"What's? You can't just cut my pocket money like that? I still need tuition for another year, then there's a fee to buy books and rent an apartment . Sir, Ms. .. You're not kidding, are you?"
My parents told me to go home for an important family meeting. They told me they wanted a divorce, and since I was an adult they decided to stop giving me pocket money, and stop paying my monthly fees, even my education fees as well.
They gave me all kinds of reasons to cut my pocket money, because it was their lawyer's fees, it was their new family, whatever, so they could leave me, they thought of me as just a shield from their previous marriage, and after all this happened, they dumped me and they no longer wanted to have a relationship with me anymore. Wicked!!
Well it's true that I was never close to them, perhaps for the first ten years of my childhood life alone. But after that our lives dropped dramatically. They fight every night. I don't even remember who cheated the first time. But their divorce was long enough planned.
Money is never a problem for them. They are both successful businessmen. That's why all the things that happened didn't make much sense, when they said they wanted to stop supporting me, and they didn't want to have any more relationship with me.
"Laura, honey, I want to move to another city and so does your father. And I believe that you have the ability to stand on your own two feet. You're all grown up. Try to be independent, baby. We'll send you money for your living expenses every two months in your account, and of course for your apartment. "
"But after that, we hope you can support yourself. You need to learn to appreciate money."
The two of them continued their rant, and I was lazy to listen to them. I walked out of my childhood home and saw it one last time, they told me they were selling it, too, and would send my things to my apartment. I started to continue my journey back to where I was, my mind started to overdrive.
The next two weeks,
My life is getting worse. My best friend broke off our friendship, because I was no longer rich. The news spread quickly among my other kayaku friends. They found out about my parents' divorce, and about me being financially.
Even my own boyfriend, who we've been in a relationship for two years, suddenly cut me off, because his parents said he didn't deserve to be with someone like me. Apparently Richard was preparing himself for politics, and I as the son of a parent from a divorce would not look good in the eyes of their family.
I was sitting alone in my apartment, quietly praying and grateful that they all left me. If this is my life now, maybe I can start it myself from scratch, I still have savings for the next month and a half. But I had to find a smaller apartment, and sell my expensive things online to make an income. Because I really need a fee to pay for my tuition that will be due in the next two months.
I then opened my laptop, and had already set up my item sales account. I need to put pictures of my stuff in it. But before that I decided to take a look around some of the smaller apartments first. Maybe I should change my car too.
I cried when I thought of my cat Moly's fate. He was always there for me, throughout my childhood to this day. And in the end I had to sell my cat as well and end her grooming costs.
So I decided to call Lucy, tell her I wanted to meet her, and talk about selling Moly. He didn't sound surprised when I told him. Maybe he'd heard all about me, about my parents, too.
I walked towards the lobby, Aryo greeted me. "Miss Baskara"
"Oh Aryo, what should I do to you. It's been years. I told you my name was Laura. Please. I'll be out of this apartment in a few weeks." Aryo looked sad. He nodded and called me Laura. He opened the door for me, and opened his hat, trying to look cheerful.
I went to the club, and straight to Lucy's office. We talked for about an hour. He actually already has a Moly buyer, and the price is pretty good.
So I told him to make the sale. I went to say goodbye to Moly, I wiped my tears when I saw him. I kissed her one last time and walked away.
I went to the bar and bought a bottle of wine, to give me some strength after crying. As I was leaving, a woman approached me.
"Excuse me, do you have time to talk? I might have a business proposal for you. We can move somewhere else if you want. My name is Adriana." She looks glamorous. I don't know what he wants from me.
"Ehm ... What kind of business proposal?"
"Why don't we order lunch first, and talk more. How about I meet you at the tavern across the street. There aren't too many people." He blinked as I looked around me. But some people were looking in our direction. I also saw some friends of my parents looking at me with their pity.
"okay.. I'll see you in ten minutes, I'll take my car first."
I really need the money. This time I will just listen to him.
