Promises From the Past

Promises From the Past
Dirgan Mavendra

Marquis, Massachusetts....

An elite residential area inhabited by American conglomerates with prices ranging from hundreds of thousands of US Dollars to millions of dollars. It also includes the cheapest house with a simple model, two floors, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, terrace and has a fairly spacious yard around it.

Of course the price is so fantastic because the model of the house of the topnotch architect, the type of quality building materials and also the cost of porters in America there exceeds the salary of the operational manager of a large company in Indonesia.

But for the Mavendra family, they spent tens of millions of dollars to buy a large three-story modern Mediterranean-style residence in the region

Millis, Massachusetts, is just like a dime because when compared to the total wealth of hundreds of billions of dollars.

This is where Rea is now, picked up by a private car owned by the family Mavendra, he was escorted to one of their homes which is not too far from Harvard University.

"Welcome Miss Rea...." All the servants bowed respectfully as Rea walked into the house.

"Yes... I'm home."

Until one middle-aged man came along, he was Hajrudin, the personal assistant of Rea's father who had been devoted to the Mavendra family for thirty years.

"Miss Rea let me bring you your luggage." Hajrudin said politely.

"It's not necessary Mr. Udin, it's just a small bag, not too heavy for me to carry myself."

"Well miss."

Rea looked around as if looking for something...."Where's dad...."

"Mr Dirgan is in the backyard, she's having tea with her guests." Answer Hajrudin.

Rea looks disappointed...."Guests?, who?, I think he came here to see me."

"Mr Dirgan does want to see you, miss, but he also has a reason why he suddenly came to America."

But Rea knows enough about her father ..."It shouldn't be strange, dad always travels all over the world on business, so going back and forth from America to Indonesia, just like every morning shits, is perfectly natural.... Forget it."

"Do I need to prepare tea while waiting for Mr. Dirgan to finish with his guest."

"May sir."

"Well, I'll get the lady ready."

Rea sat down in the living room while enjoying the herbal tea made by Mr. Hajrudin and started walking out towards the side terrace.

Four-color Anemone flower garden, koi carp pond, small baby statue fountain is ke*ncing and the atmosphere of the home environment is fairly quiet.

In this place they will not find noisy neighbors playing full-volume koplo music, or even a noisy familiar pot with thick smoke coughing.

Although the Mavendra family home is not far from urban, peace can be felt by anyone when enjoying the atmosphere different from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Rea walked around the fish pond, sprinkling small loaves of bread for them to eat. But from behind the door was already standing a middle-aged man in formal clothes in a suit and tie and had a neat haircut full of prestige.

It was Dirgan Mavendra who saw Rea playing around next to the fish pond. For the size of forty-year-old men more, Dirgan body firmly contains because it always maintains health with exercise.

It is clearly different from the picture of lazy corrupt officials who always sleep during parliamentary sessions with their distended stomachs because they are too full to eat illegal money.

Dirgan walked over to Rea..."Is it okay to live here Rea."

The question emerged from behind Rea's back, she immediately stood up and turned her body before answering it.

As if hesitating when it comes to looking into his father's eyes, it's all because Rea doesn't really know the figure of the person he's always called with that father.

"As expected of Harvard." A little smiling to appreciate.

"Yes dad...."

"So what about your studies, is everything smooth ?."

"There's no problem, maybe even at the end of this year, if my thesis is completed and passes the exam, I can pass." Answer Rea.

"That's faster than I thought, but let it be, aren't you interested in continuing your studies and taking other majors ?." Ask Dirgan.

"If you think it's necessary, I won't refuse." Rea could only obey what the father wanted.

Dirgan nodded her head...."Let's see it later."

Dirgan walked into the house, Rea followed behind without showing the happiness of a child who met his father after a long separation.

No gifts, no hugs or curved smiles on Rea's face, she bowed glumly, only answering when Dirgan asked, besides Rea was silent, more silent.

This scene is already common Rea see, walking behind and staring at the wide back of the father, even actually Rea forgot how his father's face was.

"But father .... "

"What's Rea doing ?." Dirgan asked.

Rea hesitated when she wanted to talk..."Sorry not to be a dad."

Dirgan seemed to understand if Rea was still holding back for what he wanted... "It's okay, just say it."

"It seems like I've had enough to study at Harvard, after graduation, I want to go back to Indonesia." Rea answered trying strongly to say his wish.

"Hmmm if that's what you want, but it doesn't seem like two years later you should stay in America... You can live in this house before you go home." Dirgan refused.

Rea couldn't take the answer from her father...."Why dad, it's been almost three years I've been in America, all I've done is study and study, so....."

"Didn't I forbid you to go home, it's just, there's a lot of trouble going on in the Mavendra family, I don't want you to get involved in this." Dirgan explained to Rea seriously.

"What's happening in our family."

"You don't have to think about it, you just finish your studies here and go home after all the problems are over." Reply Dirgan.

"But I'm also part of the Mavendra family."

"That's enough, don't talk about it now."

This is the reason why Dirgan sent Rea to study abroad, the problem that occurred in the Mavendra family itself is the internal conflict of fellow brothers.

Rea is Dirgan's weakness, he does not want his beloved daughter to be harmed if she has to be involved in a matter that endangers lives.

"And one more Rea, in a few days you're with me to attend a fundraiser."

"Good dad." Rea obediently replied.

Once again Rea could only obey what her father wanted, without being able to argue or refuse.
