Chapter 31 - Cook

The second day of the independence race began.

The competition to be held today is cooking, drawing, and the last exhibition of cubit works from plastic waste. It seems like today will not be as lively as yesterday, given the lomba like that. The cooking competition will start from 8:30 to 10:45, the second drawing competition at 13:00 to 14:00, and the last exhibition of cubit works at 13:30 to 15:00.

A lot of free time and maybe some students take advantage of that time to relax in class.

I gave him a gas can. Portable gas stove is one of the cookware prepared by the race committee, but they only prepare 1 can of gas for each class. I got a tip from Nabila that last night they were cooking at Tia's house. To boost her confidence, Tia wanted to try cooking a meal today, so that if there were any mistakes or unexpected things she could cover it up.

Last night, all students/i get a notice that the cooking competition hours typical of regional food exchanged for a drawing competition. So that the first cooking after Friday prayer, becomes the morning hours until before Friday prayer.

My guess is the committee wants the judges to try the food before Friday and lunch. While if you wait from after the Friday and wait again until 14:00 will make the jury starve. Even though it can be overcome with a little lunch, but if they eat it seems to be full first before being able to try more than 20 foods from each class.

Other estimates are quite simple and maybe my desire is also if I am the judge is to make the cuisine into a side dish for lunch. It makes more sense, when else try to taste good cuisine for free.

This cooking competition is making one of the regional cuisines in Indonesia. Many menu choices certainly make the participants confused about what to cook, the worry of making the same cuisine with other participants must be thought of by the participants, although in fact there is no written cuisine should be different.

So far, only 2 classes that I know typical regional food. First my class will cook a typical Soto Lamongan and second class Acha that will cook Latin Sweet Spicy Acid. The cuisine is typical of Riau area, where I lived during Junior High School. I don't know why he chose the dish, but last night he asked me to taste the dish later.

The cooking competition will be held in the Hall, half Hall correction, the other half will be used for the exhibition of Hasta Karya later in the afternoon. The spacious hall is also the reason for cooking, as well as the enclosed space also makes cooking safer.

A quarter of the hall's rooms are covered in cloth and other coverings, perhaps to hide the works of each class that will be displayed this afternoon.

There are 24 slots of cooking area, each class has been determined by the committee.

If the region is defined, there are 4 dividers with initial letters, then each letter has 6 lines with initials numbers. My class got D6 territory, a lower-right area.

Soon Nabila and I followed Tia's instructions to prepare all her needs.

During the month of school, Ikhsan knew that I knew Acha, rather my mother told him. At that time Ikhsan was surprised that I and Acha were friends when I was a child, then I promised to introduce them when the time was right. But until now the right time has not come, Ikhsan seems to have to be patient. There are some facts to Ikhsan that I deliberately hide like he is the same age as us and once shopped with him. I want to look back on what his reaction would have been like if he had known that.

Based on the map of the cooking location of each class that I got from Tia, the location of the Ikhsan class was at C5, and nearby C4 was the Acha class. After Ikhsan left, the C4 location started to be prepared by Acha's friends. But he hasn't been seen, I want to go there and give him the gas can he asked for, but I have to be patient until he arrives.

I re-examined all of Tia's preparations to fulfill my activities while waiting for Acha to arrive.

Finally Acha arrived, thankfully his friends were no longer there.

“ok well, I want to see another class cook and after that return to class”

“ok Ndi” replied Tia without looking at me, she was busy preparing some condiments.

Almost all class representatives are already in the region, while there are some students/i who help representatives prepare various cooking needs.

If I give Acha a can of gas directly, people will wonder why an Acha left it with me? Why not his classmate?

From the cooking area of my class, I saw Icha, the representative of class X Ips A and then beside him there was Acha representative of class XI Ipa A and a friend at once.

An idea came to mind, before that I had to put 2 cans of gas into black plastic. Then walk towards them and stop in front of class X Ips A.
