Elbert looked at the face of Felicie who still thought it was like she was nowhere near him.

It felt like Elbert was eager to pull Felicie into his arms and say that she was the little girl who had been in his car. But for now it was impossible, he did not want Felicie to hate him if she did as she pleased.
