Arrive in the town of Barren Desert

Five days have passed since Lewis met Jack. It did not feel that the journey passed by the two of them would soon be completed, with the arrival of them in the Barren Desert city.

From a distance Lewis could see a city with a sturdy wall fifteen meters high surrounding it.

"Bigg!!!" Jack raised his voice and spread out his wings before leaving to fly away from Lewis.

Lewis, who saw Jack go, made no attempt to chase the eagle, because Jack did not want to go into the city and chose to roam outside while waiting for Lewis to finish his business in the town of Barren Desert.

Arriving in front of the entrance gate guarded by several soldiers, Lewis immediately queued to get permission to enter from the guard post.

"Please show me your license plate!" Pinta is a soldier guarding the guard post with a lazy look on his face.

From inside the pocket Lewis took out an iron plate which he found the other day while scraping through the belongings of the victims from the two previous monsters.

Lewis then showed the plate he had brought to the guard, but it seemed that the guard did not care much and did not see the plate he was carrying, he said, it was as if the order from the guard earlier to show identification marks was just a formality.

"Put ten silver coins here and you can continue your journey inside!" Said the guard lazily and bored.

Ten silver coins and Lewis put them on the table before he entered the town of Barren Desert to find supplies and information.

Some hikers who saw the arrival of Lewis felt a little curious because they were wearing shabby and torn clothes.

Gaining the gazes of the other pedestrians, Lewis chose to ignore them and turn his gaze toward the city buildings that were still made of clay and wood.

This reminded Lewis of the ancient forms of civilization that he often studied, but the difference is that people in the Eternal world have magic power.

Lewis then visited a bar. The gaze of some adventurers instantly turned towards Lewis who looked like a vagrant.

"Please have a glass of beer and a serving of grilled mutton!" Pinta Lewis while looking at the menu board above.

A young lady in charge of serving as a waiter immediately gave Lewis a glass of beer first and prepared the roast that the man ordered.

When the food orders came, Lewis immediately ate the food and did not say a word, which made the waitress and two customers nearby became curious about Lewis.

"Hey, I've never seen you before in this town. Where are you from, are you a traveler?" Asked the maid with a cheerful look on her face while holding her head up to look at Lewis.

Asked by the exotic Middle Eastern woman, Lewis stopped eating and put the meat he was eating back on the plate.

"Sorry lady, you should understand the rules for not talking to people who are eating..." Reply Lewis by keeping his head down and hiding his face using a headscarf.

"Eh? I'm sorry I was just curious to see a newcomer. Then go ahead and I'm sorry to bother you!" Said the female servant while laughing awkwardly.

Hearing the servant's apology, Lewis simply cleared his throat and nodded slowly before continuing his meal.

"How, would you like to participate with me. The prizes offered are quite a lot and can make us both rich suddenly if we win!" Take a burly man customer to his friend.

The face of the burly man's friend instantly became anxious and it seemed that he was afraid to enter the race they were discussing.

"Even though the prize is so much, I don't want to go. All my life was lost when I entered the arena!" Reject the man before leaving his friend.

The burly man immediately chased his friend to persuade him to join the race with him and left the bar where he ate.

Lewis glanced at the burly man who was running after his friend. Hearing their chat earlier certainly made Lewis very interested, let alone this discuss about money.

The young man drank a beer and wiped his mouth. Lewis then placed a piece of gold coin on the table and thrust it to the servant who was standing in front.

"It's too much sir. Don't you have any smaller money?" Said the waiter when he saw Lewis paying with a piece of gold coin.

"It doesn't matter just take it, but can you explain a little bit about the race they said just now?" Reply Lewis while talking about the chat two customers earlier.

The waiter nodded and gave Lewis a piece of paper with an announcement about the race he was referring to earlier.

"The race they were referring to was actually one of the city's annual festivals. The reward itself is quite a lot in the form of five thousand gold coins, three healing poison and mana enhancer, as well as one class A weapon...."

"Although the prize is quite a lot, but only one final participant will be the winner. Because actually the race was as a form of offering to the Sun God...."

"The people of this city believe that, with them making a sacrifice, the Sun God will give them rain. You know that in this city alone water is the most precious thing?" Said the waiter explaining as much as possible about this race to Lewis.

The explanation given by the maid immediately made Lewis shake his head. He still did not expect people in this world still apply the offering ceremony by subverting the victim.

Whereas if by logic they can actually channel water from a river flow that is 25 kilometers away without having to perform a ceremony of some kind.

It could even be that they could easily obtain water using magic. But since this ceremony itself was a tradition that was believed by the people, it seemed impossible to eliminate it just like that.

'And they moved away and left the desert in search of green territory. Yeah, but it's none of my business. What's the point of meguruding this kind of thing...' Inner Lewis.

Satisfied with the information provided by the maid, Lewis put two more gold coins on the table for her before leaving.

The waiter was of course very happy to get three pieces of gold coins equal to his wages working for one month in the bar.

Seeing the dark day, Lewis decided to rent a room in an inn that was arguably not good enough at the price of one silver coin per night.

After entering Lewis's room, he sat on the side of the bed and removed his footwear. When Lewis flipped his shoes there was a lot of sand falling on the floor.

Lewis immediately cleaned his sand-filled shoes before laying on the bed and resting that night.
