THE TRUTH MANSION'S

THE TRUTH MANSION'S
Chapter 11's

Do-Kyeong galloped near the crossbar and leaned out as if to jump, then waved his hand. His long arms formed a large, rainbow-like arch under the dark sky. Then, he made a strange gesture several times, his hand pushing the air, as if saying, Go. He leaned against the cross, then moved his hand. He watched for a moment, then moved his hand once more. After doing all of that a few times, Do-Kyeong finally turns towards the corridor where Jin-kyeong is crouching. Do-Kyeong starts humming softly, completely unaware of her brother crouching at the end of the corridor. Do-Kyeong's rough, raspy voice is simply no match for the carefree, fast-paced song she sings. The voice sounded so clumsy in Jin-kyeong's ears that her nose tingled. Can't take it anymore, Jin-kyeong snorted. And the humming in the corridor suddenly stopped

            “Nuna??”

            “Who was it?”

            Do-Kyeong did not answer

Jin-kyeong asks once again, “Women from Town?”

            Do-Kyeong still did not answer.

            “Cantics.”

“You saw it?” Do-Kyeong asks back.

Sure oes. Women who always come to a place feared by other Town residents. A woman who comes to see you often. The woman who waits until your shadow is completely gone. The woman who made you hum so pitifully. Such a woman could not possibly not be beautiful.

Nuna is a Call by Man for an older woman; Big Brother.

            “Ya,” says Jin-kyeong.

Jin-kyeong is reminded of the shadow that ran across the front yard. His body shape is small. I swung her hair while she ran. Slow step sounds. Her face was in her mind. In the past, Do-Kyeong was seriously injured by an iron pole at a construction site. He said he had bought disinfectants and bandages at the grocery store, but the bandages wrapped around his arm tightly looked strange. Jin-kyeong asks who helped to bandage his wound, and Do-Kyeong replies stuttering that it was Grandma Konnim who helped him.

The next day, when Jin-kyeong went to see Grandma Konnim to thank him, Grandma Konnim asked in surprise, “Do-Kyeong got hurt?”

At that moment Jin-kyeong remembered the woman.

Do-Kyeong reaches out to Jin-kyeong. “Do not worry, Nuna.”

Jin-kyeong welcomes Do-Kyeong's hand and stands up. “Call him. Wandering the streets like this...

Even if he didn't say anything, it must have been scary.”

Do-Kyeong turns the doorknob and embraces Jin-kyeong's shoulder. “Thank you, Nuna.”

Jin-kyeong turns back towards the front yard, where the shadow had already disappeared.

The brothers closed the push door in a large room, which served as a sitting room as well as a bedroom, and lay side by side. Actually, there was one more smaller room, but ever since they unpacked their belongings in the Mansion, they had already slept together in this large room. The older siblings do not usually sleep in the room, but it is not important to Jin-kyeong and Do-Kyeong. Spooky splotches of rainwater over the years filled the ceiling.

Everyone is free to occupy empty units, so, so, there is no reason for anyone to choose a unit on the top floor of a building without an elevator that is very hot in summer and very cold in winter. However, as if his life is not hard enough, Jin-kyeong chooses the last unit on the seventh floor, the top floor. They can survive the winter. They were cold because they did not have a heater, but at least the room was not dry, so there was no condensation. The problem is summer. Rain is leaking from the ceiling.
