Starting My New Life As An Adventurer

Starting My New Life As An Adventurer
what happened at the village hall

"Bahhh... Huhhh..hahhh...." Eugene's heavy breathing as he tried to escape from the cornfield. He ran directionlessly, the height of the corn trees and the sheer weight of them made Eugene unaware that he was spinning round in the field.

There was nothing he could do alone. Every time he ran, he kept hearing the screams of his squads being killed one by one. There is no time to join. There is no time to think. He kept running and running far enough and it was pure luck that Eugene made it out of the labyrinth's cornfield.

Eugene thought that he was safe, yet he still heard the sounds of goblins chasing after him. With no choice Eugene ran again and hid in the forest not far from the fields.

....

Turning to the village hall, there is no soldier standing guard here at the moment. All of them have been deployed to the Northern border and as you know almost all of them have been killed.

However, there is no serious problem or uproar that requires a soldier.

The presence of the respected grandfather of everyone turned out to be quite effective in suppressing some residents who protested and complained.

"Mr Rondo, are we still here for a long time? Has our army not won against the goblins yet?" Some people gathered around Grandpa and complained.

"Please be patient with everyone. I haven't got any news from our Northern Army, tomorrow I'll send Kenzo to see how things are going. But for now, you better be patient." With a convincing face, Grandpa persuaded the citizens.

One by one the citizens accepted grandfather's statement and left, although they returned with not too satisfied faces, but at least all went safely.

....

Right now I'm a little away from the village hall. Take a walk to a place a little more comfortable than the village hall. I know Grandpa asked everyone not where. It's a bit of a violation of grandfather's rules anyway, but after days here I'm also a little sick of the atmosphere of the people and also the heat from the crowd. At least I need some fresh air.

Shortly after I walked there was a park not too far from the village hall, there was no one here. I took out my katana and practiced here spending a boring day.

Actually I could have just gathered and played with a kid my age, they got together and played around in front of the village hall. But somehow, I don't know, my age in this world is indeed about ten years but it should be added from my age from the previous world then now I am twenty-seven years old.

I've tried to get together and play with them, but when I get together with them it's like talking to a fool.I mean naturally, they're ten years old. Plus most of them are whiny. I better be alone in this garden and maybe practice a little bit from the book that Yuki-san left me.

After I finished warming up, I trained peacefully in this quiet park. I learned new movements while continuing to look at the contents of the book. Amidst my peaceful training, suddenly a man in luxurious clothes came to me.

"Wahh, northern sword technique." The man came with a cigarette that lit up his lips.

I caught a glimpse and continued to practice, but the man got closer to me and he sat on a swing beside me.

"Say the boy where did you learn that technique?" The man asked in a curious tone.

"My teacher, he's a royal soldier." I answered him while continuing to make my move.

"Well, oh yeah, by the way, nice move! How old are you, boy?" The man asked again.

"Ten years, and don't call me boy. My name is Hikaru." I repay.

"Haha, all right. Then my name is Deuce. Nice to meet you, Hikaru." The man apologized and extended his hand to shake hands with me.

"Well, nice to meet you too." I shook his hand.

I didn't know after a few sets of training, but after a while I finished my training. Me and the man were sitting on a swing next to each other.

"I've never seen you in Deuce's village hall, where you live?" I started the conversation and asked him.

"Oh I'm not a villager, I'm just taking a short break and smoking." He answered and burned his cigarette again.

"What did you come here for." I asked him.

"In short I have business here. But I don't think the preparations are finished yet so I can rest for a while." He answered casually.

"I wonder, why would a brat like you have learned the northern sword technique? don't you want to play with kids your age?"

"I don't like playing with them. And I'm doing this all because I want to be an adventurer." I answered.

"I don't think it's a bad offer." I answered.

"This is it... To adventure through various places need the name money. And under certain conditions adventurers will be very difficult to collect money. That's why you'd better take one or more slaves on your way."

"As long as you enjoy your adventures you can command them to work and take the money. If there's no work for them and you need money you can sell it." He said it with a relaxed face.

Hearing the man's words, my anger reached the top and I stood before him.

"You're a real asshole!

Thank you for your 'healthy' but I wouldn't do such a heinous thing!" I firmly answered.

"Cuhhh.... It turns out you don't understand either.... Whatever you say, boy, but that's how the world works." The man also stood up from his place.

"Boring, I think my break is over. I'm leaving, boy, and I hope you don't die being an adventurer." The man walked away leaving me alone in the park.

"What the fuck was that guy, I didn't expect anyone to be as bad as him!" With an annoyed face I kicked the stone that was near me.

"I think I'm just going back to the village hall right now. My mood is broken and I'm not excited to practice." With a sigh I walked back to the village hall.

Along the way I kept thinking about the man's words, how cruel what he said but I still didn't understand a few things.

"But if he did as he said, it wouldn't be dangerous. I mean, can't those slaves rebel?" I asked myself a question.

Without me noticing the sound of irises being heard and he answered from my head.

"Jawab, there is a way to prevent slaves from rebelling. The master can make a blood contract with the slave and in such a way the slave will not be able to kill the master. Even in any way."

"By any means what if the slave kills his master then the slave will also die?" I asked the iris.

"Unfortunately, the system is not like that, the bondage contract prevents the slave from killing his master. Even if it's just intention."

"When the slave takes a grudge against his master, at once the master will realize it from the bondage contract they both agreed to.  And when that happens, then the master of the slave can choose three options."

"Delete all his memories and make the boy empty like he has no emotions. Removing the grudge held by the slave and making the slave no longer have a grudge against him. Or the latter just directly killed him."

"It is necessary to know that if one approves the blood contract of slavery and becomes a slave then the master has absolute power to control the whole body of the slave. Even until they've engineered their memories. That is why the blood contract of slavery is almost impossible to break by the slave."

"But why would anyone want to be a slave, isn't that the same thing as dying?" I asked the iris again

"A person does not accept himself to be a slave. Usually it's a consequence of their other agreements."

"For example, at first you owe someone with your life as collateral, then when you can not pay it off then your life is taken by the debtor. That's when you became a child. Some other occurrences like betting, scams and many other things can also make a person a slave. The truth is that the world is cruel."

After hearing all the explanations of the iris, I arrived at the village hall. The sky had turned dark and the village staff was currently distributing food to all of us.

As the food was being distributed, a resident shouted to the entire village hall from outside.

"Hey look at everything! Someone is coming! Look at that many torch lights!" The man pointed at the line of torch light that was still far away from the village hall.

Other residents flocked out and saw rows of torchlight. Grandfather and the other village staff also came and saw.

"What is our Northern Army? I can't believe this many survived, thank God." For a moment grandfather felt grateful to see that line of torches.

As the torch line drew nearer, the citizens began to cheer in thought at their victory. The closer the light comes. Until they saw the faces holding the torch.

The bodies were small and green in color, some of them were holding torches and they were running like crazy. A large horde of goblins ran right towards the line of citizens who greeted them.

Jolted, The faces of the people who were originally cheering happily turned into panic, within seconds everyone ran over. Escape from the horde of goblins that almost reached the village hall.
