I opened the onigiri package I bought near the dorm. I didn't have time for breakfast. If indeed my proposal is not accepted by Prof Ben, as soon as possible I will return to Jakarta, because I think this internship program wastes my time. I have a big project in my life. Become a famous novelist. There is not even a single word I have typed for my writing. I chewed my onigiri while sighing a long sigh.
“Yayai, to my room now.” Prof Ben's orders. He wears a neat work suit. Face beaming. Handsome but I feel like throwing a laptop in front of me. I actually didn't voice her. It's just that the staff who were there were laughing at me.
“Sawaatdee, Khun Ben.” Some staff also cupped his palms together, greeting him. I had to stand up, put my onigir, and cupped my palms together while chewing.
I think because Prof Ben uses Indonesian, it must be on me.
“Did he talked to me before?” ask me on the beautiful female staff sitting in front of me.
“I guess. Do you know that he called you Yayai?”
I'm shaking.
“It’s mean grandma.” chirps the rest of the staff and the whole room chuckles.
I made my smile. Maybe my face was red. Unsure of being embarrassed the whole room laughed at me or angry at being called grandma. I walked quickly to Prof Ben's room which was actually a little far away, had to pass through a rather long hallway, then a turn, and the room was in its own corner. Slender.
“What's up, Prof?” I asked when I was standing right in front of him. He had already opened his suit and was hanging behind him. He saw some of my worksheets. Might as well. What I do when I'm overtime.
“Why did you choose the cemetery bus in Soi Sayud? Previously you chose a grave?”
“So, this is my first trial. So I thought there was no harm in me making a mediocre program first. Looking for some bus or vehicle accident and where the passenger died in the vehicle.” explained me.
“You want to check there tonight?” tanyakanya.
I'm choked. Checking over there? How disgusting! Another night! If he told me to check this afternoon, there would be no problem.
“Sorry, Prof. If I was told to go there at night, I think..”.
“I accompany.” He cut off my refusal as if knowing I refused his orders.
I widened my eyes. I don't want to take any chances. He can bully me again. I'm in a mess.
“You research first, which bus or vehicle was an accident. We will come to.”
“Must be night-night huh, Prof?”
“Me and you are still a lot of work today. After doing your research, you go to the production team. Meet Mr. Thor.”
“Ya, fine, Prof.”
I turned around leaving him. Sit back at my desk and take the laptop seriously. Long enough I searched for information related to the subject requested by Prof Ben because of language constraints. I had to trouble some staff to talk to some of my informants on the phone. After that I went to the production room and met Mr. Thor. I was waiting for him for half an hour because he was having lunch and saw Prof Ben at the break while watching the running broadcasts.
Mr.'s Return. Thor, I was taught how to conceptualize a program until the day of filming. I actually have experienced this. Interned at a Private TV station because of my major. Maybe because of his disinterest I work busy myself like this, I prefer to imagine and pour my imagination in writing. Mr. Thor gave me some of the same concepts as my program in the form of episodes that have been running for a year and are in production. He said the program was the highest-rated program.
“If you want to see, maybe you can join me now.” invite Mr. Thor.
“May I? Maybe I will ask Khun Ben before.
“Aaah, Khun Ben!” call Mr. Thor on Prof Ben who happened to be passing by and chatting with some of the staff. Prof Ben stopped and looked at us and walked over to us. Mr. Thor said that can I be invited to go see the filming of a program or not? And Mr. Thor also offered Prof Ben to check the filming because lately there have been technical problems with the tool problems he must know. Unfortunately, Prof Ben is.
“You've done your research?” ask Prof Ben as we head to the set. He drives his own car.
“Already.”
“After from the set, we went there because it was quite far away and stuck.” he said again.
I hope it's not until the night.
Apparently, the time has shown at 5 pm. I don't know what he observed and complained to the entire filming crew. He's working too hard. While I still stick with Mr. Thor. Fortunately Mr. Thor is very relaxed. All day long, I was just observing, taking down some notes I made myself on my phone, and documenting.
