Kringg…. Kringg….
Maria was woken by the weker next to her with puffy eyes. He was in a room he hadn't visited for a long time. A baseball case and glove hanging on the table, black steel knight posters, messy textbooks.
Maria recalled that she slept next to her sister after telling her about anyone who came to her funeral. At that time Maria immediately slept asleep because of fatigue that was not felt all this time like preparing a banquet, accompanying the body of Keiichi, to expel people who tried to disturb his sister.
Then his fear came again,
“Keiichi!” Shouted Maria seeing Keiichi next to her had disappeared.
Maria jumped out of the bed, and out of the room she smelled the smell of cooking. Maria soon descends, and Keiichi is seen cooking in the kitchen.
“Keiichi?”
Keiichi seemed to be flipping the omelette in the frying pan, and he looked at Maria without noticing her agile hand.
“Kakak? The rice is ready, brother! This is me making provisions. I don't think you're gonna wake up, you're not gonna wake up in your room early?”
Maria doesn't remember Keiichi ever cooking for breakfast, let alone making provisions. Keiichi who he knew all this time always woke up late, reluctantly going for his club activities in the early morning. If Maria has summer camp activities, Keiichi is always reluctant to cook as simple as a plump egg and rice and eat instant noodles all day.
“Keiichi, can you cook?”
Maria said as she sat behind the table, where she had seen grilled fish, omelet eggs, and miso soup.
“Eh?” Said Keiichi while looking at Maria, “Have I not cooked in all this time?”
“Never, instant noodles maybe?”
Keiichi smiled at Maria, “I secretly learned to cook, there is a good-bye at school.”
And yet Maria tried to take the side dish while dumbfounded, suddenly crossed her mind in her head, “Keiichi!”
“Iya kak?”
Maria saw two provisions in the kitchen that Keiichi was arranging, “Don't say you want to go to school today.”
“I'm healthy, you heard doc-”
“Cannot! You. You just got ma! What if you're tired? Continue.. continue...”
“But I want to go to school.”
“Kakak said no can!”
Before long they argue with each other about Keiichi's stubbornness to return to school. Maria and Keiichi in the debate slowly began to forget about the past, as if today was a fight they used to do every day. Inwardly, Mary felt the immense relief that she could still do this, arguing with her sister.
“Then you promise not to participate in sports and clubs!”
“O.. okay...”
Keiichi agreed with his brother's words.
By the time they start breakfast, Maria starts to have a lot of questions that suddenly come to her mind, such as why Keiichi didn't come to the club and what happened in Keiichi's class? Does the fight in his class have anything to do with the circumstances in Keiichi's class?
But Maria decided not to ask a hard question and remembered about the memorial poster given by Keiichi's friends.
“Ah, Keiichi, I forgot to give you this!”
Maria picked up the paper in her carry-on bag in the living room.
“Your friends made you this. They must be so happy you're back.”
While saying that, Keiichi's face looks flat staring at the paper of yearning his friend made him.
“Keiichi? You okay?”
Keiichi woke up from his reflection and tried to smile at Maria.
“They will be surprised to see me in class later.”
***
Keiichi being the most interesting sight in this small town, people stared at him awkwardly, some glanced over from the fence, even shouting to tell each other that Keiichi, the one who came back from his death, was the one who had died, now walk in their housing.
“Son Keiichi! Already, later the school, we chat here. I'll give you my fish! Here, my elderly father wants to know what it's like to die!”
Shouted one of the fishermen who neighbors with the brothers, and more and more the more unpretentious call Keiichi, but Keiichi can only apologize and over time began to ignore them.
Before long, Maria's eyes were drawn to a local newspaper lying in front of someone's fence. Apologizing first, no matter who, Maria unrolled the paper and saw a photo of Keiichi who closed his eyes because of the bright camera flash journalists in the past day.
“In this small town there is nothing without newspapers everything already knows brother.”
Maria sees an invisible Keiichi being affected by the crowds surrounding him, even in the newspaper bearing his picture. Seen at that moment Keiichi seemed busy with his own thoughts.
