the Pitung was born in the village of pengumben, a slum in mawabelong, near the current palmerah station.the fourth son of a couple bang piung and mbak pinah [1] this was the original name of salihoen. according to oral history, the fourth son of a couple bang piung and mbak pinah pinah [1], the nickname "si pitung" is derived from the Javanese phrase "pituan pitulung" meaning "seven friends of help".[2] As a child, salihoen studied at the hadji naipin pesantren, where he was born,[3] where he was taught to teach, trained pencak silat, and accustomed to always be aware of the circumstances around him.[1]
