In their second summer at the Saha Mansion, it rains every day endlessly until Grandma Konnim's garden is submerged. The water began to flow from one corner of the large room on the side of the veranda then slowly the entire wall got wet. Rainwater seeped from various corners of the ceiling, then began to drip-netes. When that long monsoon season ended, the fungus began to grow following the water trail on the ceiling. Do-kyeong is frightened and proposes that they move units. However, for some reason, Jin-kyeong refuses.
“We've lived here a year. If moving constantly..”.
They removed all the wallpaper, dried the walls, and carefully cleaned the fungus on the ceiling with bleach dissolved into the water. They then coat the walls and ceiling with watertight paint. However, when it rains, water spots are again visible on the walls and ceiling. Once the water spots appear, if it rains just a little, the ceiling must be immediately wet. Rainwater flows back in the footsteps of the old water, forming a multi-layered pattern. When it rains, the ceiling will get wet, and when the weather is clear, the ceiling will dry out a little. That's what happens over and over again. Jin-kyeong and Do-kyeong lie side by side, stare at the ceiling, and count the number of water-spotted circles there. Although Do-kyeong says she doesn't understand why her brother insisted on living in a leaky house, she never forced Jin-kyeong to move and never said she wanted to move alone to another unit.
The moonlight shone through the open window. Jin-kyeong observes the shadow of the patio cross reflected off the ceiling while the shadow moves to the right, like clockwork. He recalled the day he received treatment from Su for frostbite.
“Nuna,” call Do-kyeong.
However Jin-kyeong doesn't answer, as he doesn't want Do-kyeong to know he can't sleep.
“Who exactly are we? We're not natives, nor are we Towns. So, who are we? All this time we have lived our lives diligently and earnestly, but what changes will happen? Who knows? Who... who will... forgive me?”
Do-kyeong takes a deep breath and exhales. Then he lay on his back and continued, “I also want to be a Town.” Citizen
Citizens Town. Citizens. Then, a month later, Do-kyeong and Su move to unit number 714.
Jin-kyeong can't sleep all night, and can only fall asleep at dawn. Sounds as smooth and as light as dust settled in his dream. The sounds sounded like the sound of a television slur in the sitting room on a weekend morning. That's why Jin-kyeong thinks he's dreaming.
“Hei! Stopit! Stop!”
That's the old man overseeing the building. Jin-kyeong gasps up. He opened the front door, stepped into the corridor, and looked down. Two police buses are parked in the parking lot that has always been empty. Konnim's grandmother, who always picked lettuce, cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes early in the morning, was observing the activity from beside her garden, cement. tara, the building supervisor, helped the bus parked by patting the back of the vehicle.
One-third of the entire unit in the Saha Mansion was still empty. At first, the units that are still empty can be occupied by anyone. Later, a family occupied several units, moving from one unit to another, which eventually fouled the Mansion. Town residents and L2s often hide in the Saha Mansion, and mischievous schoolchildren often sneak in without the knowledge of adults. Therefore, it is difficult to know which units are empty. Eventually, the occupants decided to lock each door. The keys to each empty unit are stored in a closet in the building's supervisory office, and the keys to the cabinets are held by resident representatives.
