On a sunny morning in Incheon, South Korea, a girl is busy getting ready for her first day of work. He was almost late for turning off his alarm and continuing to sleep.
"Aish, where did I put it? As I recall I put it here," he muttered as he stared at his watch. He was shocked when he saw the clock had already shown at 7.
"Damn, I could be late if I keep looking. I'd better get on with it later after work" he thought as he rushed out of the house and ran to the bus stop. Unfortunately, the bus had left just as he arrived at the stop.
"Ke shit, what else is this, God? In this case, I'll have to run all the way to the office" he lamented, forced to leave the bus stop.
After arriving at the office, he had to run again towards his manager's room, readying himself to receive scathing criticism.
The girl knocked on her manager's door anxiously. "Sorry, manager, I'm late."
"Why are you late? It's just your first day here, and you're almost an hour late. You forget that this office places great emphasis on discipline" his manager rebuked in a stern tone.
"Sorry, manager, there was a little problem that made me late," Nari tried to give an explanation.
"Lack of caring about your reasons. Now, work on this project" the manager said.
"Why are you asking if you don't want to listen to my reason, unlucky manager," Nari muttered inwardly, upset with her manager who only asked but wouldn't listen to the explanation.
While on his way to his study, a friend, Nayeo, called him, "Yoon Nari!"
Nari breathed. "Can you be a little more calm? I can hear you."
Nayeo is her friend since high school, a girl who always yells loudly every day. Nari may sometimes get upset by the noise, but is also happy to have a friend like Nayeo.
"Let's see, why are you late on your first day at work?" asked Nayeo curiously.
Nari simply replied briefly, "I lost the necklace, as I recall I put it in the drawer."
"Why always forget to put a ka-"
"Nayeo, Nari, what are you doing here?" the manager suddenly appeared.
"Chat for a moment, sir," Nari replied, trying to calm the mood.
"Whatever you're doing, this office isn't the place. Go back to work, and Nari, your first day, you have to finish the task I gave you immediately" the manager said firmly.
They returned to their respective places, but the atmosphere became tense. When it came to lunch time, Nari heard noisier talk from some employees.
"What if the character becomes real? It'll be fun" one of them said.
The three of them sat down for lunch, and Nari wanted to know what was being talked about.
They nodded their heads, and Nari continued, "What are the employees talking about? They seem very excited."
"Let's go, you really have to keep up with the latest news and trends. They're talking about a popular comic. You are too busy with your work" said Nayeo.
Nari just listened indifferently. "Let's say, actually the idea of making comics is your dream, right?" Youra added.
"I agree with Yora. Your comics must have been better than they're reading right now" Nayeo said.
Nari contemplating. He knew that he had tried to make comics, but the results were not appreciated and were once considered ugly. It was an experience that made him hesitate to try again.
"I'll think about it" Nari replied briefly.
Can he really try again, after a bitter experience in the past, where his own friend underestimated his work?
Nari continued her first day with great concern. He felt as if the entire office was watching him, judging every step he took. Those who have just started work know how it feels.
After a meeting with her manager, Nari is given a task that is quite difficult to complete in a short time. He tried his best to finish well, though his worries still haunted his mind.
During the lunch break, Nari decides to be alone for a moment. He went to a small park around the office, trying to relieve his stress. However, his mind was still constantly thinking about the comments of the employees earlier.
"Why am I always like this? Why do I always make mistakes on the first day?" nari muttered in her heart. He felt frustrated and not confident.
Nayeo and Youra, who realize how depressed Nari is, come to see Nari in the park. They tried to cheer him up and give him some encouragement. "Let's not be too hard on yourself. Everyone must have made a mistake in the beginning," Youra said.
Nari smiled weakly. Her friends are always there for her, and that makes her feel better. "Thank you, you guys. I just feel a little groggy 'cause it's the first day."
After lunch, Nari returned to work with a new spirit. He tries to be more confident and focused on his work. This difficult first day might have been a test, but he was determined to get through it well.
