One Night Without Love

One Night Without Love
07 - Police Report

Jamie circulated his gaze as soon as he entered the police station that looked so crowded.

He walked down the dimly lit corridor with the scent of sharp tobacco, whereas in every closed glass door was attached a smoking ban sticker.

This is the first time Jamie has set foot in a police station. As much as possible Jamie is trying not to deal with law enforcement. Except when he was ticketed by the police for being caught wet not wearing a helmet when piggybacking three in the school era.

Jamie has to go to the police who can help him find the person he's looking for. The man who should be in charge of the seeds embedded in his womb.

Jamie pushed through one of the dark glass doors at the end of the corridor that was so quiet and silent.

"Excuse me!"

Jamie scanned the dimly lit room. A small room with four cluttered work tables forms the letter u. Two policemen wearing white shirts with black pants looked up from their laptop screens as soon as the guests arrived.

"Yes, please sit down!" said one of the police officers with a sour face.

"What are you doing?" ask the others with a fierce face expression.

Jamie's guts shrieked, the piercing look clearly making him tremble.

"Search for missing persons?" the sour-faced policeman guessed.

Jamie nodded timidly.

The sour-faced policeman handed Jamie a form.

"Fill in and give me your identity card" the policeman ruled.

Jamie frowned as he read the missing persons application form provided by the police. In the form, Jamie is asked to fill in the name of the person he is looking for

Jamie doesn't even know the guy's name. They don't even know each other.

"It's not really lost, sir," Jamie said.

"meaning?" the fierce face chimed.

Jamie pulled out a piece of face sketch paper he had already made.

"I-I'm looking for this guy!"

The two policemen stared at the sketch of the face Jamie had made.

The eyebrows both wrinkled together.

This woman must be kidding! Their inner.

"Sir, if you're looking for comics, it's not here. In the bookstore!" the fierce-faced policeman chuckled.

"I usually draw like this" said Jamie.

The two policemen looked at each other again.

"Yes whatever! Now fill out the form!"

...*****...

Two policemen standing guard in the room forced their sour expressions when they saw the arrival of a petite woman who had been almost three weeks regularly visiting their office.

Every day the woman came at the same hour, waiting for a full day at the police station to find out the progress of the search for someone.

The woman came with a sketch of a man's face. The man who according to the woman's confession has brought a collection of shoes that will be exhibited at a fashion show.

After going through a series of testing that is quite tiring, in the end the police are willing to help the process of searching for the man.

"So how's the search progress, sir?" ask Jamie.

Mr. Agus and Mr. Irwan, the two officers who handled the search for the person Jamie asked for, again had to put on a sour expression.

"Mbak Jamie," said Mr. Agus while giving the code to Mr. Irwan.

"Finding the person is not easy, it takes a process, especially if only capitalized on facial sketches," said Mr. Agus.

"That's right, Ma'am," continued Mr. Irwan. "Our team has done their best. But keep in mind, it's not just Jamie's looking for people, there are still many others we have to help."

Jamie gulped his saliva, how long should he wait? What is it until the child is born?

"Sir, but can it be quickened? I don't have much time" Jamie said.

Agus and Irwan looked at each other again.

"Mb Jamie, why don't you try to search via social media? Not on social media faster viral huh?" proposed Mr. Irwan.

"Oh sir, if I could search on social media, I wouldn't have asked the police for help!" lamented Jamie.

Jamie certainly can't use social media. He did not want his friends to know what was happening to him.

Sleeping with a foreign man, then getting pregnant without knowing who the biological father of his child is clearly a disgrace to Jamie.

That Aib should be covered instead of boasted, which is why Jamie chose not to take advantage of social media.

"Sir, I beg you very much, help me find this man," Jamie pleaded as she pointed at the sketch of the man's face she drew.

Jamie must find the man soon. He even returned to the city where he was on vacation. The place where all the bad things that happened to him started. It has been more than three weeks in this city while experiencing the first three semesters of pregnancy is definitely very hard for Jamie. Thankfully, Julie was able to help him when Julie got home from work.

"Excuse me, sir."

