One humid morning.
“You black coffee or use milk?” verina asked after handing over a pair of clothes and pants to her husband. Uniform of the company.
Timo just finished the shower shaking his head without a sound. He put on a shirt and then his pants.
“Do not want to drink?” ask Verita confused.
Timo. And also without sound.
“Breakfast?”
Timo shook his head again. Still with no sound. Verina sighed. It's not usually like this.
Only when early in the morning there is an event or cause late right. Two things that cause Timo not to eat breakfast at home. If not breakfast at home –because accompany company guests Timo would have asked to make coffee only. Black coffee or milk. But he prefers black coffee. “Live breakfast outside,” so often he said before leaving.
But this morning it is still at 07.05 WIB. It even seemed to be in the morning fog. Drizzling rain. And there is no agenda or follow the activities of other parties. Why refuse breakfast at home? Not even wanting to coffee. Really, not usually.
“You meet someone at the hotel,” call Timo then as if to understand with the concussion of his wife.
“Morning like this? See who?”
“Company guest.”
“Maybe haven't woken them. Moreover, rain like this,”
“Already promised.”
“Do not want to copy first?” verina asked suppressing her astonishment.
Timo. Step down from the second floor of the pavilion.
Verina followed down the stairs. He closed his mouth after breathing out. It is not he who hustles guessing and harbors nothing prejudices. But is not the attitude and behavior of Bang Timo that provokes conjecture and raises prejudice?
Verina kissed her husband's hand. He then looked at the silver double cabin car leaving the yard. Disappear on the side of the fence gate.
Verina went back into the room. She did not want to let go of her husband with prejudice. Unexpected. As usual, he let go with complete prayer and trust. That her husband will work as a manager in a palm oil industry company. Working for the future of the family. That he wouldn't be anything. Not doing anything that betrays the wife's trust. That he will return home later in the afternoon with a healthy nothing less.
Verina took the broom. Clean the upper room. On the top floor of the pavilion they occupied there was a bedroom, toilet, living room with a set of Jepara teak chairs.
Not half an hour later, Verina moved into the mansion. There is a door at the back that connects with the pavilion. No need to go outside the front door.
There's already a Tin in the kitchen. Washing dishes. There are no living stoves. “What can I help Mbak?” ask Verina.
“Bikinkan drinks for Father. The hot water is ripe.”
“For mom?”
“Sounds not to have woken up.”
Verina already knew her father-in-law's morning drink. Make warm milk tea with a large glass. Complete with white porcelain cap. He took her to the middle room.
Papa's sitting at the middle table. Alone while reading the newspaper. “This Pa the drink,” says Verina finished putting the drink glass.
Papa didn't take his eyes off the newspaper. “Iya,” said short.
Verina went back to the kitchen. He passed by Mama. Maybe just woke up. Verina nodded her head in greeting good morning..
“Say sakiiit,” says Mama-in-law with curvy lips.
“Udah fine, Ma.”
“But..”.
“Talking Timo to you?” ask Mama with a gloomy look.
“What by the way, Ma?”
“You guys.”
Verina did not understand the words of her in-laws that were not yet clear. “You guys. What's the matter, Ma?”
“You wait for ja. Timo must have talked about that!”
“What's the matter, Ma?” tanyanya Verina slightly raised intonation because Mama kept going. He was more astonished by his attitude. Speak but not clearly meaning.
Her in-laws did not answer and left her without saying anything.
Verina was glued upright. What does Bang Timo want to say? If anyone wants to talk about why he just died he was in a hurry to leave the house. Not even want to.
Before going to bed, Verina asked about what she would talk about Timo to her, as asked by her mother during the day. But Timo claimed there was none.
“Said Mama, Brother wants to talk to me. About what?”
Timo shook his head. “Nothing,” said.
Verina certainly believes in her husband more. And Timo says there's no. Maybe Mama made it up. After all, if Bang Timo wants to talk about why you should talk to Mama first. You can talk to him directly. All this time, their communication was smooth.
And Verina had forgotten about it, when a few days later Timo asked her to go up to the second floor. Verina was wondering why Bang Timo came home in the afternoon. During the day, he rarely went home. The distance of the house with the company office is about 30 km. Not yet had he asked, Bang Timo pushed him up the stairs immediately.
He sat in a mini round teak chair. Timo paced around before sitting down. It's like being restless or agitated. Then he put a chocolate map on the table. Stiffness on his face.
“Not usually Brother comes home by noon. What's up?” verina asked after Timo sat down.
Timo did not answer. It sounds like his breath. He bends his head. Both of his jaw bones seemed to be moving. But his mouth was closed.
“What's Bang? Any problems?”
Timo raised his eyes. Looking straight at Verina's eyes. But just a few seconds. Then Timo looked away as if he knew looking at his wife. He looked down while smothering his face with his palm.
“What's a Bang? Speak,” says Verina. He saw Timo differently this afternoon.
“You. You read the letter,” point to Timo with his chin on the envelope on the table. Then his head fell back.
“Letter? What mail?” Verina didn't reach the envelope. He's looking for Timo's eyes. A few seconds staring at each other. Timo dodged again. He did not dare look his wife in the eyes. He looked at the envelope.
“What letter?” verina asked as she reached out to the HVS-sized envelope.
Not glued. Can open easily. Verina immediately took out the paper inside. Just sheet. He immediately brought the paper closer to his eyes. Read it in your heart..
Verina's eyes were wide open. He shakes in disbelief. Verina rubbed her eyes. Not to mention his eyes are wrong. Looked closer with eyes wide open. No. gabe. He didn't look wrong. It's not misreading. The amount of writing with black citizens.
Verina did not continue reading. His face became pawky. His eyes were fixed on Bang Timo's head. “What is this letter, Bang?” ask her with a raucous voice.
“Read,” says Timo.
Verina could not read it. Misty eyes. Then it gets wet. Wet with tears. Between the roars of tears he asked again. “This is for me, Bang?”
Timo did not answer. Verina's crying roar left her at a loss for words. He lowered. His eyes were glued to the sheet of paper lying on the table. The paper his wife had just read. On the paper, it looks like water spills. The Tears of Verina.
