Arriving at the hospital according to a letter of reference from the midwife in the village, the spring of Bu Maryam and Fatan who were only two to bring Indi to the city called a nurse and helped lift the body of the Indian to the top of the gurney.
"Please, please save my son, sister." Ms. Maryam said she begged the nun who is now helping drive Indi's gurney to the emergency room.
"Awhile, Mom. Let the patient be examined first," said the nurse when she arrived in front of the ER room and rushed to close the door from the inside, leaving Miss Maryam and Fatan outside.
"Mom, just call Daranya again. Tell me when we get there, who's gonna pay the cost if you don't call?" press Fatan without a soft tone at all, even impressed to tell as in his assistant only.
But because of his condition that is not possible to argue, finally Miss Maryam relented and immediately told Dara that they had arrived, and Dara promised that she would soon follow to the hospital as soon as possible.
"Where?" sambar Fatan after Miss Maryam finished calling.
"So soon she's here with her husband" said Miss Maryam briefly.
Fatan seemed to sigh in relief. "Well, thank God at least there are still people who care about our fate."
Miss Maryam shook her body on the waiting chair, with her chest pounding waiting for the doctor's decision on her son who is now struggling between life and death.
"It's all because of you, Fatan." Miss Maryam growled softly, but was still quite heard by Fatan.
Fatan's forehead looked deeply wrinkled. "What do you mean by mother talk like that?"
"You don't have feelings, when the Indian condition is not good. Can you just say if you want to marry again, where is the contents of your head huh?" snarled Bu Maryam began to get angry, remembering by him Indi's words in the room earlier when Fatan came out to call the midwife.
"Mas Fatan wants to get married again, Mom. And worse yet, he intends to marry a diamond," said Indi then with tears and withstanding the tremendous pain in his stomach.
"Well, why am I being blamed? What's the connection?" said Fatan did not feel guilty at all, even impressed defiant.
Miss Maryam looked at her daughter-in-law that was upset, if not because the doctor who examined Indi had gone out of the room then it could be when Miss Maryam had made Fatan perkedel.
"Family patient?" said the doctor.
Spring Ma'am Maryam and Fatan came to the doctor.
" How's my son doing, Doc?" cecar Miss Maryam is impatient.
"The condition of the patient is quite alarming, so we need his family's approval and signature to perform surgery immediately" said the doctor quickly with a face no less panicked.
"Do whatever, doc. Save my son," urged Maryam impatiently, tears had washed her old cheeks again.
" Alright, then let's come with me to sign the consent file, because this operation could be high risk later" said the doctor warned.
Miss Maryam nodded her head, then walked along with Fatan to follow the steps of the male doctor who was like the age of Miss Maryam.
"Dok, sorry guess what the details cost for my son's surgery?" mother Maryam asked after putting her signature on the stamped paper that she could not read it, because Fatan as a husband did not even want to sign her because he was afraid to be told to pay later.
The doctor seemed to think for a moment, then exhaled deeply. "Maybe it could reach tens of millions, ma'am. But, what does money mean if lives are at stake, right?"
Bu Maryam's eyes looked wide open, her mouth gaping so shocked by the estimated amount of cost for Indi's operation, it was only an estimate. I don't know, I don't imagine in his mind how much later they will get tangled in accounts payable with Dara.
The doctor got up and followed Maryam and Fatan out of the room. The face of the nelangsa seemed to hang on the look of Bu Maryam, while Fatan's face looked confused but not a few also tried to find a solution, letting his in-laws think for themselves since.
Either the real worry or just the temple she showed since then no one knew.
Luckily, in the midst of the anxiety, Miss Maryam saw Dara and Zaki walking quickly towards them. With eyes full of mist, Miss Maryam greeted Dara and hugged her tightly.
"You coming, son? Thank you for still caring for us" whispered Miss Maryam between their arms.
"Yes ma'am, same thing. How is Indi?" dara asked after breaking her embrace.
Miss Maryam shrunk the corner of her eyes with the tip of her shabb. "The doctor said, Indi had to have surgery. His condition is very worrying."
"Then? Is the operation already started?" dara asked as she caught the look of sadness from Miss Maryam's face.
Looked like Miss Maryam was shaking. " No, the doctor said the new surgery will be done after we pay the cost of the operation first."
Dara nodded in understanding, then turned to her husband and let Zaki walk to the administration desk to pay off his internal operating costs.
"I'm sorry you only come when you need help like this, Nduk. Actually I am ashamed to have to trouble you and your husband like this," muttered Miss Maryam with a cloudy look on her face that increasingly looks thickened.
Dara shook her head and clasped Mom Maryam's hand tightly.
"Not to think about it, ma'am. Dara's willing to help you."
"No, son. whichever may be so, all the costs that you spend today will be noted let the mother replace it later even with the way in installments yes, son. Don't refuse, don't make me feel guilty about you." Miss Maryam persuaded Dara with teary eyes.
In the end Dara nodded in agreement, although in fact he did not really think about when and how Miss Maryam would return the money. For him the most important thing is that Indi's life can be saved including the baby in the womb.
After payment was confirmed, the nurses rushed Indi's gurney to the operating room. Indi's weak condition seems to be getting weaker now, even if previously it was still heard his moaning this time even Indi was unable to just make a sound, opening his eyes was already heavy for him.
"She, you are strong. Hang on, son, don't stay on mom. For mother's sake for your son's sake, hold on, son. Strong yes," whispered Miss Maryam in Indi's ear as she pushed her safe into the operating room.
Indi did not respond to make Miss Maryam scared half to death, then Miss Maryam turned to Dara to look at her eyes as if implying she wanted Dara Sudi to talk to her sister before she went into the operating room.
"Wait a minute, sus.". Dara said quickly before the gurney entered the operating room.
"What's up, Ma'am. Please do not take too long because the patient needs quick action," sambar nuns in green uniforms with masks and headgear that match .
" No, I just wanted to talk to my sister for a minute. I promise you only one minute."
The sister nodded forcefully, and Dara came closer to Indi's ear and whispered softly there.
"Hold, Deck. The strong, Ma'am waiting for you here, Mbak has forgiven you, come back safely later we bring our baby to play in the park the same yes," he whispered with tears, while rubbing his stomach which now began to feel throbbing because of the existence of life there as well.
And at a glance seen by Dara if Indi's eyelids move, and his fingers in Dara's hand seemed to respond even though slowly, as well, before finally Indi's silent body is brought into the operating room, struggling between life and death to bring the child to life in the world.
