Amid the hustle and bustle of the modern city, Aric stepped quite tiredly through the very crowded sidewalk. While the people were passing by with their respective busyness, he looked at the tall and majestic buildings that loomed around him. At the age of eighteen, she has been a major supporter of her younger sister Elara since a tragic accident that claimed their parents.
Elara, an eight-year-old little girl with twinkling eyes, jumped by her side, trying to catch the shadow of a butterfly swirling through the air. The blue sky above it gives a touch of cheerfulness in the midst of a challenging life.
Aric paused his steps for a moment and smiled looking at Elara who was trying to chase after the butterfly. He set his baseball cap neatly overhead, feeling proud of his sister who had boundless spirit. Despite her young age, Elara has taught Aric that happiness can be found in simple things.
"Elara, be careful huh," Aric said in a soft voice, "Don't fall over."
Elara laughed cheerfully, shaking her hand trying to catch the butterfly. "Calm down, brother! I know what I'm doing."
In silence, Aric admired his sister's spirit and determination. After losing their parents, she has gone to great lengths to protect Elara and give her a bright future. Although they face limitations and difficulties, she knows that they have each other.
After a while, Elara finally gave up and returned to Aric's side with a breath of breath. He looked at Aric with sparkling eyes. "Sister, the butterflies are flying too fast!"
They continued their journey back to their small apartment. Inside, Aric deftly cooks a simple dinner while Elara tidies up the wildflowers she has collected. They sat on the floor with a small table in the middle of the room, enjoying their dishes with a smile on their face.
After dinner, Aric helps Elara to sleep and sit on her bedside. He opened Elara's favorite storybook and began to read it in a soft voice. As the story progresses, his eyes creep on the words on the page, but his mind drifts away.
He pondered about the responsibility he had been shouldering ever since their parents left. She has learned how to cook, clean, even work part-time in a car repair shop to support them both. Their lives may be different from most people, but Aric strives to give his best to Elara.
When Elara finally fell asleep with a smile on her face, Aric placed the book gently beside her. He walked out of the room and found himself on a small balcony overlooking the city. The glittering light from the windows of skyscrapers creates a beautiful landscape on a cool night.
Aric looked at the dark sky filled with stars, and in the silence of the night, he pondered about the past and the future. Their lives may be difficult, but each day brings new hope. Despite sometimes feeling tired and overwhelmed, Aric feels a strong determination to protect Elara and give her a better chance.
He let out a long sigh, feeling grateful for moments like this. Even though they have lost their parents, they have each other. And under this vast sky, amidst the sparkling lights of the city, Aric promised to look after his sister and give his best.
