, karamah, heaven, hell, angels, favors, and the torment of the grave, or the state of doomsday, and so forth. This proof of reason is not worthy of being the foundation for establishing the ultimate truth.

Ibnul Qayyim rahimahullah said, “If the postulate of naqli is contrary to reason, then it is taken is the postulate of naqli who is shahih and the intellect is discarded and placed under the feet, place where God put it and put its owners.” (Mukhtashar as-Shawa’iq al-Mursalah, Muhammad al-Mushili, p. 82-83)

🦋 Salaf and the supernatural.

The salafuna ash-shalih exalt the revelations and hadiths of Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam with regard to the supernatural. This must be exemplified by the believers so that their actions survive various deviations.

Imam Abu Ja’far ath-Thahawi asserted: “We believe in the existence of a grave adzab for people who have the right to be persecuted, we believe in the grave question by Munkar and Nakir about Rabb, we believe, din and His Prophet as from the Prophet of Allah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam and the Companions, may the pleasure of Allah be poured out for them.

We believe in the day of resurrection and charitable retribution on the day of resurrection, we believe in al-‘ardh (the presentation of all the deeds of servants), hisab (the calculation of charity), the reading of the book (the record of practice), and the reading of the book, rewards and torments as well as shirath and mizan.” (Cited from the translation of Aqidah ath-Thahawiyah, p. 38)

May God always establish our faith to submit to His Shari'a not to deny the teachings of the Apostle with various pretexts with logical reason, and not to fear the occult in order to be in harmony with the limited human intellect.
