James opened his eyes, "Where am I?"
He looks around. He was at the funeral of an old man. But he doesn't know why he's here.
The last thing he remembers is his sadness at watching Manchester United's last Premier League game on TV. He died of a heart attack from losing his entire fortune bet. His favorite club, Manchester United, finished 2021/22 in 6th place, and has been fasting for the title for years which last won the Europa League in 2017.
"He looked around", a voice ripped him from his depression. He looked around and his eyes were on all those who were grieving. But before he could ask what happened, a doctor who was walking with a man called him.
"Let me check" said the doctor. Although James was confused as to what was going on and why he fell asleep at this funeral.
The doctor approached James and examined him. "The blood pressure was flowing into his brain he was a bit in shock then fainted, but other than that it was fine" the doctor said.
'Wait, blood pressure? passed out? ', James wanted to ask but before he had time the doctor spoke, "Then I will leave you with him, Mr. David", and leave immediately.
James finally focused on Mr. David, as soon as the doctor called him. He was a middle-aged man probably in his forties. His hair was almost gray and his serious-looking face was shaved clean. He was tall and dressed properly as if he was going to attend a meeting. White people from Europe.
"James, I'm David May, your father's lawyer" he said briefly.
“But my father has died”, replied James.
"So you remember" David finally changed his expression, "Yes, your father died yesterday because of the calamity he was in. After hearing the news you were unconscious..."
The calm David broke out and he had a mix of surprise and worry on his face.
"Are you okay?", he asked James in a very gentle tone, "You were at home playing PlayStation before you fainted, can you remember?"
"What are you talking about?" James asked in a slightly annoyed voice. He began to get angry at all the nonsense the lawyer was talking about.
"All right, let your sister explain here, and then we'll talk again" James said before standing up and leaving quickly.
"But I don't have a sister either." James wanted to scream but he held him back because seeing would not politely shout at the funeral ceremony.
Finally alone, even outside, he stood up and looked out the window. It was morning but the sun was not visible. Even with all the questions inside him, he could not help but realize that it was definitely not a hospital in Manchester. Observing the city, he found it was Sydney. He had been to Sydney before during a work visit. She is a tourism agency worker, nothing interesting but she still has to travel abroad a lot. According to him, it is an advantage rather than a burden, but many colleagues disagree.
He opened the window only for the cold wind to enter. He hurriedly closed the window.
"Why Sydney is so cold, it shouldn't be this cold in the middle of the year." He said to himself. It's only May and it's a long time before winter.
Without doing anything, he returned to his room. He was looking for something to read at the table by his bedside when his gaze fell on the calendar. On the calendar, the date is December 27, 2004.
Before he could understand it, he felt a splitting headache and fell unconscious again.
