The Grand King and His Interpreter

The Grand King and His Interpreter
Chapter 8 - The King's Order

Steve walked into the room without saying anything. For a split second, he just looked at me, and with half a face annoyed with the gesture 'I've been waiting downstairs since'. I looked towards the watch on my left wrist. Sure enough, I was almost ten minutes late. I'm so stupid for not being wise to face Fania.

“Fania..” Steve calls Fania who is next to Sam.

Steve's footsteps approached Fania, until they were very close, then Steve stopped, then stood there without saying a word for a few seconds. He was just observing Fania.

“Usually I have never discussed let alone cared about the strange insignificant rumors spreading in this office. However, it seems like this time I should care more because an intimidating act like this is very bad for the company.” Steve Obviously.

No one's shaking.

“Sam, I may be older than Hendra, but I am not married.” Said Steve.

“Sorry, Sir.” Sam lowered his head in not daring to clash with Steve.

“Although I am close to Cheryl, she is not my mistress.” Steve said to Sam. He looked back at Fania. “You, Fania, you should just do your job, no need to worry about anything else, let alone slandering the colleagues of one open BO office, you indirectly accuse me of behaving s*x freely.” continued Steve calm.

“Sorry, Sir.” Fania. He really wasn't squinting in front of Steve.

“And you, Hendra, make a 1st warning letter for these two people, hand it to me first let me check, and please submit it to their respective manager after I sign.” Said Steve.

“Good, Sir.” Reply Hendra sprightly.

Although I feel sorry for Sam and Fania, but they deserve it. They have no right to judge others low, plus they say all the allegations are based on baseless rumors. I'm honestly pretty disappointed in Sam. I never thought before, Sam had such bad thoughts towards me.

“Come, we can be late.” Steve said as he patted my shoulder gently.

Steve came out first, then I followed behind him without saying anything to my two friends, and also Fania.

I don't know since when Steve eavesdropped on our conversation from outside the room. I'm grateful I didn't have to give a single fist of my death to Fania, or Sam.

All the way through the hallway, up to the front lobby, we didn't speak anything. Steve's sedan was parked right in front of the lobby. A security man ran towards us as soon as he saw the car driver coming. He handed the car keys to Steve.

“Uhm, I can drive, sir.” I said as I stretched my hand out to Steve to have him hand the keys to my car.

Steve looked at me with an annoyed face. What's wrong?

“Let me take the car, sir. Calm. Safe really, sir.” I said again trying to convince Steve.

Steve didn't touch my words and left me to stay, while Steve got in the car.

“Come on.” Steve orders with his serious face.

I took a deep breath, then moved according to Steve's request. I got in the car, sat next to him. Trying to be a good passenger, by not arguing whatever the order.

Steve helped me cook the seat belt, after he was sure there were no items left, the car rolled slowly towards the front gate. Two security guards swiftly helped to regulate traffic in front of the gate, so that Stve's car could pitch safely.

“Not Sam is your best friend, huh?” Steve asked suddenly without looking at me.

“Iya, Sir.” Reply remembered.

“Steve.” Steve did my word. “Why can he say that painful thing so casually?”

I turned to Steve, trying to guess his current mood. It seems like he is upset.

“I also don't know.” I said that.

Honestly, Sam's words accusing me of being Steve's mistress are pretty annoying. Of course Sam can start off with a lighter question, without cornering me like that. Sick? Sure oes. I did intend to explain to them about me and Steve without giving any secrets between me, Steve, and Natsume.

“Fania pisses me off too. How could he say such words to his fellow women?”

“Women can be more creepy.” I said.

Steve shook his head in a careless manner while staring straight at the street. The frustration is clearly there. I let him nag as he pleased. It seems like it needs to spill it all.

“Cher.” The cold touch of Steve's hand surprised me.

His hand held my left hand. His face looks panicked.

“Your face is pale, your hands are shaking.” Steve looked worried. “You sick?” Ask again.

Memories about me and Gilang loomed again. Those memories I've long flown away. I don't want to remember it anymore.

No more.

I don't know if Gilang works in this place. When we broke up, I stopped contacting him, as did Gilang. We decided not to exchange news. Our story for two years was forced to end because the Gilang family wanted the woman who became their partner to have more than me.

“Do I need to postpone it?” Ask Steve. “I can postpone it until tomorrow.” Further.

I'm shaking. I took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. “I'm fine” I said. “Ayo.”

I walked in front of Steve. Steve was behind me. He still looks worried. I'm professional. I won't let personal things interfere with my work.

“Please come here sir, bu.” Said one of the staff from the office.

We were taken to a large meeting room. There are already two Japanese who seem to be part of the board, then some other staff around the table.

“Pagi.”Steve's brief greeting.

Everyone stood up to greet us. Steve greeted the two Japanese and some staff around them.

“Steve.” Said Steve steady.

“Masahiro.”

“Tadashi.”

“This is my secretary, Cheryl.” Said Steve introducing me to Mr. Masahiro and Mr.Tadashi using fluent Japanese.

Steve was quite good at conversation but he could not read the letters.

I bowed immediately after Steve introduced me.

“Please sit.” The cross started to sound.

I glanced at him. Stole sight. He also didn't say anything about me being his ex-girlfriend. Maybe he's ashamed of his current position, if he ever dated me.

“We already know each other, right?” Suddenly Gilang moved to sit next to me. “We know well.” Then come on and smile.

“I never knew you had an acquaintance here?” Ask Steve to me.

“I also don't know if my ACQUAINTANCE is also working here.” I reemphasized my words. It turns out my guess was wrong.

Uh! My current position is the Director's secretary. Although my voice also did not help much in the decision-making that Steve took. I can quite make good chats about the One Harness Parts company, so they can pitch pretty into the ranks of suppliers to Harness Part Mahawira.

“Don't Bu Cheryl this ex-boyfriend of Mr Gilang, huh?” The other staff chimed in, then followed by a low boisterous voice of people teasing me and Gilang.

It's a nightmare. Gilang had lowered me before we broke up, and did he think I would just be juxtaposed with him a second time? No. gabe. I want to fight people by saying that I have nothing to do with it anymore, and I don't want to be close to that man either.

“So, besides she is my secretary, and translator, this Cheryl is my girlfriend.” Steve suddenly said.

The whole room is silent.

Me? Steve's girlfriend?
