That night we were just about to leave, Oom Jaka had already dropped my suitcase into the basement and put it on my bike, and we were just about to get out of the house when the last-minute sound of the rain on the precarious started to sound, making us stifled and undoing our intention to leave.
What can we do, time keeps us locked up here. Back upstairs, Oom Jaka volunteered to make some warm tea. "Change of plans" he said. "Maybe a cup of warm tea can accompany us tonight."
"I'll make it," I said.
"No, Honey. When your feet are healed, you can do it all. But now, I can handle this one thing, okay?"
"All right," I said, raising my shoulders and smiling sweetly at him. "Then think of it as your own home."
While nodding and smiling back, Oom Jaka left the tv room, returning a few minutes later with two cups of tea and a plate of coconut biscuits he found in the kitchen, while I was already relaxing on the sofa.
With a smile, Oom Jaka put the tray in his hand on the table, then he gave a warm cup of tea to my hand. "The sweet tea is warm for a long night" he said.
"Thank you" I said. I was just about to sip my tea, but suddenly there was a power outage.
Oh, again. Is this a sign nature is blessing us?
But in the end I grumbled because the space around us became so dark that I could not see the face of Oom Jaka who was very close to me. More unfortunately, my phone is already stored in my handbag that I put in the motorcycle seat.
"My phone was left in the kitchen" said Oom Jaka.
But, before he made his way to the kitchen, lightning struck along with earth-splitting lightning, and I could see a battery-one LED candle at the bottom of my tv rack.
"Oom," I said suddenly, "there's an LED candle on the tv rack, can you please get it?"
Immediately the man stood up, walked and fumbled towards the television. The next second the LED candle was already lit. I was a little relieved even though a moment later the lightning boomed, making me jolt in horror. And just at that moment, Oom Jaka was sitting next to me.
I'm riveted. Mutely. My body felt warm, like it was melting when he put his hand on my body and rested my head on his chest. "You scared?" tanyakanya.
I'm shaking. That peace touched my soul. And, the presence of Oom Jaka made me feel like I was not a kara anymore in this world. I wish I could tell her that I want us to get married so that what I feel right now is not just a feeling, but a reality. I want to have him as my family. But I knew, he would definitely give the same answer: he wanted to solve all his problems first.
"Darling?"
"Emm?"
"I.. emm... I mean, if I can, I want you... call me by another name, please?"
Eh?
Somewhat surprised, I practically immediately released myself from his embrace. And without my help, a big smile immediately adorned my face. "Emm. sure. But... I should... call you by what name?"
He raised his shoulders, and smiled shyly. "Whatever," he said. "what do you think? For sure I want to be in accordance with our identity. We are West Javanese despite having mixed blood. For instance... Aak, maybe? I'd be happy if you called me. with that name."
Ahaha!
I can't help it, I'm laughing. Fortunately, not to the point. The point is he wants me to call him Aak and not call him Oom anymore. But he was too long-winded. But, yeah, I get it. There is still awkwardness between us and each other.
"alright. I'll call you... Aak."
"Thank you, dear."
"Yes. You welcome... Ak."
A happy smile emanated from his face. The smile made both of his eyes narrow, barely staying in line.
"It looks like it's going to rain for a long time" I said, and... Ak Jaka, my lover agreed. He thinks the rain will last long tonight.
Maybe until morning. And I started not to care. Maybe everyday stuff is okay we're locked up here. I have my own gratitude because I am not alone now.
I took off my shoes and sat on my feet because I was uncomfortable with my feet that had not fully healed. Then something came up in my mind and I gasped. "Oh, yeah!"
He looked at me worriedly. "What's wrong?"
"That mm, about Luna. Does he know that the one with him yesterday was your twin?"
She shook her head. "Eitherway. I don't know."
"Emm. Look, if I may judge, Luna seems to have a special feeling for you, I mean. That's my opinion."
"I'm worried that he will too. If it's true that he has feelings for you, it must be easy for that guy to trick Luna, right? We'd better tell him right away. We'll call."
Ak Jaka's hand caught my hand before I could grab my wand, to grab our cell phone.
"No," he said. "Don't." His black eyes showed a pleading look. "We don't have to do that, do we?"
His fingers that were clutching mine felt moist. In the dim lighting of the electric candle, I could see the anxious look on the man's face, I could see the muscles twitching in his jaw. Butwhy? What was?
"What he did was not right. Pity Luna if she's a victim of that man, too."
"I know," he said. He nodded. "But can we not interfere?"
"Why? Do you support your brother's actions? Which he did.. oh!" I gasped backwards.
Ak Jaka grinned, feeling astonished. "What's? Why is your expression so? I don't support him. I know what he did was wrong. But...."
"No. Back off!" I said, I was worried.
"Hey, Wulan? What's up?"
"Don't there be no twin? Did you trick me?"
"Oh, jeez...! Baby, why do you even think that?"
"Then why? Why don't you try to stop your twin brother from doing it? Doesn't that ruin your good name?"
Ak Jaka shook his head. "I knew. But I told you on the phone, I already made a report to the police that the one who acted like that was my twin and not me. The police have responded to this. But that doesn't mean the police are on my side. I don't have enough evidence to prove that I didn't do it. If the police don't believe me, how are the girls?"
"I knew. I-i know. But if we warn Luna, at least she will take care of herself, right? She won't be the next victim."
Ak Jaka took my hand back. "Calm down. Okay well? Here." He pulled me closer. "I can't contact Luna let alone meet."
"Why?"
"There's a reason."
"Yes, but what?"
For a moment he hesitated, but he finally spoke. "The last time we spoke, I hurt her."
Huh huh? I glare.
"He expressed his feelings for me. And I flatly rejected it. She cried, and just left me. And now somehow he can relate well to my twin. I'm sure he thought it was me. And if I see him, he'll say that I'm just saying nonsense to hurt his heart again. That means free."
Argha! I'm so pissed off. "Then are we going to let something bad happen to Luna?"
"Maybe it happened."
"Maybe not yet."
"Darling...."
"There may be hope."
"Enough, okay? You don't know Luna well enough. And don't be so kind to others, can you hear me?"
I'm nodding. "But... it feels... wrong...?"
"Wulan, honey, I don't want you to be on too good terms with Luna. I don't want you to have the same fate as the dead girl. Luna was released from prison, that did not mean she could be declared completely clean. I don't want him to do the same to you. Especially if he finds out about our relationship later, your life could be threatened."
Oh, my God, it wasn't Luna....
"You know what I'm thinking? If only no other witnesses had seen the incident, it could have been you in prison. Thankfully not, right? Now that you listen to me, you don't try to be a hero if it's going to make you drown in trouble. I beg you, huh? Rather than inviting trouble, you better now go to the room and sleep. Listen to me, please?"
Worryingly. How should I behave? Should I remain silent, leave the guilty Wenny in safety, and leave the innocent Luna in the grip of danger instead?