A man approached Pak Agus and Mr. Irwan.

"I want to ask, to make a loss report where is it?" ask the man kindly.

"What's missing, Mom?" ask Mr. Irwan.

"Savings book" replied the man.

"Sir, help me, sir," Jamie pleaded again. "Please find this man, my fate in the future is determined by this man."

The man turned his head towards Jamie, his eyes instantly fixed on the sketch paper Jamie was holding.

"Mas, can you come with me?" bring Mr. Agus.

"Okay sir" replied the man.

The man immediately sat opposite Agus. Again his eyes were fixed on the sketch of the face that was on the desk of Mr. Agus.

"Whose name, Mom?" ask Mr. Agus.

"Keny" replied the man.

"Can I borrow his identity card?"

The man named Keny handed over his identity card.

How do you feel familiar with this sketch of a face? Inner Keny while taking a sketch paper from the table Mr. Agus.

"Sorry sir, if you may know, what is this face sketch used for?" ask Keny carefully.

"Oh, Ma'am who's ahead there looking for people but only capitalized on this sketch of a face. Why Mas? Mas familiar?" ask Mr. Agus.

"If people's faces are usually a lot of similar ones, right" replied Keny.

"Yes, it's like that, especially if the face of the market!" sahut Pak Agus's.

But for Keny, the face in the sketch was definitely not the face of the market.

"Why is this man wanted, sir?" ask Keny.

"The boy was looking for the man who had brought his shoes. He said the shoes were to be taken where they are," said Mr. Agus while struggling in front of the computer.

The shoe? Inner Keny.

...*****...

Jamie's still waiting in the waiting room at the police station. His determination was already unanimous, on this last day, he should have gotten information about the man. He doesn't want to bother Julie any longer, especially while in this city, Jamie hitchhiking at Julie's house.

Jamie really couldn't go back to her parents' house before bringing in the man who had left the seed in her womb.

I don't know what Jamie would do to that man if he could see each other again. For sure Jamie has to hold the man accountable.

"Excuse me."

The greeting of someone who approached Jamie made Jamie turn towards the presenter.

Jamie instantly scanned the man's appearance, wearing a black flannel shirt with beige cargo pants. The smell of the man's perfume made Jamie's stomach turn nauseous.

"Ughhh!" Jamie closed his mouth quickly. "Ehem, yes," Jamie replied.

"Excuse me, Ma'am, I want to ask you about the sketch of the face of the person you're looking for" the man said kindly.

"Oh yeah, do you know him?" ask Jamie.

"Hmm, I know some people who may be similar to this sketch" the man replied.

"Oh so," said Jamie.

"Include me, my name is Keny" the man reached out his hand.

"I'm Jamie" Jamie replied.

"Oh, Jamie Ma'am," the man repeated. "By the way, why are you looking for this guy?"

"So I heard from the police, but I think it's better to hear directly from Jamie" Keny continued.

"Oh, that..," Jamie's stuck.

Jamie hesitates to explain, especially to strangers. But since the man looks curious, maybe Jamie should explain.

"Look, I lost a very valuable pair of shoes, and I remember clearly, that I left them to this man. And I intend to take back my precious shoes" Jamie said.

"Shoes? What kind of shoes?" ask Keny.

Jamie took his smart device and showed him a photo of him wearing the shoes he meant.

Keny frowned, the shoes looked familiar.

"This shoe is very valuable to me, it's a gift shoe from my brother who was bought wearing his first salary" continued Jamie.

"I know, I must have been very exaggerated, just because my shoes had to be like this. People think it's just shoes! I can buy again! But, I can't be so. Everything that other people give, has its own meaning and means a lot to me" Jamie said.

"Ehem, so yes," said Keny.

Jamie nodded quickly.

"Do you know anything?" ask Jamie.

"Yes, it seems so, if I don't get it wrong," Keny replied.

"Sir, please show me! If it's wrong, it doesn't matter, the important thing is to try first, rather than doing nothing!" said Jamie enthusiastically.

"Well, I'll come to the police station again" Keny suggested.

"No, Sir! I'm coming with you!"
