Cambodian Ward

Cambodian Ward
Chapter 9 ~ Ghost In Elevator

Our working hours are over, I've lined my work uniform with a jacket and carried the bag out of the ward joining the others waiting for the elevator. Because of the shift change, of course from the top of the elevator is full. The building where I am is twenty floors. Sometimes you have to wait long enough to get down.

“Yah no load.”

"The objection of sin."

“Galah dong.”

Rather than a disheveled debate no one would budge, the auu got out of the elevator because the iron box was overloaded. Just look left right out of fear that I'm the only one waiting.

“Gue said also together, where the hell to rush very,” taunted Andra.

“Ck, I'm tired. Tired of seeing a lot of weirdness,” I replied softly.

“What else do you see?”

I flinch, it feels like talking about supernatural beings is like inviting them to come closer. I finally ignored Andra's question.

“The story is silent.”

“Your vision of the incident in the ward, is there any clue?”

Andra shook her head then pointed at the left elevator which was open and empty.

“So curious, but scared,” I replied then quietly, on the next floor there was someone who entered the elevator and immediately stood in front of the door to turn my back to me and Andra.

My gaze stared at the screen that showed the movement of the elevator, suddenly Andra touched my hand and then retreated and close the body on the elevator wall.

Just now I will ask why, Andra pointed at the person who had joined on the twelfth floor. I noticed that there was nothing strange about the person, just like people in general. There's a head, hands and feet.

Wait, I sharpened my vision to make sure that those two people's legs.

“Ssttt.” Andra put her index finger in front of her lips, while I was reading prayers.

Since then a person or ghost was indeed subjecting his face and now the body was shaking and sounding sobbing.

“I where?”

“Where is my family?”

"You want to accompany me?"

I close my body to Andra and even grips the jacket she's wearing. Whether the guts of what Andra had, the man seemed unafraid even ordinary.

“Mbak .. mas.”

“Whispering!” peekik Andra's. “Your place is not here.”

The lighting in the elevator suddenly turned flickering-proof.

“Ndra, this is why?”I cried even with a trembling voice

“Go and don't disturb us,” shouted Andra.

I did not dare to look forward, despite having a quick glance at the appearance of the female ghost changing. The white clothes were worn like nurse uniforms and had faded. The increasingly tense atmosphere made my skin shudder creeps while the figure snickered.

My mouth continued to say prayers and I had my face buried in Andra's arm. I am thankful in my heart for not being alone.

The creature again sniggered

I heard Andra reading the holy verse.

The creature again giggled and screamed.

“They are evil, there will be more victims,” said the creature then back to sniggering. Somehow the look on his face was because I only heard a voice.

Andra chanted a firmer prayer, the light that initially blinked was dead. I screamed for wind while we were in the elevator.

The lights came back bright, I was still in fear and Andra stopped her prayer. At this moment only the breath of Andra was heard.

“A-I'm scared.”

“She's gone.”

I slowly turned my head towards the door, sure enough that the creature was no longer there. Either what kind of ghost, maybe kuntilanak or ….

“What a ghost was a pockmarked nurse, I did not see her face.”

Andra shook her head, the man's gaze fixed on the screen where the elevator floor was located. The number thirteen and the number is blinking. Me and Andra looked at each other, meaning we were still on the thirteenth floor.

Brakes

The elevator door suddenly opened. The Cambodian ward looks lonely with the door tightly closed. The lights in front of the ward, including in the elevator, came back to life dead as if damaged or short.

I clasped Andra's cold hand. We are both afraid.

“Ndra.”

“Come out, we have to go out,” Andra said. “Gue count to three. One, two ...three.” Andra and I ran out of the elevator screaming. Right after we got out, the elevator went down quickly as if it was falling.

“Astagfirullah, almost aja.”

I was speechless, my hands still clasping tightly onto Andra's.

The sound of goods falling down, it seemed like the elevator had already crashed on the first floor. The lights came back bright, from the left side of the ward came out some of the patients' families who heard the commotion.

“What's the Mas?”

“Mbak why?”

“Lift falls,” Andra said while pointing towards the elevator.

“Ndra, did the ghost earlier give us a warning?” I looked up because more and more people were in front of the ward.

“Maybe, it looks like this is just the beginning. I don't know what's going to happen, but it feels so strong.”

“I want to go home.”

“You use the elevator?” ask Andra while chuckling.

I hit his arm slowly and shook my head.

“Measure descending via emergency stairs?”

“Indeed there are other options, come before it gets crowded. There we will be asked all kinds.”

Me and Andra finally used the emergency stairs. Our one and two floors are still strong, only until the sixth floor step we have been slow and heavy.

Andra who had been humming had been silent since. Just heard our breaths also footsteps.

“Floor six,” my word.

The sound of the iron door closing loud made quite a noise and the sound came from above us.

“Ndra.”

“Ayo street. The sixth floor was the operating room and NICU PICU, it must have been quiet. You want to go there?”

“Ogah.”

I rushed down the stairs to the fifth floor, where I was on duty before the Cambodian ward. Again we heard the sound of the emergency exit. Arriving at the fourth floor, Andra pulled me out through the emergency exit.

“I swear, I'm tired,” complained Andra.

I looked around. Because it's almost twelve in the night. There were people waiting in front of the elevator. We joined after believing they were human.

Arriving on the first floor, many security personnel and technicians overcame the elevator that fell from the thirteenth floor. Lucky there were no casualties, but if Andra and I didn't get out soon we might have.
