Istikharah prayer: is a prayer that can be practiced if a Muslim is asking for guidance to Allah SWT when hesitated in making a choice. His presentation has been described in the hadith of the Prophet as a reference to the procedure, prayer, and the time of its execution.

In a hadith narrated by Jabir RA, he said:

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعَلِّمُنَا الِاسْتِخَارَةَ فِي الْأُمُورِ كُلِّهَا كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا السُّورَةَ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ يَقُولُ إِذَا هَمَّ أَحَدُكُمْ بِالْأَمْرِ فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ مِنْ غَيْرِ الْفَرِيضَةِ ثُمَّ لِيَقُلْ

Meaning: "Rasulullah SAW taught his friends to pray istikharah in every business as he taught letters from the Qur'an. He said: "If one of you intends to do business, then do two rakaat prayers that are not obligatory prayers, then pray," (HR Bukhari).

Based on the book Miracle Prayer Istikharah compiled by Muhammad Abu Ayyash, there are several arguments that show the happiness of a Muslim is when submitting his choice to Allah SWT. Here is the sound of the hadith:

A. The Istikharah Prayer

Istikharah comes from Arabic which means to ask for goodness at something. In a sense, Istikharah prayer is prayer to ask God to choose the best thing according to him.

As explained earlier, the law of praying isikharah is sunnah. This is based on the scholars who have agreed related to the law of istikharah.

B. Best Time to Pray Istikharah

Istikharah prayers can be performed at any time as long as they are done outside the forbidden times for prayer. However, the secret of Istikharah prayer is some of the best times to pray Istikharah.

The best time to practice Istikharah prayers is usually done on one third of the night, just like tahajud prayers. As mentioned in the hadith of the Prophet SAW, at that time included in the times of prayer mustajab.

يَنْزِلُ رَبُّنَا تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا حِينَ يَبْقَى ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الآخِرُ يَقُولُ: مَنْ يَدْعُونِي، فَأَسْتَجِيبَ لَهُ مَنْ يَسْأَلُنِي فَأُعْطِيَهُ، مَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُنِي فَأَغْفِرَ لَهُ

It means: "Our rabb descends into the skies of the world at the end of the third night of each night. Then I said, 'The one who prays to Me I will grant, the one who asks Me for something I will give, the one who asks for My forgiveness I will forgive" (HR Bukhari and Muslim).

In addition to the time of one third of the night, the book also mentions, other times of the Istikharah prayer Some of them such as, before dawn, between azan and iqomah, at the end of obligatory prayer, when it rains, such as, and at night lailatul qadar.

C. The Istikharah Prayer System

How to perform the prayer istikharah is the same as other prayers. It's just that, the prayer istikharah consists of two rakaat and one salam.

The difference with other prayers is in the intention and there are some additional prayers in the prayer istikharah. 

That's what I learned over the course of a week over and over again. Tonight is already an even week of learning about Istikharah prayers.

Tonight dara woke up at two in the morning, he performed the tahajud prayer and his prayer, the witir prayer and his prayer, only the last Istikharah prayer. After the prayer, he prayed very specifically.

Prayer After Istikharah Prayer

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْتَخِيْرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ، وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيْمِ، فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلَا أَقْدِرُ، وَتَعْلَمُ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ، وَأَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوْبِ. اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هٰذَا اْلأَمْرَ .... خَيْرٌ لِيْ فِيْ دِيْنِيْ وَمَعَاشِيْ وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِيْ فَاقْدُرْهُ لِيْ وَيَسِّرْهُ لِيْ ثُمَّ بَارِكْ لِيْ فِيْهِ، وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هٰذَا اْلأَمْرَ شَرٌّ لِيْ فِيْ دِيْنِيْ وَمَعَاشِيْ وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِيْ فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّيْ وَاصْرِفْنِيْ عَنْهُ وَاقْدُرْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُ كَانَ ثُمَّ أَرْضِنِيْ بِهِ

Latin reading: Allahumma inni astakhiru bi 'ilmika, wa astaqdiruka bi qudratika, wa as-aluka min fadhlika, fa innaka taqdiru wa laa aqdiru, wa ta'lamu wa laa a'lamu, wa anta 'allaamul ghuyub. Allahumma fa-in kunta ta'lamu hadzal amro (mentioning the question) khoiron lii fii 'aajili amrii wa aajilih (aw fii dinii wa ma'aasyi wa 'aqibati amrii) faqdur lii, wa yassirhu lii, tsumma baarik lii. Allahumma in kunta ta'lamu annahu syarrun lii fii dini wa ma'aasyi wa 'aqibati amrii (fii 'aajili amri wa aajilih) fash-rifnii 'anhu, waqdur liil khoiro haitsu kana tsumma rodh-dhinii bih.

It means: "O Allah, I ask You for the right choice with Your knowledge and I ask for Your power (for my soul mate's business) with Your omnipotence. I ask You something of Your Greatest Grace, indeed You are Almighty, while I am powerless, You know, I do not know and You are All Knowing of the Unseen. O Allah, if You know that this affair (if my soul mate Artanto) is better in my religion, and the consequences for me succeed for me, ease the way, then give blessings. But if You know that this question is more dangerous to me in religion, economy and its consequences to me, then get rid of it, and keep me away from it, do not foredo good for me wherever it may be, and give it to me."

Dara cried in her prayer because her heart also hurt as she complained all the problems to the creator.
