Burying Our Story

The doctor who examined Jessica was done with her job. He then invited the two girls' parents to speak in his room.

"Patients seem to lose their short-term memory temporarily. So there may be an event or a few that occur before the accident that is very shocking or painful for the patient. So subconsciously his subconscious tried to erase the memory was triggered by a hard impact on his head," explained the doctor at length to mama and papa Jessica.

The two parents looked at each other and nodded. They know what happened before the accident. Means Jessica can't accept all Kaivan's words before the accident, so that's the memory she's trying to forget now.

"And this short-term memory loss may not last forever, father and mother. Maybe someday it will come back again. So we still have to monitor patients regularly," added the doctor again.

"Oooh so, doc.... But this memory loss won't result in our daughter's physical recovery, will it?" ask mom Jessica.

Mama Jessica then changed hands.

They came out of the doctor's office treating Jessica.

"We have to tell Kaivan what the doctor said. He should not bring up his words before the accident to Jessica. Fear our child will become hysterical and heal longer" said Pa Kaivan to his wife.

"Yes right pa.... We'll call Kaivan and talk to him" said Jessica's mother.

Kaivan silently listened to the explanation from mom and dad Jessica. Whatever they had heard from the doctor had been told to him. Many thoughts raged in his head. He finally made his decision.

"Well, om and aunt..... I promised myself not to leave Jessica to face all this."

"Especially it turns out that he is now losing memory of what happened before the accident. I promise I won't bring up that problem again. And I also promise I won't leave Jessica again" Kaivan said solemnly.

He has already made his resolve. After coming home from this hospital he will talk to Ayana and hope that the girl will understand her condition. Then she also had to talk to her parents that the engagement between her and Ayana could not continue because she had promised not to leave Jessica. "If so, I say back home first om and aunt, later tonight I will return to take care of Jessica," said Kaivan as he rose from his seat. She alternately kissed mom and dad Jessica's hand before heading home.

While walking into the parking lot, his mind was full of the words he was going to say to Ayana. His heart ached again imagining the girl's reaction later. But he had no other choice.

Saturday and Sunday have no classes. So Ayana just stayed in her room. From the morning the girl felt a sense of unease in her heart. Still imagined last night the attitude of Kaivan who did not care about him. Even hurrying to go to the hospital again.

I heard the door to his room being slowly pushed. Rushing he walked over and opened it, finding Kaivan standing in front of him.

"I can come in? We have to talk" Kaivan said, staring fixedly at Ayana's eyes.

"Yeah... Boleehh.., "sahut Ayana was nervous while taking a few steps back letting Kaivan walk into her room.

Kaivan sat on the bedside and patted the mattress on his right as a signal for Ayana to sit there. Ayana complied and sat in silence.

"I talked to Jessica about my decision to break up with her because we're engaged and getting married. But it turned out that her reaction was completely unexpected, she was very hysterical and did not accept it all. Suddenly he ran away from me and crossed the road so that there was an accident.." explained Kaivan softly with a voice full of regret.

"I didn't expect any of that to happen..... I was completely shocked when I saw his body lying covered in blood on the street...." Kaivan began to sob and covered his face with both palms.

Both of his shoulders went up and down withstanding his sobbing. Ayana could only be silent, not knowing what to do.

"It turns out that as a result of the accident, Jessi's short-term memory was lost, so she had absolutely no recollection of what we had fought about earlier. All he remembers is that I'm still his girlfriend and our relationship is good. So Jessica's parents begged me to stay normal without ever bringing up those words again. And the worst thing is that Jessi's two legs will be paralyzed.." back sobbing Kaivan sounds clear.

"I promised mom and dad Jessica that I wouldn't leave her.... Keep her company....."

"The meaning of our engagement must also be canceled...."

Like a bolt of lightning in broad daylight, Ayana was shocked to hear the last sentence coming out of Kaivan's mouth. Although spoken slowly but the effect hit right in his heart. Gave a very deep pain in his chest.

Ayana doesn't know what to do. He just kept quiet. His eyes were clear but empty. Inside his mind flashed memories of what they did a week ago. All those sweet memories.....

Kaivan hugged her, held her tight. But his body froze, losing its taste. He did not return the hug at all. His hands bent in front of his chest and then reflexes pushed Kaivan's body away.

"Go away.... Jessica deserves you better.... I was wrong to take you from him...."

"Please leave me.... I want to be alone." she turned away from Kaivan, holding back her sobs.

A few moments quiet. Then Kaivan stood up and walked towards the door. Soon the door shut again.
