Abdullah bin Abbas is the cousin of Prophet Muhammad SAW. He was the son of Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib and Umm al-Fadl Lubaba. The father of Abdullah, is the beloved uncle of Prophet Muhammad SAW. When the Prophet Muhammad SAW died, Abbas was the one who felt the most lonely at his passing.
The figure of Ibn Abbas has been known to be familiar with the Prophet Muhammad SAW since childhood. With him, he grew into a person who has a strong character and nature.
Once upon a time, Ibn Abbas was filled with a great curiosity about how the Prophet Muhammad prayed. Until he deliberately stayed at the house of his aunt, Maimunah bint Al-Harith who is the wife of Prophet Muhammad SAW.
Until the middle of the night, he heard the Prophet Muhammad SAW wake up to perform prayers. He also rushed to fetch water for the provision of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. How surprised he was when he found Ibn Abbas still awake and provide water for him.
Happiness boomed in the heart of Prophet Muhammad SAW at that time. He once prayed to Abdullah bin Abbas, "O Allah, give him understanding in the field of religion and give him knowledge of the law (translation)."
From this prayer, Abdullah bin Abbad is also known as a tafsir. He also narrates many hadiths, not less than the companions of Prophet Muhammad SAW as well as other hadith narrators, such as Abu Hurairah, Anas bin Malik, and others.