...
Keiichi himself is actually in an inner struggle about what is happening now. He woke up so early and felt so good. Suddenly he felt like cooking as if he had done it every day.
True to say Maria, she never cooked, and how could Keiichi be so familiar with all of this?
When bathing, he saw that his thin body was smooth and clean, but he experienced anger, such as the awkward feeling that he had to immediately train his body if he did not want to be harmed. He did not know the reason, for some reason like there was an instinct in his head that he could not understand.
“Keiic..”.
Then remembering the problems at school like a bitter memory that he had lived for a long time.
The pictures her brother gave her seemed to make her sick. He remembered a little how hard it was every day that he had to go through school, but that memory once again seemed not to be a recent memory, but felt very past.
During the recollection of the pain feeling in his mind, he recalled the sunlight, the sound of cheers, and his aching hand. So familiar, so specific, but he couldn't remember it.
“Keiichi!”
“...! Sister?!”
Maria held onto Keiichi's shoulder which was now walking over pensively.
“Where did you turn? School in situ.”
Only Keiichi realized that he was walking not following Maria's footsteps. The path he walked every day once again felt so strange, his mind was trying to remember him carefully. Now he tries to read the street, after this there are traffic lights, shaving places, cafes, playgrounds, school baseball fields. Going through all that as if his memory returned slowly, as he ran around here and there as a child, went shopping, ran in the morning. The memory that slowly emerged made Keiichi increasingly believe there was something wrong with his head.
“You're okay, right? Keiichi you look pale.”.
“Not ap..., eh?”
Keiichi felt something, his heart was beating fast, he could feel the wind passing between his skin carrying an awkwardness that he did not feel before, he felt something pass so quickly towards the two of them who were now walking near the school grounds. Then there was a sound from a distance that suddenly became so loud in Keiichi's ear, “Side!!”.
Keiichi's eyes were wide open, his hands moved quickly towards Maria's face, and “Bruakk!!!” Keiichi had already fallen in front of Maria.
“Keiichi!!”
Maria frantically looks towards Keiichi, but is seen in the hands of Keiichi who has caught the ball.
“You okay Keiichi?” Maria held Keiichi's hand. Maria knew that catching the ball directly could make Keiichi's hand hurt, but it didn't look swollen or bruised on Keiichi's hand.
“Not what sister..” Keiichi wakes up, dusting off his school shirt, and looks at the two high school boys who are practicing hitting both of them from a distance.
“Woiii, sorry! You guys okay?!” Shouting at them, Maria struggles to hear them due to their distance, but somehow Keiichi is able to hear them clearly.
“Kali—“ Haven't Maria wanted to scream scold, suddenly felt a strong wind passing through Maria's body. Keiichi throws the ball from a distance and the ball goes to two baseball players who have trouble catching the ball.
“It's okay, they're training for the summer competition.” Keiichi said as he held his wrist, and he felt an awkwardness in his heart towards the ball.
“Omong-by the way how did you catch the ball? Even I who used to see arrows could not see them. Hey, Keiichi?”
Keiichi looked pale, he held his chest, his forehead was covered in sweat. Scorching images of the sun, a green field, and a pitcher before him filled Keiichi's head.
“Keiichi you're pale... You seriously want to go back to school?”
“Ah, it's okay brother, I. may be tired because of the same shock of the ball earlier. Ah, I'm through here, brother, don't take me to the pager!!”
Keiichi stepped faster than his older brother's pace following the children in uniform as he was. Maria wanted to chase after him before Maya's hand held her shoulder.
“Morning, Maria.”.
“Maya!”
Maya sees the running boy. The figure he saw came out of the coffin yesterday in a feeling of disbelief.
“Keiichi really live well..”
“Maya, what's up? Why is your face pale like that?”
“Can you later, you and your sister, we chat together go home later?”
Maria saw the face of awkwardness in her friend's face. His always cheerful expression looked so solemn today. Maya holds the amulet in her hand, holding it tightly until it shakes.