Honestly, every day I feel why I follow Tasya's advice to Bangkok and follow this program. I'm like a granny as Prof Ben has nicknamed me ever since I worked with him. When I talked to Mr. Thor, Prof Ben cut our conversation. He said he and I should go somewhere else again. Yes, definitely to Soi Sayud. Almost night.
“We buy a flashlight first.” said Prof Ben when he entered a large market area for carpentry tools. I followed Prof Ben who only wore a shirt, his tie was removed, his suit was not worn. I didn't see it this morning. I simply followed him walking through the halls while searching the hallway of the flashlight.
“You choose which flashlight you want to use.” Prof Ben told me when we stopped in a hallway where there were many different kinds of flashlights on the shelves.
“Bby?” I accidentally smiled happily. The smile I gave her today. Nope. These are the few days since he became my mentor. I walked around looking at the flashlight, held it, checked it, and saw the price. While Prof Ben also looked at the flashlight but only saw it. “Prof, one thousand eighty-two bath how many rupiah?” I suddenly asked him.
Prof Ben saw me. Slightly shocked might be asked about the rupiah exchange rate at that time. He seemed to think for a moment.
“About five hundred thousand less.” the answer is quick. “Why?”
“Got expensive huh! But this is the best flashlight. There is a price there is a look.” my own chirps.
“Take it. Take two.” tell it.
“Do not, this one only.” I took a flashlight for 30 baths and two flashlights.
“Do you still want to buy?”
“Neither.” I'm shaking. I just need a flashlight.
(Ben)
As Yayai walked towards the cashier, I quickly picked up two expensive flashlights and put them in the grocery basket as the flashlight was rather heavy. Yayai was still in line, I was standing right behind her. When he put the cheap flashlight down, I quickly put the flashlight away and replaced it with his preferred flashlight at the beginning.
“Loh, Prof. It's costliness. Make what?”
“I want to buy it.”
Yayai did not speak anymore. She was just astonished and shrugged her shoulders like saying ‘Yes have already’ me. When I closed the car door and finished buying a flashlight, I heard the sound of Yayai's stomach. He looked embarrassed and stared at me.
Right, I haven't eaten anything since noon. He noticed? I drove the car to my restaurant. It just so happens to be halfway to our goal, Soi Sayud. Inside the restaurant, Yayai looked at the menu carefully and frowned.
“Prof, can it be translated?” He gave me a menu book. I forgot he couldn't read Thai. I smiled at him. He was shocked to see my smile for the first time. “I can eat anything. If you can get a large portion. I am hungry once.” he said again shyly while holding his stomach. Finally I ordered him two meals for me and for him.
When the order came, he actually ate quickly. As for me, eat quietly while looking at my tab. See some work I need to monitor.
“Prof, I'm done.” He wiped his mouth with a napkin.
“Do you chew all your food?”
“Cuny, Prof.” He looked up at my bowl and shook his head quickly.
“If you want to walk now. Come.”
“The meal is not finished yet, his name is Prof.” intercept him while pointing towards my bowl.
“I'm not too hungry.” I told you.
“But it's still a lot.” surprised.
I gave my cue to stand up and finally left the dining table. Yayai ran quickly over to the cashier. After paying, I walked to the parking lot and started the car engine. Yayai followed me obediently. On the way, Yayai and I didn't talk too much. He looked out the window a lot. Either I'm lazy to start first or he's a little shy of me. Though my curiosity is very big on Yayai.
We entered an area called the bus carcass grave. Where this place in addition to unused or damaged buses, many other vehicles. The place is dark. We walked down the street and saw a post made of containers. I turned off the car engine but kept the car lights on to make it look bright. Yayai was ready to hold both flashlights. I knocked on the container door and a little while we waited for the door to open. It seems like there is no one.
“Have you contacted anyone here?” my many.
“Already. There was a staff earlier this afternoon who helped me talk.” he replied.
