Levin loves Brooke.
I added that excuse as a support in my decision to take Levin on my expedition.
I don't mean to take advantage of her loving someone, I just want her to have a good reason to come with me. He doesn't need money, so he needs a boost as strong as money.
The impulse is me.
I need Levin's experience and instinct in killing. He'll be the protector of my group. So far, I've assigned specific tasks to the other three members. Haley will be the front row guide and protector, Darshan will handle the treatment and Fanita will be tasked with hunting and supervising around with her archery skills. Levin will protect the group in the back row.
“I want you to come with me to the north. We're going through Sebenius Forest.”
Levin's hand that was still touching my face was shaking. His face changed again. It looks very cold and serious. Then he lowered his hand and grabbed the collar of my clothes.
“You want to start a war?” levin's heavy voice sounded so sinister in my ears.
“I didn't mean to,” my voice choked as Levin further strengthened his grip. If I can't explain my purpose well, my feet probably won't step on the ground anymore.
“War can happen again if anyone sets foot into the Kingdom of Kirkuz in addition to a diplomatic envoy.”
“But I have to find someone in the north.”
“Who?”
“Gordon Fichser,” I grabbed Levin's hand and tried to loosen his grip. “We need a change in this Kingdom.”
“Change? You think a hit man cares about the fate of this Kingdom?”
“Ya,” my shout. “You care. Seeing your response just now I realize you care so much.”
I didn't expect much from him. I don't care if Levin isn't the one who loves where he lives or he could say ‘what is my business so bother thinking about the peace of this kingdom?’. But he pulled my collar. The look in his eyes changed, his expression also changed even I shuddered when he looked at him. He seems to care more about the south than I do. He reminded me of my main goal of saving Grace and the rest of the people behind me. I feel bad because I look like a caring person when I have other intentions.
“Alright, let's just say I care, Levin's” is pulling my collar and my legs are starting to lift off the ground. “Shaeviro is also looking for the man,” Levin is looking at me sharply. “What's your reason for looking for it?”
“Only he can replace Shaeviro's position in the Kingdom.”
“Where did your crazy mind come from?” Levin then threw me to the ground and turned away from me. I took a deep breath while looking at Levin's back and his clenched hands.
“You know how dangerous Sebenius Forest is?” ask Levin. “Even Shaeviro sends his men regularly to try to penetrate that forest.”
“Shaeviro plans to Kingdom of Kirkuz?” I ask you to not believe. “What is your information correct?”
Levin did not answer.
“That cunning old man,” pissed me off. “He must not find Gordon first.”
I stood up without help.
I picked up a piece of paper I had hidden in my pocket. I walked up to Levin no matter how he looked at me right now.
“What did Shaeviro give me as payment for stalking my house and trying to kill my brother? I'll give you a better offer.”
Levin kept his mouth shut.
That note was the last plan I prepared if Levin seemed to be unable to be persuaded by words.
I gave the note to Levin without a doubt because I was sure he didn't like Shaeviro too much, the master who gave the order to him. Therefore, he leaked such important information to me when I mentioned Gordon's name. For a moment, Levin hesitated to open the paper and seemed to want to throw it away. Spontaneously, I grabbed Levin's hand and looked at him with the most honest eyes. Finally he read the note that Brooke wrote that became the most valuable relic for me. Without that record, I wouldn't have realized my new life could be taken at any time.
I intend to destroy the root of all problems.
“Don't ask how I know,” I said on the sidelines waiting for Levin to read the entire contents of the paper. “I can't remember it.”
Levin folded the paper and put it in his pocket asking, “Nobody knows he is alive or dead.”
“She's alive.”
“You have proof?”
“No,” replied. “But your information just now is one proof. Shaeviro must have felt insecure and started looking for Gordon again.”
“I still disagree,” Levin sounds assertive. “You can die.”
“No one can be sure when I will die. You're gonna kill me too, right?”
I can't ask why Levin obeyed the order to kill me. I've spent my chance to ask.
“You won't kill me just because I know your identity. You must have done it from the beginning we met again after I lost my memory. Whatever your plan, from the beginning you were my god of death. So, I'm not afraid of death.”
“Can't you listen to me this time?”
“No,” my firm. “But what you said I would do now. I will live and choose to live. Life that is not just breathing but living to fight for something.”
“Brooke,” Levin called my name. “I don't care about your idealism. Think of wars that can also happen.”
“Shaeviro will start the war back sooner or later,” I told him my prediction. “Before that happens, Prince Carlo must ascend the throne and Gordon must succeed Shaeviro. No one could make the old man just give up his post. My father must have supported that from when we found Gordon.”
The Royal Family had long lost its dignity. It's not a secret anymore. They were very chaotic in everything including by still letting such an evil person be on a high position for so many years.
“How can I be sure of you?”
Levin's dark blue eyes looked at me sadly. I remember when Levin smiled sincerely at Brooke in my dreams. He must have been devastated when Brooke chose to save Lucas and put his own life aside.
I'm not the Brooke he knows. I wouldn't bet that bad way.
“You must side with me first,” I take out a dagger that I tied around my waist. “Do not work for Shaeviro again.”
Levin looked at the dagger in my hand.
“Party to me fully and time will give you proof compared to what I said today.” I pulled Levin's hand slowly and put the dagger into his hand. “There are two ways to signal that you are making someone your right hand. The first, gave him a new name and the second gave him a weapon. I chose the second way.”
I took out another dagger that was exactly the same as the one I gave Levin just now.
“Close with me. I'll risk my life for you instead.”
