“Fatty two million dollars!” Someone bids for the first time.
“Fifty-three million dollars!” A woman's voice followed a few seconds later.
“Fifty-three million dollars, for women in green dress! Next, who will bid even higher?!” The auctioneer or the man's host displayed his bright smile.
“Sixty million dollars!” I was surprised when Axel spoke to offer the pink star diamond.
All eyes seemed to turn their eyes on us. With the tail of my eyes I could see their gazes as if implying a lot of things. God, why is this making me uncomfortable? How can Axel Campbell offer the diamond at a price that is not playful?
“I know you like it, Honey,” whispered Axel in my ear with his elegant style. In that instant I turned my face to him questioningly.
“No, no! I don't agree if you're throwing your money away just for a piece of jewelry, Axel!” my protest was with a voice like a whisper.
“You rest easy, what will happen later. Stay on the audience, Honey.” Axel said casually with his eyes straight ahead.
“Fantastic! Sixty million dollars has been bid by a mysterious man next to a woman in a white dress!” the man who hosted the show seemed enthusiastic about introducing Axel Campbell in public.
“Does anyone dare to bid even higher? If not, I will count one to three from now,” continued the auctionneer.
“Sixty-five million dollars!” A loud baritone voice rang out that very second, making us instantly turn our eyes to the figure of the man offering a high price.
I don't know why it felt like a familiar voice I heard, like the voice of someone I knew. But maybe?
“Great once sixty-five million dollars was bid by a dark ash boxedo guy on my right end!” The host pointed at a man who was standing just a short distance behind me.
Reflexively many people in this room looked at the mysterious man. No exception to myself, and at that moment I felt my heart beating faster, when I saw the figure of the black masked man. The man seemed to know her, even though part of her face was covered with a mask. Not only the voice, but the posture and the hairstyle are similar to someone I know. My gaze turned to the woman in black dress who was standing right by his side. I was stuck that second too. Oh, my God, my God! Could it be them??
Unable to master the situation, I was aghast as the pair of sharp eyes from behind the black mask looked at me. In that instant I immediately hurriedly threw away a face dodging from the look in his eyes.
“Why? Have you seen anyone, Angelina?” Axel asked still with his relaxed attitude and inclined to be flat, yet I could still see a faint smile from his lips.
I shook my head nervously and quickly replied, “Ah, no.”
“Who dares to bid even higher?” The auctioneer is back.
“Sixty eight dollars!” Axel again surprised me.
“Seventy-two dollars!” The baritone voice returned the next second.
“Wow! Seventy two dollars!! Amazing numbers for The pink star!!” The host cheered enthusiastically.
“This is crazy! Who's that guy?”
“How can someone offer such a high price just for a jewelry?”
“Hey, this is a rare diamond! Of course the man is not a man from the ordinary.”
“The couple must be so lucky to have such a man! Jeez I'm so envious!”
The words piece by piece of conversation some of the people in the room were clearly heard by me. I could only stand up with an increasingly nervous feeling. However, the nervousness dissipated as a hand wrapped around my hip in his attentive manner.
“Rilex, Honey. You are with me,” said the man who is none other than my husband while displaying his soothing smile.
“If no one dares to bid again, then this pink star auction I will start closing with a count-“
“Eighty million dollars!!” Not yet had the auctioneer or MC to continue his speech, the baritone voice I knew was reaffirming.
The auction atmosphere was quite boisterous after the man again offered a high price of eighty million dollars for the pink star.
“Who is that black masked man?? Mysterious, it is clear if the man does not want to lose with the man who offers a high price before.” Someone I don't know commented.
“Excellent! Once again the same man offers a top price of eighty million dollars for The pink star!” the auctioneer said excitedly.
“You want me to offer you a much higher price than the man did, Honey?” Axel whispered fondly in my ear that very second.
“No, no. I don't want to, Axel.” I replied firmly with a slightly begging look.
“Alright, if that's what you want, Honey.” Once again Axel gave me a smile full of meaning.
Oh, my God, what's the matter? What does all this mean?
“One, two, three! The pink star has officially sold for eighty million dollars!!” the auctineer closes the auction of rare diamonds of the pink star.
Applause was heard afterwards. Instead of feeling upset or offended because the rare diamond was not bought by him, but I actually saw Axel Campbell's expression look happy. Totally inversely proportional to what I had thought earlier in my mind.
“For the honorable Lord who has offered 'The pink star' for eighty million dollars, please take the stage. Rare diamond or named The pink star has officially become yours.” The MC of the show said.
The deg!
Somehow my heart skipped a beat when I saw the figure began to walk with his steady steps. Until the moment his steps passed me, I felt even more nervous. Not only that, my heart seemed to want to jump out when the male figure from behind the black mask suddenly turned to me as he walked past me. Yeah, God! Seeing her figure in such a close distance like this I was even more certain that it was her. That man, the man I've been avoiding the most for about four years. My ex-husband and biological father to my son Andrew Campbell, Henry Bastian Campbell.