I looked around and it was completely dark. Then, we just walk to check about a few meters there. I pointed at the invisible dark atmosphere. Surprisingly, Yayai's face was pale back then. I thought because he was scared and I was walking in the lead while holding my own flashlight.
“What was your idea for this?” I started asking about the program he offered.
“Hmmm, maybe.. we can invite people related to some accidents whose vehicles were dumped here.” replied Yayai. Breathing violently.
“You have researched about those accidents?”
“Hah, already Prof.”
“Color impression or so that your program does not seem scary what part of it like?” I walked around looking. There's no answer. I didn't even hear Yayai's footsteps behind me. I automatically looked back and I saw Yayai bowed. Breathing's tight. The flashlight fell down. I immediately ran to him.
“Yayai? You why?” I held her shoulder. I still hear her breathing faltering. Sweat came out of his forehead. Face pale. I dropped my flashlight too. Then he collapsed. I quickly caught his body. Yayai pulled my shirt, like she was going to die. I panicked too. I grabbed the falling flashlight and pointed the flashlight towards us. So that I can see Yayai clearly.
I ended up laying Yayai on the ground and started an artificial breath for her. My lips finally met her lips. I don't know why, her mouth was so sweet. Sweet mint candy. Looks like he took the candy in my car and ate it. I exhaled oxygen through his mouth many times. Waiting for him to react and calm down. Then do it back, giving artificial breath. I don't know how many times I've given him artificial breath and Yayai grabs a flashlight nearby. He moved my body away with his hands. His breathing is back to normal.
“Yayai, how? What's up?” much worry. I cupped both my hands to his face.
She looks embarrassed. Nope. Piqued. His face doesn't seem to like me.
“Yayai?”
He tried to stand up. He ignored my hand that was about to help him stand up.
“Prof sorry. I can't continue if Prof keeps going in that direction. I'll wait in the car. Or I'll come back tomorrow. Tomorrow morning.” he said ketus.
“Good.”
I walk behind him. Noticed it. Who knows if he fell back. When we got back to the car, there were two men waiting in front of the car. I had a little chat with them. When I finished, I got into the car and found Yayai asleep.
Along the way back to the dorm, Yayai did not budge in the slightest. He's still asleep. Until I parked my car in front of the dorm building, waiting for him to wake up. I waited for him a long time.
“Prof?” She's surprised. He looked around and realized that he had arrived at the dorm. Then he looked at his watch. “Sorry. I...”
“Rest.” I said. “See you tomorrow. Your job is a lot tomorrow. I've helped put the schedule together in your e-mail.”
He took his phone from the bag and checked it.
“I will read. Thank you, Prof.”
The next morning, the,
I didn't see Yayai at all. Usually when I come in, he's already sitting at his desk eating something or his chin up looking at his laptop. As I sat in my chair, in the room I got an e-mail coming in from Yayai. He had a lot of ideas at the time. He did his job well. But there was something strange, until noon before I really didn't see him enter the office. Only then did I realize that he never came until the afternoon.
“Prof, sorry. I'm Bima's roommate, this afternoon Bima had checked out of the dorm. Maybe want to go back to Jakarta.” An oriental-faced, long-haired woman came up to me, when I was in the production room.
“Back to Jakarta? Why?” I frowned.
“It looks like there's a sudden affair, Prof.”
I looked at the reason this woman had about Yayai. Yayai should have told me about this.
“Oke, thank you. Did he go back to Jakarta or...do you know the proof of the ticket trip? Because I don't want anything from candidates by the program I'm holding.” I said ketus. This long haired woman seemed to be confused.
“Mbak Bima just chat me at twelve this afternoon. He just said he had checked out of the dorm because there was a sudden business in Jakarta. Means... seems like today directly back to Jakarta.” explained Claudia.
I'm nodding.
“Good thanks infonya.”
I left this long-haired oriental female candidate in the production room. He seemed to be thinking, would his roommate be in trouble or not? Because my face implies displeasure at hearing this news. Indeed indeed. I don't like. I picked up the phone and contacted Levi to find out Yayai's whereabouts at the moment.
